Being a Cork man, after emigrating to Australia 5 years ago.. videos like this remind me exactly where I came from. ‘Ireland is like a floating bottle, without a Cork it would sink’

I will never forget the kindest of Breda, on the day I buried my mother in 2015, we had food arranged to be brought in to Redmonds GAA club for relatives and friends. Unfortunately the catering company didn't supply enough plates, I ran from the club to Breda's shop looking for paper plates, I told her of my predicament and she brought me into the living room of the house, she came out with 2 packets of plates, I offered to pay for them, she refused point blank and just said my mam was a lovely woman, she saved the day and I'm eternally grateful for that moment of kindness from a lovely, decent old neighbour.

Great to find shops like these around, I wish Aldi and Lidl were never allowed in.

Nothing actually to do with this place - but does anybody remember a shop/caff in Parnell Place used have a revolver hanging off a nail handily within reach of the clerk, and obviously meant to send a message. This woulda been in the '80's, maybe early '90's (moved away then). Might still be there now for all I know!?🤨 This yoke looked real and all. Looked like it probably had a body count as well! To my mind, Parnell Place wouldn't have been the ROUGHEST place in the city centre then but it did used to have a bit of a lairy reputation - hookers, etc. It's almost traditional anyway that the neighbourhoods of bus and train stations are kind of sketchy! Back then, 'jumpovers', syringe robberies and the like were starting to become 'a thing' as well. If my mam or my ould doll was working late in a place like that I'd feel better for knowing she had a chatsby to back her up! People reading are probably like, "Well, a'course they had a gun", and I don't doubt there was plenty of places had hurleys, iron bars etc, under the counter but in Ireland, not just anyone can legally get a gun and legal handguns are as rare as hen's teeth. Maybe it was some sort of airsoft deal but likesay, I didn't get the feeling that this thing was 'spoofing'...
