Im not Irish. Im from some remote corner of India. But this makes me so nostalgic. Ireland is a beautiful country with beautiful people who have suffered a lot in history. Your music has touched another soul...far far away
This is a gorgeous song, amd I've enjoyed many versions. But this one is particularly dear to me. It's hard to believe that Loudon Wainwright sang The Swimming Song, Wine With Dinner, Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road and then produced this heart-tugger. Now that's range.
My first and second grandsons were born in Belfast as their parents were living in Carrickfergus at the time. A beautiful town in a beautiful country. This is such a beautiful rendition and brings back fond memories (and tears).
If I had to choose the one most beautiful recording of all time this would be it I guess. It contains all the desire a human being is able to feel and express. I have no words.
I'm from Argentina and my grandmother was irish; when I hear this excelent piece I remember her singing this song while she was working in the garden. All my love to the irish people, Ireland is it's my next destiny. Good nights.
I'm sure you'll enjoy Ireland. I'd love to visit Argentina one day. P.S. Best of luck to Argentina in the World Cup! You guys should have no problem beating Iran and Nigeria in the next two games. *fingers crossed* A lot of my favourite players have been Argentinian: Gabriel Batistuta & Hernan Crespo!
Jabinho Hahahaha thank you, i just expect that Argentina don't cross to Germany in the semi finals, because we will loose again. "Gabo" Batistuta was the most valuable player in our selection, he has healthy problems now, he can't walk very well, he has his knees destroyed for bad healing while he was playing soccer.
I have always loved it... And with the passing of as many seasons as I have seen come and go, I can appreciate it even more now. And Wainwright does a wonderful version here.
Very nice job. I heard this song in the series Boardwalk Empire and had to see who sang it. Came across your video and immediately got all weepy. A big thumbs up!
@@cphanna51Yeah, but at that time you didn't think that something called Internet would come, giving access to millions of songs, and to that of Loudon Wainwright, didn't you? 😉
+Trisha Nichols all over the west coast of ireland mostly. i forget where exactly. places like inch beach, dingle, bantry, cliffs of moher, ring of kerry. my wife took all of them though.
Ballygrant and Kilmeny though are located in Scotland on the Hebrides Island of Islay. Kilkenny is not a town in Ireland or Scotland, but Kilmeny is a small town a few miles from Ballygrant. The sea in the song is the Irish Sea, which is between Carrickfergus and the Hebrides Island chain.
@@mjbachman3027 the pictures were taken on the west and south coast of Ireland, which answers the original question. The pictures are not of places mentioned in the song.
I went to Dublin in 2016 and sat in the airport weeping when it was time go come back to the u.s....This just takes me back. So nostalgic.

Too much suffering under British rule for so many. 🇮🇪💚🇮🇳

Thank you 🙏💕

Amei
nice pics bro where you get them
They are all taken by his wife. West coastal Ireland.
😥
Is the singer the same one who did "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road"?
Mary Miller Carrickfergus was written circa 1700's. Author Unknown.
Yes
Dead Skunk was one of Loudon's earlier compositions - he is still writing meaningful songs 50 years on (nearly). Look him up on UA-cam.
@@morganfieldmckinley when I first heard Dead Skunk .... I knew i would never hear it again so I went out and bought it, this some 55 years ago
