Spitfires started with two blade props and moved through three, four and five blade set ups as the horsepower of the engines increased. The last Seafire variants had six blades in the form of two three bladed sets of contra-rotating propellors.
i like contraprop spitfire's a lot more! exciting to look at! :-) unfortunately, they're pretty rare today... seafang was the ultimate spitfire for all times!!!
Never mind the Bollocks of the "Finest Hour" "Battle Of Britain" Brigade....that was a Battle involving the Hawker Hurricane, the Bf109 and the Luftwaffe Bombers (targets) The Hawker Hurricanes shot down the Dorniers, Junkers and Heinkels in their hundreds. Meanwhile the Spitfire pilots claimed all the glory by shooting down a few hundred Luftwaffe fighters.
Yeah, we know. It’s not exactly a secret. The Spits had to engage the 109s to keep them off the Hurricanes. It was not some competition. The the Hurricane became obsolete, and the Spitfire took over for the rest of the war.
No. It was Adolf Galland Who said it to Goering, and he only said it for effect. He was convinced that the BF 109 E was superior to the Spitfire 1B. In some ways it was.
Galland was trying to annoy Goring. The Bf 109 E was in most ways not as good as the Spitfire, there were only 30 Spitfire Mk I b, the Bf 109 E had to face the Mk I a and Mk II a mainly. What Galland said about the Spitfire was that it was better for the job it had to do than the Bf 109 was for the job it had to do.
The wing area should have been reduced to that of the 109E, add fuel injection, extra gas drop tanks , and then could have gone with Lancs and B17's as protectors!
oh it could do it but Brits dont need it in the first place. They bomb at night and to turn it a single seater nightfighter crossing the channel there were better planes but also not much need. And daylight bombing the US had their own planes. fuel injection was not needed to fly economical. Some Spits did very long recon flights !
The only Griffon engined Spitfire with 4 blade prop was the mk XII. Same for the Seafires with Griffon engines mk XV and mk XVII. All of the rest Griffon Spits and Seafires have 5 blade props.
yes its a recon plane. A few years ago this plane was equipped with a contrarotating Griffon engine and painted in blue colour. ua-cam.com/video/czwkYeoMYFk/v-deo.html
DB engines have a very nice sound and supercharger whistle indeed. This here is also very nice and more aggressive. ua-cam.com/video/C2LbeGmB8oQ/v-deo.html

One of the BEST FIGHTERS AROUND IN THERE DAY! John P.
I have to say,the Griffon engined Spitfires are the best.l love them❤😎👍!
indeed they are !
Thank you for the video: Griffon-engined Spitfires are my favorite planes of WWII and seeing one in flight must be tremendous
an absolute beast with a growling griffon engine superb .
Spitfires started with two blade props and moved through three, four and five blade set ups as the horsepower of the engines increased.

RR Griffon. What a beast of an engine! Beautiful display and deserved round of applause at the end.
Beautiful display of the most beautiful piston engine fighter ever. Thanks!
An outstanding pilot in an beautifully restored aircraft! Magnificent performance all round.
Magnifique ...et bravo au pilote.
Je rêve de voir un Spitfire en vrai 😍
That was really well flown, many thanks for posting.
She sounds and looks perfect - Thanks for the nice Video!
❤
This particular model was used by the United States army air Force the photo reconnaissance and Europe the Americans had nothing like it
Good Video 5*
Thanks
5 blade prop? Used to traditional 4.
to my knowledge the later XIV with this RR Griffon engines had 5 blades. Mark II,III and V had 3 blades and Mark IX and VIII 4 blades.
i like contraprop spitfire's a lot more! exciting to look at! :-)

seafang was the ultimate spitfire for all times!!!
this planes had a contrarotating griffon before !
look at my other vid with that plane when it was painted in blue !
It's going to take a week to get rid of this erection after seeing and hearing that....LOL
Thats the engine i want in my car
+ryushev2000 V E R Y poor mileage.
There's a guy that worked for 'Practical Performance Car' magazine, who put a meteor engine (the version of the merlin engine) in a Rover SDI.
wooooow :D
All the scale models I built as a kid had the 4 blades. Thanks for the info.
The only 4 blade Griffon engined Spitfires was mk XII and Seafire mk XV and XVII
absolutely beautiful bird but sometimes I think these pilots have a death wish. gutsy though.
why not ? later Spit´s had this Griffon engine. Sure, the Merlins sounds very brave but not like a race horse.
hatte die auch hier; siehe mein anderes video als die noch blau lackiert war ;-)
wurde vor 2 Jahren umgebaut auf 5Blatt und umlackiert .
Is this the machine that raised its tail too high and flipped over on takeoff in France in June 2017?
YEP !!
written off i think

Stewart Don't be jealous it was the Spitfire knocking off the fighters that allowed the Hurricane to get the bombers

Goering told Der Fuehrer a Squadron of Spitfires would help.

sure wait at 1.26 or so...starting engine...had to delete music from beginning
the sound doesn't work...???
