- Obiwon was one of Nigeria’s finest R&B singers.
And then suddenly he quit, and decided to be a gospel artiste.
It didn’t go well. The church rejected him, pastors said no to his ministration, fellow gospel acts didn’t embrace him.
In the middle of it, an illness almost took him out - if not for a wife who stood firmly in the gap.
So how come he hasn’t given up?

God told me to join the choir in the church where he asked me to stay, I didn't want to but he kept on insisting and even reminding me of the songs that composed some years back just because he want me to join the choir. When I finally joined and I was on able to sing the chorister that there mock me until I nearly live. But any time they mock at me and I'll come back home trying, in the night in my dream God most show me a sign that will comfort me and keep me going. I have been rejected alot in that choir . Thanks be to God that I have not given up. I remember one day our choir conductor told me that I'm the worse person in choir that can not sing well and that break me down which was not true
I actually saw him like 5 years ago in one of Nathaniel Basseys programs and wasn't too sure if he was the one. Thank God for God's win, he is deep. May God help the church to understand that we should embrace all, deliver us from every self righteousness O Lord in Jesus name, Amen!

Thank you Chude for interviews like this. I think it’ll be great to see him collaborate with some of the top gospel Artistes who appreciate his kind of music. Artistes like: Tim Godfrey, FranK Edwards, Moses Bliss, etc. That way, he can be reintroduced to the Gospel Music scene. I wish him all the best on this journey and I’ll be glad to see him looking his best again. Most importantly, it’ll be great to see him doing well, while fulfilling his God-ordained purpose.

I see people blaming the Church in the comments 😀😀. That shouldn't be because it may take some time for the 'Church people' (including myself) to adapt to new sounds. We should also put in mind that the Nigerian church is generally conservative. So, welcoming sounds that are not familiar with the 'Nigerian Church Culture' may face initial oppositions.
I used to be 'only into' the slow-melancholy worship songs like the Nathaniel Bassey, Michael Smith, Don Moen, Sinach, Mama Cece Winans, Tope Alabi, Hillsong's Brooke Ligerthwwod and the rest, etc. But, gradually, I have come to embrace the likes of Gaise baba, Testimony Jaga, Dunsin Oyekan, Eben, Chandler Moore, Chioma Jesus, Mr. M and Revelation, Mercy Chinwo, Judy Kay etc. because of their lyrics. Now, I've come to welcome the Gospel Rock, Jazz, Tungba, Fuji, Ragea, Apala, traditional, etc. The new generation of Gospel musicians are doing quite well with their sounds.
It might take time, but the Church is gradually shifting, and all shall be galvanised for God's glory.

Churches now are days just want to take only people who no how to sing but those that they could take and train them don't want . In the choir where I am, they told us that before coming to choir you most know how to sing before joining. I asked this question may be some one will help me with the answer please . "The church don't want to take people that they can train to sing for God but want only those who have been trained already
"Who, where did they want them to train this people for them to take and put in the choir to worship God? Should they train them in the world, bar night club or where? They that supposed to train them are rejecting them and they that even accept them treat them like good for nothing. May God have mercy on us
