    Painting and Travel
In 2016 I had the chance to visit Prague in the Czech Republic and it remains one of my fondest travel memories. Part of the reason is because I traveled as a painter - the only reason and activity that I wanted to engage in every day was to walk and paint the architecture of Prague. Perhaps that's one reason it reasons today in my memory, having painted the streets the cafés the monuments and the castles they are deeply ingrained. Now whenever I can, I make it a habit to sketch and paint any city the day visit. On when the end of my trip I happened to hear of a café on the hillside - the Letna Beer Garden which offered a panoramic view of Prague. I decided to walk up and find this view
for myself and hopefully to do a painting. I was truly rewarded by a breeze , a panorama, and the best beer I tasted. You can be sure if I visit Prague again this will be my first stop.
    The watercolor plan
As always I try to envision the process before beginning thinking through the first wash
and making a plan for the second wash.
In the first wash I will create that warm gray that seem bleeds from the sky to the river
and some of the rooftops. While this wash is wet I will introduce some burnt sienna as well as
some cobalt turquoise around the areas of the village rooftops and the important buildings of
parliament. I will leave that near rooftop empty for the moment as I want to use Drybrush to
create a bit of sheen on this rooftop.
The second wash will start in the back and work forward using a mixture of Burt Sienna
and Ultramarine blue and a bit of yellow ocher to create the bridges the surrounding
shadows in the village and then become trees using neutral tint cadmium yellow and a bit of
turquoise to create a Drybrush pattern of trees against the rooftops.
Squeeze out some fresh paint and the Go Go Go…
