A massive thank you from a complete beginner who is doing a charity concert with Smart recovery 'band'. You are infectious :) Fingers hurting, but wow what fun!
Hi Drue, hope you are not paying attention to any negative comments. I am a Jamaican and I am sure Bob would appreciate your promoting and teaching his songs. I can't even play the reggae rhythm no matter how I try.❤❤ always!!
...Thanks a million...I'm primarily a vocals guy.....and just need the guitar to approximate the song....yet this IS THE SONG...but playable...(No Woman, No Cry)
He's a nice guy, but he doesn't play reggae properly. There are some good tutors on UA-cam Tuff Lion J Jesus, Steve Golding but most of the others are fakers
loving it drue! have you ever considered doing "Ain't no sunshine" bill withers? I looked up the chords and they seem easy enough but I can't quite figure out putting it with the lyrics. also I think a little finger style would be great for it.
Please, tell me that after a while practicing, my fingers are not gonna be constantly muting other strings, this is terrible!! I love the way you explain, but changing chords that "fast", at least for me, it's a dream...yet.
The chords and progressions are what matter here. Beginner lesson. If you know reggae enough to want to learn these songs, you'll figure out the offbeat/syncopated strum pattern easy enough. Decent lesson.
my first lesson.i got to learn all the cords but i can not catch the rhythm.when i play it does not sound like the song. But i m 100% on the cords just can not get the rhythm.Somebody please help please. How can i catch the rhythm.Help please thats my first guitar>
practice my fella! the beginning of playing the guitar is just the self awareness of how much time you have to spend to get better. THATS ALL, thats the biggest hurdle of it. You get better, faster and preciser on both hands fast if you put your time and thoughts into it. good luck
Yeah I agree with Martin. I just had it home and played any way I liked for like 10-20 min each day for some time. Then it's a bit like riding a bike you won't forget it completely.
Agreed, Practice, Practice, Practice... get your chords sounding good first, then work on progressions, start super slow, SUPER SLOW! Speed will come, if u jump to speed to quickly and it sounds crappy it’ll be locked in on that bad habit. Muscle Memory. And oh yeah, did I mention Practice, Practice, Practice... & Patience Young Jedi. ;)
time will tell wont work the melody is slow and soulful I personally wouldn't want to play it like that. the rest of the songs are amazing i will definitely be playing them.
I think you were confusing yourself and everyone who sees this. Be clear on your finger and synchronize your explanation. We know you good but still have to learn how teach better but thanks anyway. Peace...
Drue Drue Drue. This is not good. Much of what you play is wrong. I know this is for beginners, but you're putting the emphasis of the "chop" in the wrong place. You also say that reggae is mostly upstrokes, when quite the opposite is true. Your playing would not be recognised as reggae by most fans. The strings are also not being dampened enough.
Just grab your guitar and follow my lead as I guide you through each and every technique to begin ‘programming’ your hands to play every chord, scale, riff, lick, strum and progression you’ll ever need to play like a professional guitarist. CLICK HERE: 4LearnGuitarEasy.blogspot.com
Thank You So Much. MY dad loves bob marley and im doing this song for his bday . This helped an 11 year old (me) . And this has made me better. Quite hard but You made it easy :) THX
This is just superb, I been tryin to find out about "learn keyboard piano chords" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Nonason Ranincoln Genie - (search on google )? It is a good one off guide for discovering how to play the piano like a pro minus the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.
Anyone wondering....GREAT VIDEO (for beginners and above). Thank the heavens someone did a UA-cam video just as if...you were paying for a beginners lessons. Kudos Drue James!!! Great lesson on learning bob Marley tunes (well...songs from Legend) ••• Afterthought: This is actually a nice way to Learn guitar...if you can play what drue does verbatim’....you can actually accomplish more from this video than a few professional lessons. ••• He even does the trick where you speak/sing the chord you are playing and progressing to. Singing the chord you are playing while strumming is a great way to “learn your way around a fret board”. I cannot stress enough how subtle this lesson is for beginners/advanced beginners.
I agree to disagree with you, reggae in my opinion is based on "feeling" just like the blues. Music theory will tell you what a robot will do, everything is in a straight line if you know what I mean. Playing without theory and played based on what you feel can break the boundaries of time, beat and tempo but still comes out beautifully if not more beautifully than if it was all written in a straight line.
Mike Swizzy haha me too. I was kind off rewind listen to it again rewind again look at the fingers this time and one again try to write it down, again becauce I was to slowly try to pause at the right time and so on 😂
Hi James, thank's for that video! I am a total beginner and was realy Overwhelmed, that was way to fast for me. It would be so great if you could make a longer video about all songs separated with slowly explenation and maby written down the letters or put some drawings where witch finger belongs in and so on. That would deffenetly make my day, cause I realy want to learn those Songs. Have a great day!
Nice to meet you, James! I'm happy that UA-cam give me your "Easy Beginner Guitar Lesson - Play 5 Bob Marley Songs With 5 Chords" -- exactly what I need now. I wish you you the desire, the strength and time to realize your plans! I enjoy now to learn with this lesson and hope to play Bob Marley songs soon!
Heya Drew,i learned the bob songs from this, and as i got a bit more use i added bits, but i always come back to look and top up my strumms,1 thing i never saw or seen,in redemtion, when you start from g and go d d u miss d u,but evev now you did it so fast i wasnt sure to miss a dwn or an up,so i just winged it,ive learned that over the past yr,that your gona wing it sometimes
Just a bit fast on understanding the chord change with the strum. could have enjoyed a pdf to go with it. Thx anyway. But got frustrated trying to put your version together.
A massive thank you from a complete beginner who is doing a charity concert with Smart recovery 'band'. You are infectious :) Fingers hurting, but wow what fun!

Nice. I’m trying to learn the guitar, and I love reggae music

loving it drue! have you ever considered doing "Ain't no sunshine" bill withers? I looked up the chords and they seem easy enough but I can't quite figure out putting it with the lyrics. also I think a little finger style would be great for it.
+saltlick18 Hey, thanks for the song suggestion. Yes, I could see a finger style version working well for this one. Keep on playing.
hi Drue, I learned to play lots of songs through your videos. thank you 😃
Please, tell me that after a while practicing, my fingers are not gonna be constantly muting other strings, this is terrible!! I love the way you explain, but changing chords that "fast", at least for me, it's a dream...yet.

garland - could I use the common down up reggae strum as well?
jeez dude , i would pay you to be taught that
Hey Drue,
Thanks for the lesson. Think you can do a lesson for Feist's "The Bad In Each Other"?
Reggae strum patterns are off-beat, not on the beat
Umm no...
His reggaes strumming need some work, but he’s got the essentials correct.
The chords and progressions are what matter here. Beginner lesson.
If you know reggae enough to want to learn these songs, you'll figure out the offbeat/syncopated strum pattern easy enough.
Decent lesson.

Keep going man, your videos are awesome!! Can you do the song Sleepwalking from Bring Me the Horizon?? The acoustic verson.. PLEASE :3

It's fare away from that easy for a beginner. For an absolute beginner, quick move from G to C is almost impossible 😅

Mr James not exactly reggae rhythm, but OK, your scruffy versions are helpful - why dont you just sing out rather than mumble the songs?
Thats actual humilating for reggae and Bob marley combined
It's Marty 2.0

Wrong chords for no woman no cry ??
Let’s get to D, then we’ll E, D, G...smh lol
I think you were confusing yourself and everyone who sees this. Be clear on your finger and synchronize your explanation. We know you good but still have to learn how teach better but thanks anyway.

to hard for beginner
You are confusing.Get it straight first
Only watched „Three Little Birds“. Sorry man but you sing it just on the wrong beat. :(
Don’t be sorry, we’re all entitled to our own musical interpretations and opinions. Keep on playing.

More like reggae-country, mate!. Timing, beat and tempo are very important.

Not being a tool is also important fella
If you're such a music genius, what are you doing watching a beginner's video
Ahmad you are right in what you say. It doesn't sound like reggae because he doesn't understand the rhythm and techniques
Thought this was for beginners. I must be less then a beginner lol good luck with y’all studies
Bruce Schweitzer omg I thought it was just me!! I am going to admire them. 😂 While practicing the basics!!
its for advanced players really
....No.... I'm a beginner...he is correct...He has gotten rid of the hard "F" chord and it's still the song......
Mike Swizzy haha me too. I was kind off rewind listen to it again rewind again look at the fingers this time and one again try to write it down, again becauce I was to slowly try to pause at the right time and so on 😂

Honestly this guy confused the fuck outta me he went from G, D, EM, C, G, C, G, D. Then when he plays he just does G, D, EM, C, G. Repeat. Smh 🤦🏻♂️
This video was nothing but excellent! Thanks a lot man.
maybe show which chord is going next so we can follow.
