I've always adored Kevin, still sounds amazing & looks very dapper. I'll always remember walking down the Kings Road years ago, listening to the radio on my cassette player (yes I'm old!) Come on Eileen was playing & as I looked up to cross the road, Kevin was standing in a door way. I said 'hi Kev, I'm listening to you on my radio' & he replied 'is it capital gold'...lol. I'll always adore this man. ❤❤❤
I used to know a traditional singer called Len Meakin when I lived in Oxford in the late mid 80's. He sang the best version of this song I've heard yet. I do really like this one too though. Great stuff, Kevin 💚
Absolutely wonderful version of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. How Kevin can take a standard and classic song like this which has been recorded by hundreds of artists and make it his very own is beyond me. Kevin has made it precious!
Just came across this, mum's loved this song, we lost her due to covid pandemic, this is in her houner, least we not forget, I don't think she ever heard this version, she loved dexys and this would have been one of her favs I am sure, amazing version, but what do you expect from dexys well done thank you especially today 11/11
I don't have to say how much I love this. Everyone who knows me well has had to hear about my love for Kevin and the various incarnations of Dexys every time they met me since 1980. Hard to imagine how different my life would be had there never been this spirit in my world.
i agree..i had his line from National Pride "When I need Strength to take bad on..i Just look back to where i came from "..tattooed on me ..i grew up in England the son of Irish and Scottish parents ...his words have always spoken to me...i live in USA now.....in my 50's and his words still resonate so strong with me ...
Love it Kevin. Your voice is amazing,, and the cough. As soon as this beautiful song started, I felt completely replaced and chilled. Very emotional song. Sung from the heart, treasured forever.
Most beautiful version I've ever heard of this song. I think Kevin Rowland's voice is so distinctive and that only adds to his beautiful rendition here.
KR + DEXYS have been the only constant in my life (acknowledging the wilderness years). ODIGTS and LTRS..... are musical masterpieces. This version of Carrickfergus makes my heart sing, while my eyes flood with tears. Knowledge Of Beauty.
I was in Carrickfergus the other day. It's a shithole........seriously, I live 2 miles from Carrickfergus..........but, that's nothing to do with the song. The song is beautiful. Like our memories of better days.
The best track on Let the Record Show is The Town I Loved So Well. Peak of the album. Simply brilliant rendition. For me, How Do I Live and You Wear It Well would be next, but I love Carrickfergus and Grazing in the Grass too though. Am playing the album again and again and again right now.
I met you many yeas ago, serviced you at the Hard Rock Cafe in Brussels, you complained, burnt pizza, Scottish girl, Maggie, but I get you now, time has passed, we are only humans, highest respect, love your lyrics, listened to them so much time., inspiration on highest level. Keep going.
dexys great singer just great the best just get better tell me when the the light turn green all good not just come inline great tunes well done to something different
Make sure y'all check out the definitive version if this old Irish song ie that of Sean O'Shea (RIP). He combines the newer lyrics of 'Carrigfergus' with the original song in Gaelic - "Do bhì Bean Uasal" (There was a Noble Lady): Absolutely stunning. On Utube : Machree 01
Beautiful version. Astoundingly good. Would’ve been very very difficult for Kevin and everyone with Irish parents growing up in English Midlands. Made worse by the Birmingham bombs and the incarceration of the wrong people. Everyone Irish in England belonged to what Paddy Hillyard called the ‘suspect community’. I was only in Wolverhampton once where Noddy Holder and Kevin Rowland come from. I was there to see Sinead O Connor playing with Damien Dempsey as support In Wolverhampton Town Hall. There were only about forty people there. Her concert was incredible. I saw the end of that tour months later then in Hammersmith in front of thousands. The gig in Wolverhampton was definitely the better one. Was living in Gloucestershire at the time. The farmer who owned the cottage I rented off him on his farm told me that when he was growing up the Irish came to pick vegetables at harvest time. He said they slept in tents on the hill. Because they weren’t allowed to have houses nor were they allowed to go into the beautiful village of Chipping Campden where if they did they would not be served in pubs and shops. Seasonal Labour. That would’ve been during the 1950s ffs. Don’t expect they told Johnny Depp that when he came to stay in the beautiful hotel in the village for a fortnight to do some filming nearby at Stratford upon Avon when I lived in Chipping Campden. That was 2006-8. Sorry I missed him drinking in The Old Red Lion one night with Vanessa Paradis. Madonna also bought a house there and tried hard to ensure the locals were not allowed to use a century’s old public pathway near her new pad. Money money money, must be funny, in a rich man’s world.
Yes, that's the point. But the whole video is walking around a neighbourhood, taking in its atmosphere, which makes it seem like he is there already, whereas walking alone at night is just how he is contemplating this other place.
You remember that time when you started thinking about covering a song and at the end of it, it's just pure shite, but now your lumbered with a recording because you stuck it on to vinyl for the world to hear?... Well this is one of those times... Sorry.....
@@davidoneill4379 I would estimate Van Morrison has approx one hundred times more talent than this talentless clown. Bet you still walk around singing come on Eileen.
We're not talking about van Morris on, actually I prefer tell me when my light turns green, after all yours is only an opinion, as you can see a lot of people disagree with you,

*élton john/elvis costelo/irish muzik????*
ad da Elvis Costello and Kevin Rowland are of Irish blood,so what's your point???
I couldn't have said this better! First time I've heard him. Incredible!
Speaking as a born Celt, in my twilight years - this is truly heartbreaking
Somehow just love how he pronounces silver… This whole song is a piece of art in Kevin’s hands.

Sung with pure soul straight from the heart, never heard it sung better, Thank you Mr Rowland 💚❤
One of the truly greatest and original voices in the history of music. How lucky to hear this soulful music.
what an amazing artist he is. fantastic and totally underrated. I´m german, but my heart must be irish ...
Celtic like us, probably....Prosst!

Andy J Grace me too haha
It was Weller for me. Both very bright flames.
@@claytondisley8334 yes both greats for sure
Hats off to you Mr Rowland. Wonderful version.
And people said he didn't have it any more that his voice was ruined....oh god to have such a ruined voice would be a blessing.
Now, this guy knows how to cover a song and make it his own!
Incredible version ❤
Still listening on St Patricks Day in 2021 from New Zealand . Haunting and beautiful. Thanks mate
"Let The Record Show: Dexys Do Irish and Country Soul" is shaping up to be one of the albums of 2016. Can't wait to get hold of a copy.
Love it Kevin. Your voice is amazing,, and the cough. As soon as this beautiful song started, I felt completely replaced and chilled. Very emotional song. Sung from the heart, treasured forever.
What a voice, could listen to him sing all day
Dexy's capture the beset nature of the Irish People perfectly
Absolutely beautiful
Absolutely stunning. My friend and I have waited all day for this and it was worth the wait!
Most beautiful version I've ever heard of this song. I think Kevin Rowland's voice is so distinctive and that only adds to his beautiful rendition here.
Fair play Kevin Rowland, this is really wonderful, bravo sir!!!
Great cover, great voice. Brilliant album too. Sends shivers down my spine and goosebumps on my arms. Not too many songs have that effect
Sometimes , just sometimes there are no words.
His voice is so special.
Thank you for this and many many more wonderful songs you’ve sang so beautifully ☘️
KR + DEXYS have been the only constant in my life (acknowledging the wilderness years).
ODIGTS and LTRS..... are musical masterpieces.
This version of Carrickfergus makes my heart sing, while my eyes flood with tears.
Knowledge Of Beauty.
This is the most moving rendition of this song I have ever heard. Beautiful. The 'please' at the end though
His music is fantastic and what a smart dresser.
Great version of a special song- used to live there!!
beautiful!
His voice is awesome
Such a moving moving version
There is a guy from Motherwell in Scotland called John Doc who sings this as better than anyone I've ever heard. Excellent version from Kevin.
Versione eccellente di un grande classico. Dexys la trasfigura con grande sensibilità.
I was in Carrickfergus the other day. It's a shithole........seriously, I live 2 miles from Carrickfergus..........but, that's nothing to do with the song. The song is beautiful. Like our memories of better days.
dang man what'd we do to you
And gorgeous video too

But I do have to say - the sea’s not that wide, and surely, you can fly? Excuses, excuses, excuses……
X Knowledge Of Beauty X
Nice song and video, Film Locations - Bethnal Green, London?
Looks like Hackney Wick
Since I heard this voice sing Geno I've always loved it.
the dandy can still sing
Wonderful. Luv 2 cu in Clew Bay one day. As one son of Mayo to another. (I am 1/4 O'Malley) :-)
My son calls this song carrot fungus

Trick or treat
nice version just a pity video wasn't shot in Carrickfergus itself
That would totally miss the point of the song. He's not in Carrickfergus, he's wishing he was there.
Yes, that's the point. But the whole video is walking around a neighbourhood, taking in its atmosphere, which makes it seem like he is there already, whereas walking alone at night is just how he is contemplating this other place.
Jfc I’m hosting a party of some sort in 90 minutes
that is so shight
I thought he might have actually filmed it in Carrickfergus, but no - Bethnell Green
this is ballicks
That said, Carrickfergus these days is what’s known as a black hole in N Iron speak. So no Irish Catholic women there anyways
You remember that time when you started thinking about covering a song and at the end of it, it's just pure shite, but now your lumbered with a recording because you stuck it on to vinyl for the world to hear?... Well this is one of those times... Sorry.....
Truely appalling.
That comment makes no sense, he's a great singer, little spin on an old classic, get off your high horse
@@davidoneill4379 Makes no sense? If you had any good taste in music it would make perfect sense.
I have very good taste in music, do you know much about classic Irish songs, or do you not like Kevin Rowland, that version is not appalling at all
