Good to see a tradesman who takes pride in his work. As a tradesman myself I despair at the poor workmanship I often see around me. Too many will do the bare minimum ,cut corners but want top dollar. Wish this guy lived in my area.
Awesome, thanks Will. This gives me the confidence to know how to properly strip and re-bed a ridge. The best video out there instead of removing the old cement and stuffing the side with cement or cement and broken pieces. I have seen plenty of videos where they don't even take off the tile to bed the tile. Really well documented and edited. I'll smash through this tomorrow or on a dry day on the back office extension of 25 years, the house is 40 years old and above the side of the front garage. Someone quoted me for the 2 ridges and re-flashing the lead around £1,800. Odd to see this extension crumble including the poor chase into the brick, that's done properly now. Appreciate you and thanks again for this videos for those DIYers who want to give it a go. You're awesome 🔥Subbed to your other UA-cam and IG my G. 🙌🏽
Nice to see the trick of switching sides to get the clean side on show. I did similar on my house last summer, found some cowboy had bunged the gaps full of newspaper!
His vids are great. They show you how to do the job right without trying to sell you tools. Proper builders. If people think British builders are all SHT watch this company A&E these guys know how to do the job right. Well done a proud company.
Hi mate thank you so much for your kind words, there are so many amazing builders in the U.K. but unfortunately it’s not regulated well enough by the government and many TV and media outlets don’t show us in a great light, there is good and bad in everything in life have a awesome week all the best Tony 👍
I am no roofer so knows nothing about roofing but can tell will is a great roofer. Some roof these days have the plastic caps at the end? What are those called and how do you do one with those plastic end caps?
Have you done a video that shows how to install a dry ridge system, in particular how you deal with the point where you meet your neighbours roof on a terraced property that has a traditional cemented ridge?
superb m8 just a quick question do you rate dry verges ,,,n correct me if im wrong wasnt there talk years ago that all tiles/slates had to be screwed n not nailed cheers
Great video. I’m just about to replace my mortared hip ridges with a dry ridge system as the mortar only lasted about 15 years and started to crumble away.
Nice work. Is there a maximum outside temperature for bedding verge and ridge tiles? Is 30 degrees C too hot? Will mortar go off/dry too fast and crack?
Hi Will, I can’t get the verge smooth. Is it a premix you use? I’m using cement, 2x builders sand, 1x sharp and can’t get that smooth finish Many thanks
Hi Will just wondering what the mix is and what sand you use. I'm a bricky, occasionally they ask us to do a verge and we've tried every sand, building, plastering with unibond SBR and it still cracks 🤯
I normally use building sand - a 3/1 mix mate A tiny bit of feb so easier to work as you know ha And maybe 2 building 1 sharp and one cement or lime on a older building
Hi I thought I would give you my mix as its never cracking on me. 3 soft sand 1 sharp. Diluted sbr 60% water mix with paddle mixer. I wet area with water and let soak in. The mix is creamy not to wet.
Nice amount of muck under the verge but in my opinion when your scraping the excess your smudging the tile. I love doing verge work on roofs. I recommend angling the trowel more and scraping from bottom up. It works for me. Won’t work for everyone. Good video 👌🏽🙌🏼👍🏼
Hi Will, just a question, rain is coming into the ceiling of my kitchen extension, I noticed the mortar verge has cracked in a few places and one chunk lifted off, maybe the cold weather did that?! Can this be the cause of the leak? Thank you 😊
Copper nails are very expensive and galvanized are supposed to still rust in a tile. The other option I used is aluminium. They do a nice 38mm clout that is made to go in plain tiles which are 14mm on a 25mm batten in Travis Perkins.
Will Qq I am doing a shed dormer with centurion low pitch tiles and to match gable ends which are dry verge I am thinking of screwing stainless steel screws in end of battens pointing up the verge as mf states wet only, then when dry remove screws and put dry verge plastics over top with the screws to match gables, do you see any problems with that thought process 😊?
I can see why roofers get such a bad rep. Had several quotes & only 1 laid out he planned to do things in the correct way re removing the old mortar/cememnt etc. Rest just want a nice easy 'fix it onto the existing crumbling stuff'. Well done on keeping it real, I'd like to think you'd do the same even if you didn't have a UA-cam channel. But folks sadly seem to have a industry agreement to botch jobs so they need a repair years down the line anyway.

Spectacular videos Will. Absolutely breathtaking.
Not often you find truly people who are truly passionate about their job. Will is one of these and a proper artist. 😎
Good to see a tradesman who takes pride in his work. As a tradesman myself I despair at the poor workmanship I often see around me. Too many will do the bare minimum ,cut corners but want top dollar. Wish this guy lived in my area.
Always a pleasure to watch Will do his thing. Masterpiece, thank you for the video.

Cracking Job Will - shocking how the sun has bleached those UPVC Barge boards - your pointing should take your eye off them😜
Great professional job Will.
Another top notch job by Will👊
Very interesting.....professional roofer
Awesome MASTER craftsman at work. Anyone who employs you my friend should consider themselves blessed.
Love your enthusiasm for your work mate. From a fellow tradesman 👍👍👍
Stunning work what a tradesman
Nice to see the trick of switching sides to get the clean side on show. I did similar on my house last summer, found some cowboy had bunged the gaps full of newspaper!
That's a classic traveller job that one! And for a pretty penny i bet. Great video mate

Cracking Job Lads.. Quality tradesman.
Just used this video to understand what’s going on with my own roof. Top work Will.
Nice to see a good roofer who is down to earth. enjoy it mate keep it up! teaching me good lesson’s. well worth the experience!
Should be simple for a roofer but he’s got it right got a good pace even acknowledges the fact that it usually always rains in 🇬🇧
How long did this job take start to finish? Looks great!
And that is how you make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
Work of art that mate.
Nice work mate
Hi just wondered wile the scaffold was up the faded fascia boards didnt get changed ?
Dry verge and dry ridge best option I think
Did you cover up the ridge over night? If so how did you secure tarp or DPC down, as no obvious fixings on the roof?
I am no roofer so knows nothing about roofing but can tell will is a great roofer. Some roof these days have the plastic caps at the end? What are those called and how do you do one with those plastic end caps?
Great to see Will back! Cracking UA-cam video 👌👍
Legend 👍
Brilliant work, what material did you use to fill the edges.. I need to repair mine thanks
I always thought that patterns should be 50mm back from verge and not in contact with mortar, is that right?
The lath should be cut back further from verge edge to prevent water penetration and eventually rotten lath for those that dont know.
Great video. I’m just about to replace my mortared hip ridges with a dry ridge system as the mortar only lasted about 15 years and started to crumble away.
Would I get a problem with damp in winter if my roof verges were perished?
Is there a general price per metre for verge re pointing ?
Nice work. Is there a maximum outside temperature for bedding verge and ridge tiles? Is 30 degrees C too hot? Will mortar go off/dry too fast and crack?
Everyone has a different opinion on this sun baked is not the ideal thing for me all the best Tony 👍
Undercloak goes on top of membrane or underneath? I've heard cement degrades membrane. Just looking to do my own and want to do it right
Great video mate! Would your approach to re-doing the verge change if you were using 49 roof tile?
Also, what mix did you use?
2:18 I have same problem, l hope l can fix myself.
Hi Will, I can’t get the verge smooth.
Is it a premix you use? I’m using cement, 2x builders sand, 1x sharp and can’t get that smooth finish
Many thanks
Legend has it that Will is part mountain goat part human!
Great video. Do you generally recommend a traditional verge and ridge over dry systems?
Hi Will just wondering what the mix is and what sand you use. I'm a bricky, occasionally they ask us to do a verge and we've tried every sand, building, plastering with unibond SBR and it still cracks 🤯
I normally use building sand - a 3/1 mix mate

Genuine question: wouldnt a 40 mm nail go through the 25mm batten and into the membrane, potentially causing water ingress?
What is your mix for the muk 3to 1 Portland or 4to1?
3 in 1
Nice amount of muck under the verge but in my opinion when your scraping the excess your smudging the tile. I love doing verge work on roofs. I recommend angling the trowel more and scraping from bottom up. It works for me. Won’t work for everyone. Good video 👌🏽🙌🏼👍🏼
Did you check those verges for asbestos?
I wonder how Will keeps his hammer so clean and shiny any tips?
Can you let me know what the mortar-sand mix ratio was and the sand type please?
Hi Will, just a question, rain is coming into the ceiling of my kitchen extension, I noticed the mortar verge has cracked in a few places and one chunk lifted off, maybe the cold weather did that?! Can this be the cause of the leak?
Thank you 😊
Potentially yes but get a roofer or builder friend to have a look all the best Tony 👍
@@BuildWithAE Thank you Tony 👍
What was the cause determined to be, and what solution did you implement, and how much did it all cost?
Is the cement supposed to stay off the battens?
Approximately what is cost of doing a job this size?
Hi A&E ,What would be the mix ratio for a verge , 1 cement, 2 building, 1 sharp ? Many thanks Dermot.
Hi A&E , thanks for coming back , thanks for that advice, it’s great to know there are good trades and good people out there 👍
Do you work in Buckinghamshire?
Are those clay tiles? If so are you using galvanized nails or copper?
Copper nails are very expensive and galvanized are supposed to still rust in a tile. The other option I used is aluminium. They do a nice 38mm clout that is made to go in plain tiles which are 14mm on a 25mm batten in Travis Perkins.
I need tha work

φιλε καλημερα .στην ελλαδα δουλευουμε χωρισ σκαλωσιες ολα παμω απο την σκεπη στα πλαινα βαζουμε λαμαρινες .ομως μπραβο σου.
It's jobs like this that makes me sometimes wish I was a man so that I can do all fixing to my house 😂.
No plastic covers ? You'll never work for Persimmon!
