I like the manual change capability in my Nissan CVT auto , as I can flick up or down ratios instantly without loosing much momentum . With a true manual gearbox once you put that clutch in going slow on deep sand the vehicle dies . This is why that Subaru could climb that sand hill that other bigger heavier manual vehicles could not . The Subaru was able to get a fast runup in a higher gear than the others and then quickly change down without loosing much speed . Engine then goes to higher revs and HP output and the lighter vehicle and staying in the tracks of previous attempts does the rest . Having said that I don't take this new Nissan on the beach , been there done that in other 4x4's , the salt does too much damage to the electronics and the sand works it's way into seals .
