  • In this video I will show you how to clean you pressing iron, how to remove a burnt cloth or fabric from the bottom using baking soda, how to clean the steam holes and how to clean the water tank using white vinegar.
    Start by filling up the water tank with white vinegar. Plug the pressing iron and let it completely heat up. Then start pressing an old cloth or peace of fabric while pressing the steam knot constantly. Do this until all the vinegar is gone. This will clean both the steam holes and the water tank of your pressing iron.
    To clean the burnt marks from the bottom of your pressing iron, take a new cloth, get it wet and set it on the counter. Be careful where you will be doing this because it will get very hot. Then take a wet Mr. Clean sponge and set it on the cloth or fabric you are using. Sprinkle 2 tbsp of baking soda over the sponge and start pressing with the pressing iron. Continue until all the burnt marks are gone. You might have to add more baking soda as you go if the burnt stain is tough.
    When your pressing iron is completely clean, unplug it and let it cool down. Then, take a dry cloth and wipe all the baking soda from it. You can use a q tip to clean the steam holes.
    At the end, you can fill up the water tank of your pressing iron with fresh water and run the steam for a few minutes to clean the baking soda out of the steam holes if there is any left.
    This is a very easy way to clean your cloth pressing iron I hope you find my video helpful.

    Great tip and description on how to clean an iron. I bought an old Sunbeam Steam Iron Master for $1 today at my local Flea Market. It works except the stain on plate. Thank you again! 👌👏👏

    Wow...wow..wow. I honestly was sceptical about the coarse salt and colour catcher pad being able to clean the scum...till I tried it out and hey presto!!! It worked a treat and my sole plate is now clear as it was when I bought the iron. Thank you so much!!!

    Thanks for the video, I have the same Rowenta iron as you show, and found 5 minutes of rubbing with the dampened white eraser sponge took it right off of the cold iron, and now I have a shiny new-looking stainless steel iron plate -- thanks!
    I found your video because I first followed the Rowenta site advice to use a damp cotton towel. 40 minutes later of rubbing, about half was gone. The eraser sponge (generic Target brand) took care of that super fast!
    I should add that I only had a white/brownish residue in the flat wishbone area that doesn't have steam holes. Apparently starch gets glued on the flat parts, must be the steam around the holes prevents that buildup.

    I am surprised not a single person has commented that baking soda is a base and vinegar is an acid, when you combine the two you get water and a salt, Sodium acetate and carbondioxide in this case. Vinegar alone reacts with mineral scales and dissolve them. When you add baking soda to vinegar, you neutralize the acid and reduce the scale dissolving power of vinegar. In the send part where you are rubbing the baking soda on bottom , it is just acting as mild abrasive to scratch the stain away.

      @zanelesekano2222 2 роки тому +2

      This is true but I don’t think she mixed the two. In the first part, she used vinegar to clean out the tank. Then she cleaned out the vinegar and replaced with water for the baking soda step to clean the burn.

      And there it is. Always that person who doesn't realise it's the reaction that lifts the grime! Nobody cares about the "final product is salt water" because what cleans is the fizzing.

      Hi Charles :) I started my UA-cam channel just before my grandma passed away. She wasn't feeling well, so I bought a ticket to go see her. Unfortunately, she passed away before I got there. That made me realize how many more things I wanted to learn from her and I couldn't. This is the reason I started the channel. I wanted to document and put out there all the knowledge I have hoping to help someone along the way. I miss her so much... she was the wisest person I have ever known. I am working on a short film about her on my other channel but is going slow because I get too emotional...
      Thank you for watching Charles! I appreciate it very much!!!
