Thank you so much for covering this topic. I'm in my late 60s and have lost so much hair. It's very baby fine and thin. My hair loss began during menopause followed by hypothyroidism. My daughter is 39 and is going through early menopause with hypothyroidism too. She's losing so much it scares both of us. Most of our hair loss is on the top. I will definitely share your info with her. Thank you and always enjoy your videos 😊.
Please make sure you get a physical! My hair loss was due to iron deficiency. Your doctor needs to order labs for “ferritin” levels, not just iron levels. Ferritin is stored iron and some is stored in hair follicles . If levels fall below 50 (per my dermatologist) your body will pull reserves from hair follicles and your hair falls out. Iron supplements in addition to minoxidil has finally started to improve but it took several months to increase.
This video is so appreciated. I am 69 and have been suffering with hair loss for over a decade. Nothing I have tried has helped, so I have pretty much given up. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will try your suggestions.
My experience with Minoxdyl was good at first. I did get new hair growth but after 1 year I experienced a terrible rash. When you stop using it, your hair will all fall out. Beware! I now use rosemary oil. Doesn’t have the side effects.
I think that if you wear your hair pulled back regularly it can also cause hair loss. I've noticed this myself. I wear my hair like that practically all the time, either because it's hot or because I don't have time to style it. I noticed that when I manage to wear it down for a week or so, it's stronger. I also massage my scalp before bed whenever I remember. Just thought I'd put it out there since I've seen quite a few of your videos where you have it pulled back. Your hair is looking fabulous btw 🙂
I lost about 30% of my hair 10 years ago when I developed lichen planus and autoimmune disease fast forward I’ve been taking Hydrochloroquine oral meds since being diagnosed. I give myself a scalp massage, gentle on washing and keeping my scalp clean and don’t style my hair until it’s almost dry. Regular hair trims and keeping my hair no longer than my shoulders and not colouring it ha also helped.
I also have an auto immune disorder. I have often wondered how much of my hair loss is a tributable to midlife, hair loss, and how much of it is a tributable to the auto immune disorder.
Are you familiar with the Zuvi halo dryer? It does not heat your hair. Also, I use the ordinary hair serum and can tell when i stop using it. Thanks for this video.❤
I used all kinds of topical solutions and hair serums, but none of them made a difference. It wasn’t until I started the oral minoxidil that I started seeing results.
Been struggling with hair loss since major spine surgery seven years ago. Many of the treatments contain allergens for me. Been using Toppik, blending two colors; also have a couple of wigs on standby... just not ready to wear them yet.
I get it. Wearing a hair piece was a big step for me and took some “working up” to. The whole hair loss issue was really upsetting and embarrassing for me overall so the fake hair was just one more layer to it.
Hi, Valerie. Thank you for this valuable info. I didn't know you went to beauty school. My son in law just passed his state boards. Did a dermatologist prescribe your medicine? Thanks for the links; it's a gift from you to us.💕
I went through an online service provider. And I didn’t go to beauty school: “back in the day”, all that was required was the hours and the educational requirements could be completed by self-study. Congrats to your son in law!
Great video. It’s very informative. I have a lot of hair breakage. A single hair at a time. It’s always falling out. I know it’s not what you have been experiencing. I was wondering if you have come across any good shampoo and conditioner for hair breakage? Thank you.
The Olaplex No.3 treatment is THE BEST product for breakage. I would start there and see how much it helps before adding other treatment. Just my two cents!
Hi Valarie, what hair type (fine or coarse), texture(wavy/frizzy or straight) and porosity do you have? Could you please share the hair care and styling products as well as the other tools (a part from Dyson) you use (like de-tangling combs/brushes)? Regarding hair loss/regrowth, (if I may ask), in addition to Minoxidil, are you on HRT and what's your thoughts on the subject? Thank you.
I came off of HRT several years ago and opt for an OTC testosterone supplement now. My hair is curly and porous. I will do another video soon on how I style it!
Valerie, thx for this! How did you get the Minoxidil? Don’t see a link. Was it through Hers? I have been using the spray with good results but I’m wanting to switch to a pill. Thank you! ❤
I would add……I only wash my hair 2 x a week now. I do use olaplex3 once a week. I also use a hair mask ( love Unite) and minimize hot tools. I bought plastic rollers in all sizes. I use one of the larger sizes n the top of my hair. Leave them in for an hour or 2 after I wash and blow dry on low setting. I do use a curling iron on the bottom of my hair but never over 365*. I also use a leave in conditioner, a light mouse for volume and a heat protectant. Seems like a lot but I don’t do this every day. My hair is the healthiest and fullest it’s been in years.
So this is an interesting debate for me. My hairdresser said to only wash my hair twice a week. But the medical provider said to wash every other day and make sure to give the scalp a good massage to keep the follicle clear and clean. Hmmm…
@@midlifeposhclosetI can only speak to what works for me. I also follow “The Blowout Professor “ on UA-cam. I have dry skin and hair. Washing often strips my hair of natural oils.

Oh goodness - I am sorry to hear this but hopefully my experiences can point her in the right direction!

Would like to see a tutorial on the Dyson products
I love my Dyson , it actually sat under my bed unused for years , now I use it and my hair is so much better.
I love hearing this!

Oh, please tell me how you use Rosemary oil. Daily, weekly, how many times per day, etc.

Thank you. I pulled it back to give it a chance to grow back in without brushing and styling it all the time. It helped!

@ It does! I was a little leery about the pills, but I will try it! Wish I had known about it sooner - I’m 57 now and have lost quite a bit of hair 🥺
