Leroy Anderson compositions have been some of my favorite music since I was a youngster. I was fortunate to have a father who, as the engineer at an AM-FM radio station, was able to take me to work and allow me to learn by hearing the different types of music there were besides popular music and rock 'n roll. Later, I was able to work at that radio station where I was the guy who picked the music to play on-air. As my "ear" matured, so did my personal taste in music, and I gravitated toward classical music. But Anderson's tunes were always on my playlist, at work and at home. Many of his works were catchy and were used as background music for commercials and intros to daily productions. So many people then knew his music but not him, per se, and had no idea of his genius. My all time favorites are 'Belle Of The Ball' and 'Serenata' and I find them here on YT thanks to you, Mr. Fowler Sutton, nearly every day, and I thank you for these and other high quality postings you have made.

This waltz is part of my childhood. I lived with my mother in the American sector of Berlin. My father was a Soviet prisoner. The "candy bombers" time had just finished which brought "Cadbury" for me and "Camel" for Mom for the black market. In the RIAS (Radio In American Sector) was played every day the waltz as the candy bombers before. Music is instigator of tears and memories...

I love music of leroy, whom I discovered just a year ago.
It's just wonderful because it combines impeccable composition and beauty of musical lines with the simplicity of amusement at the highest level but is classic melodic line that make unforgettable and so close to the simple childlike spirit. Sometimes I do bring the simplicity of our Therese of Lisieux in or spiritual. Leroy is one of the greatest musical composers, because the simplicity of the chords is the perfection of the final combination.
Every song I hear from him is just a nice surprise to hear.
Each version is spectacular. I am happy to hear and enjoy this unforgettable music.

Nigel, Nigel, what a brilliant job you've done combining the wonderful paintings with the brilliant music. I just emailed it to a friend with the heading "Heaven". There is something inexpressibly irresistible about Leroy Anderson's music. It is much more than catchy, it is sublime. It touches some nerve in me, sentimental perhaps, but comforting. There is an inevitability to his melodies, harmonies and countermelodies. They're simple but flawless. They are so naïve and happy yet musically perfect. His music sounds as if it must have always been in existence and it is always just as wonderful as you want it to be. Thank you!

Can be acknowledged as one of the truly great waltzes of all time. It ranks up there with those of the Strausses.

Leroy Anderson has created some of the most beautiful music of his time. It is a wonder to me why his talent is not more widely appreciated and praised. He combines the major and minor keys beautifully as in the Belle of the Ball, an Unforgettable song.

Honestly, can anyone compose a waltz more beautifully than Leroy Anderson?
Certainly the best waltz composition I've ever heard!
(And I live in Vienna, for comparison a waltz by the Strauss family is always present here...)

Wonderful collection of both music and images! My husband and I are both fans of Leroy Anderson...ever since we were both members of our high school band where we were introduced to "Sleighride", "Typewriter", "Bugler's Holiday" by having to perform them. What a genius he was and what a legacy he left! Thanks for posting this.
