I think mercury Rev develo0ed an issue with it. He did the cover of it for a planned parenthood record to raise money called 7 inches for planned parenthood but the video etc disappeared making me think they had only temporary use of the song?
It's a crying shame to have deleted this cover. Other than Matt Berninger or The National themselves, few if any artists now could do the magnificent Holes justice. When Mercury Rev dropped this song 25 years ago, I was literally stunned - there was nothing like it, and there never has been. Holes makes no sense, and it makes perfect sense, at the same time. It reaches down into your heart and keeps on going, for miles - and drags up deep, untapped emotions. Mercury Rev were geniuses with this, hope they allow another genius to see it through.
Time, all the long red lines That take control Of all the smoke like streams That flow into your dreams That big blue open sea That can't be crossed That can't be climbed Just born between Oh, the two white lines Distant gods and faded signs Of all those blinking lights (here it comes) You had to pick the one tonight Holes, dug by little moles Angry, jealous spies Got telephones for eyes Come to you as Friends All those endless ends That can't be tied Oh, they make me laugh And always make me Cry 'Til they drop like flies And sink like polished stones Of all the stones I throw How does, how does that old song go How does that old song go Bands, those funny little plans That never work quite right
@@johncrow5552 Indeed John, few could enhance it - Matt Berninger has. And it is simply a beautiful song. I find it hard to match anything like it. Jimmy Webb (Galveston, Wichita Linesman, MacArthur Park) is the only parallel I can draw to this masterpiece.
So sad to see this cover deleted from everywhere recently ;( What a masterpiece. Hope it's back to digital platforms soon.
I was shocked bc i just couldn’t find it, do you know why it got deleted?
@@SrPatataFrita1 no clue, unfortunately.
But it was still up there right before New Years.
Yeah wtf... This is just sad.
The original by Mercury Rev, which is fantastic, is always available!

“Here it comes”…glad to hear Matt is as excited about the upcoming drop as the listener is.
1 of the greatest songs ever written. Matt's version is absolutely magnificent.

Time, all the long red lines
That take control
Of all the smoke like streams
That flow into your dreams
That big blue open sea
That can't be crossed
That can't be climbed
Just born between
Oh, the two white lines
Distant gods and faded signs
Of all those blinking lights (here it comes)
You had to pick the one tonight
Holes, dug by little moles
Angry, jealous spies
Got telephones for eyes
Come to you as Friends
All those endless ends
That can't be tied
Oh, they make me laugh
And always make me Cry
'Til they drop like flies
And sink like polished stones
Of all the stones I throw
How does, how does that old song go
How does that old song go
Bands, those funny little plans
That never work quite right
