My favorite Zep album. Why? Twice the amount of wonderfullness! My two favorite cuts are In My Time of Dying (my all time favorite Zeppelin song) and In the Light. Oh and a little ditty called Kashmir.
I feel the same about In My Time of Dying. Every time I listen to it, I'm completely captured for the whole 11 minutes. That riff it transitions into 3 min 45 sec in gets me every time lol
Saw them play this live in 1975, The image of Page doing a Chuck Berry duck walk during this song is burned into my brain. Best concert I ever saw and they played for 3 hours.
Good cut… another landmark album… they had new material which covered almost 3 sides…. So they decided to use unused/unreleased tracks from their previous 3 albums to fill out the rest and make a double, instead of using the best new material for a single album… glad they did.
Hi Guys, as rock albums go, this has to be the most satisfying to listen to from start to finish. I have done this so many many times over the decades and with it being a double album, it's absolutely stunning throughout. Today I still get goosebumps. It has not lost any of it's magic with the passing of time, and John Bonham is sounding like thunder on the drums. He must have had reinforced drum sticks .. and drums to withstand that power. Bonham truly shines on this album and I wonder how many speakers he blew up in peoples homes when they listened to "In My Time Of Dying" ? .. Love The Rover ! Robert Plant at the top of his game for sure....So glad I got to see them in '79 at Knebworth. What a time that was for me !! Still got the Programme. Byee Jim X
My Blaupunkt stereo system was state of the art back in in 1986 & I blew out the rear 6x9 speakers Blasting this album in my car. The riff and bass line in this song is unreal. Especially when played very loud and your driving? You CAN"T do the speed limit, no way!
Physical Graffiti is my island album. The week of March 29, 1975, Led Zeppelin entire album catalog to that date, six album were on Billboard 200 at the same time. This album Physical Graffiti got a lot of peoples attention and interest.
Amo "Physical Graffiti" !! Mi álbum favorito de LED ZEPPELIN!! "Custard Pie", "Trampled Underfoot", "In My Time Of Dying", "The Rover " , obviamente "Kashmir " PAGE/ PLANT/ JONES Y BONHAM inolvidables!! Gracias por ésta reacción! Saludos 🇦🇷
I bought this album in the 1970’s. I haven’t played it for years, I will have to dig it out. I love The Rover, In My Time of Dying and Kashmir but there are so many other great tracks.
Led Zeppelin, as we know them, could have been completely different. Jimmy Page wanted Terry Reid (superlungs) to be the lead vocalist, but as Reid was due to go on tour America, he turned the offer down and put Page in touch with Robert Plant. Reid also turned down an offer from Richie Blackmore to be vocalist with Deep Purple. I wonder what would have happened if Reid had joined either of these bands.
Heart always throws in a Led Zep song or two at their shows because they love them so much. Listen to their version of “Rock And Roll” from 1980 that they recorded at a show as a tribute to John Bonham not long after he died. It’s on their “Greatest Hits / Live” album from 1980.
@@Mike-rk8px Yep,, knew they loved Zep and considered them a huge influence. I was expecting to hear "Rock And Roll" and was pleasantly surprised when they broke into Rover
Another great cut that is overshadowed by other epics on this album. It is in a similar vein to the Wanton Song, one of their heavier tunes, if you reviewed it, I missed it. Total banger. Great stuff, you can listen to any Zeppelin tune and is is almost always a great song. Zeppelin Rules, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
The opening riff by Page is so iconic. The entire song is terriffffffic. Definitely don't hear any ZZ Top. Page is an original master as far as his guitar playing/sound.
This song was recorded for “ Houses Of The Holy” but left off the album. You can clearly hear the difference in Robert Plant’s voice on “ Custard Pie” and “ In My Time Of Dying” compared to how he sounds on “ The Rover” ( which was recorded almost two years before the Physical Graffiti sessions).
@@lyndoncmp5751 I noticed it right away during “ Custard Pie”. The mix on a few tracks recorded in 73/74 puts his vocals further down than the earlier songs like NightFlight or Houses Of The Holy.
I was probably about 16… 👍 I must have been lent the LP from a friend?! I remember playing that record about 10 times, but I can’t remember owning it?! What a great song. Great performances. ❤
yeah the Big Medley from Dream Theater placed the opening riff -> Achilles Last Stand in many of our heads. Although I always loved The Rover, at 1 point it was maybe my favorite Zeppelin tune. Although it may not even be in the Top 5 from the album now (In My Time of Dying, In the Light, Ten Years Gone, Night Flight..and even Sick Again I probably would put above it). Also a HUGE recommendation, given you have heard Toy Matinee and some Kevin Gilbert. KEVIN GILBERT - KASHMIR. It is BETTER than the original. Probably the greatest Zeppelin cover ever. It's on UA-cam.
Hi NicknLex. A while ago I recommended you guys check out 'Hi Ren', and thanks to Jim Newstead, you reacted to it. I'm still hoping that you'll also react to his 13 minute 3 part video, The tale of Jenny and Screech, partly because I heard that Alexia has a background in criminal justice. I think you'll find it quite interesting, but that's not why I'm commenting today. I've got another incredible video for you guys to watch that's taking yt by storm. It's up to 8.4 million views in just 2 weeks, and the live performance has gotten 800k in just 3 days. Watch the official video first though, but just know that you might get up and start dancing. I almost did. It's called Ratatata, and it's the collab of the millennium with Babymetal and Electric Callboy. I had never heard of Electric Callboy, and knew very little about Babymetal, but it's FANTASTIC.
Double albums whistle expensive I bought very few, so I skipped physical graffiti being tempted by other things. I reckoned there would be a few fillers. I don't think I was wrong.

@@NicknLex heavy metal! Those are metal cords! Jimmy Page and Zeppelin gave birth to metal back in 1969 with dazed and confused at the 3 minute mark of the song as Ozzy said when Zeppelin's first album came out they were blown away! Zeppelin was a huge influence with Black Sabbath! And Geezer Butler when recording paranoid he told the other members that the song was too close to Zeppelins communication breakdown! And my favorite Zeppelin song Achilles last stand is proto power metal! That song influenced Steve Harris from Irion maiden that's were he got the galloping rhythm which became Irion maidens time signature!
How this is rated as one of the best tracks from Physical Graffiti which is often ranked as Led Zeppelins best album beats me. For me it plods. The intro is far too long, Robert Plants voice is so weak he is pushed back in the mix. Certainly none of the heart beat stopping moments found on their earlier albums.
This album is in a fight with Houses of the Holy and Presence as my fave Zeppelin album (but makes for a great personal Top 3). If you ever receive or purchase the Lp (the original pressing or re-pressing), all the Windows on the cover are "Cut-out", and the album sleeve inside is reversable, so you'll either see the name of the album, or different images in each window :).
Physical Graffiti is my favorite Led Zeppelin album, I think all their albums are great but Physical Graffiti stands out for me
My all time favorite Led Zep song.
Same here
It's near the top for me, but I love The Ocean, such a cool hook.
The GOATS at work. The person that separates Zeppelin from all the other bands is the man on the drums. Bonzo was incredible.
If you want to feel the full effect of “The Rover” listen to it LOUD while driving fast on an empty road.
At sun set
" I'm Gonna Crawl" is another banger, from their In Through the Outdoor album !

Back in the 90's, Page/Plant did two albums together. I saw both tours! The closest I ever came to seeing Zeppelin! Both were great shows!

The best word I can think of for Pages tone on this song is Gritty. The whole song for that matter is just gritty and nasty. It's Zep perfection.

Keep in mind that without Plant, they probably wouldnt have had Bonham, either. It was Plant who introduced Page and Bonham as a reco to join them.
