My very first job i was 13 and it was mowing lawns for my landlord. I made 10 bucks every job and i saved up enough to buy a Sega Genesis. It was the first thing I ever bought with my own money.
I bought the Gamecube almost brand new. It was the first console I actually bought myself, and it was relatively cheap. However, I am not shelling out 400 quid for a PS5 or whatever...
Live hell, I still have my NES that I opened Christmas morning. Never sold, still works. My HS friend still has hers too, still plays SMB-3 with her kids on occasion. Interestingly, my wife doesn't like to play video games much, but SMB3? She'll play that.

I've been watching Falcon for a long time now. This video is the most open and honest and touching video I've ever watched. It made me realise that we're all connected and that there is hope in life.
I turned 40 this year and that's exactly how old I would've guessed Falcon was. He makes references right down the middle of the plate for my sensibility was how I came to that conclusion.
I’m also so old in fact that a few of your references (Supermarket Sweep in particular) made me feel weirdly nostalgic but at the same time… so freaking old.
I got the Game Room with my PC and ultrawide monitors and a few consoles on a very nice 55inch TCL 6 series mini LED. Currently turning another room into a full blown arcade. Hello Dragon's Lair I and II plus Space Ace. That being said, thank you Falcon for reminding me to appreciate what I have. Love this channel!!!
I accidentally started a war between me and my gaming friends. It has fizzled out over they years but they couldn't get over the fact that I got a better PC than all of them one time and everyone started racing to keep up/beat my set up. It was a bit moronic but it is what it is lol. In the U.K. there's now a business called arcade club, they aren't everywhere but they have multiple floors of old arcade machines and pinball and modern stuff. It's a good thing, you pay to get in and all the games are free to play.
There was an arcade in Salem, Oregon about 30 years ago where you paid $5 to get in, and all the games were rigged to be free, no quarters needed. You could just press a button to add credits and get as many lives/replays as you wanted. That was the first time I managed to beat the original Double Dragon game (took me about 20 lives). It was a good model (at least for the gamers), that I wish had been more prevalent when I was younger. There weren’t any coin free arcades where I lived, so I only got to try that experience when I was visiting my grandparents, (which was out of state and required either 16 hour car trip or a plane flight). 😢
With you all the way, born in ‘80 myself. Not flexing but I landed a partner twenty years ago who is a non competitive, casual gamer as well so it’s one thing that we actually agree on and enjoy together 😂
My backlog is massive and it's not really from a lack of free time. I have trouble just picking 1 game and playing it, especially all the way through. I also went crazy on steam sales for a few years so I have WAY too many now.
That's a real issue. Choice paralysis. After playing BG3 for 6 months last year, it took me 2 months to find another game to play and really enjoy again
Falcon, I'm just a little bit younger than you and been watching for a while. I related to everything you just said!! Thanks for putting it all in one spot!!
Dude you just put a huge smile on my face. I used to LOVE Supermarket Suite as a kid and haven’t thought of that show in years. I am going to go see it I can find some episodes to watch.
As a 55 yo gamer who remembers playing f'ing 1st-gen games like Avalanche and Tank in those old, dank caves of the early arcades, I can say that everything on this list is on point. Especially about having the financial means to play and do whatever but the time & mental energy needed to complete that dream is, um, hard to schedule-in. That yin-yang balance of adulthood we never saw as kids, well... yeah, that'll get ya
Nothing makes me more jealous than saving up for a nice gaming set up, to see one of my friends with a whole a** gaming room with posters and figurines and water-cooled massive towers for PC, while I cry in my 2070 super
Falcon, I'm 40 too and my first gaming console was the Atari 2600. Something about the late 80's to early 90's games did right. Especially the arcades! And I think we've become too dependent on saves. Then again, games are much longer than way back when.
I used to be jealous of people in games media. Then I understood how most game media outlets work (access journalism and the fear of losing your livelihood for giving your honest opinion.) And I realized playing games is thr fun part, not talking about them
08:55 You're 40? I read falcons' lifespan is about 10 years. The longest known lifespan of a peregrine falcon was 17 years. There's something fishy going on with this channel's bird host...

I'm 52 in Nov 2024, so I came from the era of the home Pong! system on the old black and white TVs to commodore 64 even the BBC PC's, I have seen the rise and fall of the arcade and yeah retro gaming is a great niche if that's your thing me personally I like the innovation of modern PC hardware and what games can be now and into the future, I move forward not looking backwards but that's just me! Oh, my backlog is now 1008 games since the start of the pandemic back in December 2019 I've 100% 5 of them I think, finished a heap just not 100% yet lol I calculated it'll take near 7-9 years to accomplish it 🤣
I always wanted a legit Twilight Zone pinball table ... until i saw the upkeep costs on top of buying one. That'll keep you runnin' VPinMame in a Windows 7 VM ... 😝

I don't care cos I've worked bloody hard, saved my money, avoided debt, raised a family, got divorced and remarried, and semi retired at 55. I'm good thanks🤣🤣
@@Holycurative9610 Play is an important part of staying healthy for humans (some animals too). This is our play. When folks use that line on me, I just smile and say "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional."" Play the way that makes you happy. That's the point.
I’m at that tender age when my friends from school are like, “My grandkid is starting kindergarten,” and I’m like, “Cool, I’m trying to get around to Phantom Liberty after I finish the last way of beating Fallout 4 and 100% Astro Bot.”

Having a backlog is awesome if you are patient and don't care about being current. Will save you a ton of money on software and hardware. All the DLCs are out and like 99% of the bugs are patched and the ones that aren't are known and have solid work arounds.
nothing matches the jelousy of seeing your friend can play a game that your PC cant run, the pain that I felt seeing my friend play gta san andreas was so real I can still feel it
don't worry these pc gamers will soon be jealous they can't play gta 6 on pc because Rockstar said no
@@GremoriaParadise Only if the game is any good.
They're releasing new Yakuza games faster than I can finish them
Always jealous when the other guy has a bigger ... TV 😅
I just picked up a ~50inch ROG Swift OLED from MicroCenter....size does matter
I'm 40 too, Falcon. I feel great, I game daily, and most importantly, we got to live through the NES era.
Live hell, I still have my NES that I opened Christmas morning. Never sold, still works. My HS friend still has hers too, still plays SMB-3 with her kids on occasion. Interestingly, my wife doesn't like to play video games much, but SMB3? She'll play that.
@@mikeriley1475 My wife still has her Famicon and Superfamicon. Albeit there were a bit different connections in Japan so we can't really use it. Both are in boxes with the only games she owned, being Final Fantasy VI and Dragon uest titles. But yes indeed, living through the NES era and being able to play systems before that like the Fairchild Channel F or Atari 2600 and then experiencing the growth of the industry from nerd culture to mainstream cool "nerd" culture.
I had an Acetronic at one point.
I had the NES, SNES and Sega Mega Drive back in the day.
The Gamecube was the first console I actually bought myself.
Ohhh hey Falcon! Can we ever get like a personal tour of you or Jakes gaming collection and set up. I bet you guys got some cool games and merch in your collection. Or maybe the Gameranx office stuff?
That would be cool to see!
Am I the only one who doesn’t care about having a crazy gamer setup? Gaming on my bed on my tv is the best
Nothing really beats that
I personally find all the RGB lighting to be to distracting. I'm perfectly content with a standard non-smart 40" 1080p TV. For me it's about gameplay and story, not so much hyper realistic graphics. Those crazy setups look cool, but it's just not for me.
@@DarkForce2024 Yes I agree with your comment even if I share opposite views. I like those kind of setups but I like your comment , it's different from people who hate on RGBs .
I personally love turning off RGB when needed and turn on when felt I like I want it.
yes they're distracting , can confirm. Every one has different tastes and I respect that ! Cool :))
@@DarkForce2024 I agree.
As I say VERY often, good graphics do not a good game make.
90s kid here. I was jealous of people who had a pinball machine in their homes. It’s something I still want but man are they expensive
It was that and a pool table for me. I got my pool table.
And the maintenance costs too 💀
A digital pinball machine might be an alternative. There's one with 10 remakes for about $500ish. Tactile response with buttons. And no maintenance lol.
@@PanikedReactions same but I saved up for like 3 years when I was 13 and got a pool table that could turn into a air hockey table
I wasn't allowed to have video games when I was a kid.
How did I end up obsessed?
I did number #3. Build a huge ass RPG which took around 10 years from concept to completion. Learned a lot and I'm really grateful for the experience. Helped me greatly in my professional life.
Game dev can be exhausting, but publishing is a whole other story. The game will get same fans, some haters, but you're also, and mostly, met with a lot of indifference on an oversated market. It's a psychologically very demanding experience. Publishing a game, even when it is just a hobby product and free of charge, is serious business.
Perhaps we'll one day see a top 10 list of game dev struggles?

I loved the age rant from big papa Falcon. As a fellow 42-year-old gamer from way back, I totally think we could hang and have a lot to talk about.
haha thanks! What are you playing through right now?
Addicted to watching every gameranx video.🔥
That bonus hit deep.😢 Nobody I know IRL likes video games...to the point that when i start talking about anything I'm playing I get an eye-roll and they walk away. Crippling.
My other half is and artist - showed them Hollow Knight - they were like, "Wow! I love that! ....Oh.... it's a game? That's a shame."😣 .. seriously.
That hurts😕 Try Hades maybe? Fantastic artwork and story
People forget that games are technically a type of art.
@@Teirmz I wish! If I even mention the word 'game' or anything gaming adjacent it's all the same. It's a juvenile/stupid/weird/boring thing that I do.

I turned 40 this year and that's exactly how old I would've guessed Falcon was. He makes references right down the middle of the plate for my sensibility was how I came to that conclusion.
Im jealous of falcon getting paid for playing games.
I'm not.
When gaming is your job, it's not really fun after a while.
That's why I disagree with the "do what you love and get paid for it" idea.
@@Diablo_Himself too much of anything is too much?
I remember the Pay One Price at the local arcade the first Saturday of the month. Had to take a 30 minute bus ride to get to it, but it was worth it.
I'm always pooping when a new vid gets uploaded.

Bless you, Falcon. 30+ here. You're secretly the best in the industry. Keep it up
Falcon, I'm 40 too and my first gaming console was the Atari 2600.
