- If you've ever noticed how Aldi's cashiers are racing against the clock, you're not alone. But in a company that prizes efficiency over just about everything else, there's a reason Aldi's cashiers are so speedy.

While im checking out at Aldi, I use old grocery bagger tricks to help things go more smoothly. Such as heavy stuff like cans 1st, I keep refrigerated stuff together and leave delicate items like eggs, chips and bread last. This way, as they scan & move to the cart beside them, its easier for them to go faster while not worrying about something getting messed up
Would love to see ceo's do this job.
That’s why I prefer to use self checkout. I go at my pace and nothing gets damaged and it’s all rung up correctly.
Or complain management or corporate. Explain your items are being damaged and things are being overscanned and you will take your business elsewhere. Can also complain that the environment creates hostility and makes it feel uncomfortable.
I've only been in an Aldis twice. So they have a self check out there? If so I'll be sure to go through it next time I go to Aldis.
What it looks like. Aldi has a rating system just like Amazon and that's why people quit that job because they're sick of the reading system. No one should have to be rated for their job performance and that's why amazon always say they're just a number to us
😂😂
Treating staff like machines is not ok.
I love the quick check out but damn give people a break. This world is insane
Boy , you said it
U dont pack at the tills theres a bench for a reason
Get a union going at Aldi !
In Europe the have 😊. Your system in USA is broke 😂😂
Aldi in the UK is mainly self service now, glad the management can’t do the same to their customers!
Thats fucked up. I understand efficiency, yet that’s kinda messed up to place employees, friends most likely, against each other because you’re wanting a quota met.
When the cashier smashed my bread chips snack cakes eggs and fruit or veggies like tomatoes bananas and even bruiing apples or pears
I would take them right out from the cart and tell them to take those off my bill or have someone get me undamaged goods. If not they refuse I'd tell the manager to refund me those items or refund everything in the cart and i used to spend 2 to 3 hundred every 10 days at Aldi when i lived in NJ
Every corporation is doing this to the detriment of employees. Everyone I know that works like this with the best of intentions when they take the job quits after a year. It’s not sustainable. Retention is not the goal and then they wonder why no one in town will apply for a job. Our unemployment rates are about to rise drastically nationwide and ceos openly state their belief that more jobless people will allow them to hire people at lower rates of pay. What they refuse to acknowledge is the abuse of employees is what led to people not being able to work physically anymore. Then our politicians and corporations cry a loud how unemployment is up but no one wants to work anymore (homeless are that way because they just don’t want jobs etc) and the cycle repeats while they are busy pocketing their maximized profits. After a while taxes go up to pay for benefits and the country turns against itself spiraling to a new low. People are already doing theft in record numbers because they would rather be criminalized for stealing than be abused until their bodies are broke. And a new generation grows up believing if they work hard they could someday get that promotion or be the one making the big bucks. Little do they know they too will be consumed by the corporate beast the same as everyone else.
That's crazy there! Management gets nasty? No thanks...all the ex-employees!
Not a fair system to either cashiers or customers. Though I appreciate getting out of the store quickly and do sometimes get annoyed with cashiers in other stores who are slow as molasses, I also want the cashiers to be friendly and engaging, but they can't engage much with the customers if they are rushed to push us out the door as fast as possible. Also, the cashier should not be punished if they happen to be working at a time when a lot of senior citizens are shopping. Seniors, and disabled people, are going to be a little slower to unload their carts onto the conveyor. I often feel quite rushed to pile my stuff onto the belt when I don't feel well or am suffering a lot of pain in my back. Now that I know the cashiers are rated on fast I move, it puts more pressure on me to help them. I also try to get my stuff on the belt quickly because I want to get to the front quickly and make sure my bread and produce isn't getting crushed because the cashiers are throwing the food into the cart. I know they move fast, though, so I always put the heaviest items on the belt first so those items go in the cart first and a bag of potatoes is not being tossed atop the produce. Now, I know why so many of them do that, but it's still upsetting.
They ain't firing nobody. Huge turnover....
I have never been to an Aldi's. What's the big deal about making cashiers go a mile a minute? Not like there's a 100 foot line of people waiting. Rushing leads to many issues like mistakes, stress and over worked employees. I understand at Aldi's a customer has to bring their own bags and pack their own groceries so what if the customer can't bag as fast as the cashier can scan? Sounds like a reason to avoid Aldi's to me.
I worked at fred meyer owned by Kroger. And they demanded we scan at 25-30 items a minute or 1.5k-1.8k an hr. So they wanted us faster than Aldi cashiers. When I heard 1.2k a min I was like. "That's it? That slow compared to what was demanded of me at fred meyer"
If that's not reason to never shop Aldi, I don't know what is.
Since when does rushing a transaction & any possibility of a pleasant interaction with a customer considered good customer service? That's ridiculous. I'll stick with self checkout.
They’re so freaking fast that they almost threw my groceries onto to packing table across from the checkout line😂
I definitely look at aldi in a different way!! Since I always get so pissed how they damage my groceries!!! Especially chips!! As I LOVE MY CHIPS!!!Grrr makes SENSE!
So basically Aldi treats their employees as shitty as Amazon treats theirs. Caring more about numbers and efficiency.
Why are a lot of self check out showing up at Aldi?
Computers are turning us into robots.
PURE EVIL ~ They started out great, remember walking in a few years back and they had stuff in cardboard boxes with magic marker prices written down, I liked the rural feel ~ Then one day they decided to get to big for there britches ~now its all modern and upscale and full of gift items ~should have stayed just food
As an aldi employee, we need to scan quickly as we also dont have as much staff as tescos or other shops. So we need to try and get through customers ASAP
I love the idea that they get to sit, and multiple barcodes on a product are good for both the cashier and customer. However, everything else seems terrible. They treat their employees like robots.
I'm very regular at Aldi and I've never had damage or errors.
Bit hard when you can't control who comes to your till or how many or how many item they have. Yet your scored on the customers performance or wallet size
Checkout employees do damage groceries when checking out. They just throw things into the basket - I've had tomatoes thrown in and then heavy items thrown on top of them. One cashier damaged a gallon sized bottle of water. I pointed it out and he said, "it was like that, already." It wasn't.
😂😂😂😂😂 Blame the Managers
@@ausarianheruhtp666 Blame upper management. The middle managers are stuck in the same position as the checkout staff.
That's probably why in Germany they don't throw it directly in the basket, and instead there is some area between the scanning area and the basket, where they put it until you move it in the basket or bag yourself.
Uk you put it on the belt, so you choose how you want to replace in trolley after scan.
Uk all supermarket cashiers sit.
The counter should have a slope so the food will slide into the cart and save time on being placed in the cart.
I love Aldi’s and will continue to go there. What a load of BS, to find out they are putting that kind of pressure on workers. Especially since they almost force you into using self-check lanes and have fewer employees working the cash registers.
Sounds awful. So, does Aldi not sell anything based on weight? They're popping up everywhere here, but I've yet to go to one.
So, modern slavery
Well that’s stupid. Not surprising it’s a German company.
All the stress you can eat at 12 bucks an hour!! Yay team!
This is absolutely horrible. Don’t paint it as anything else. Stop shopping there. The cashiers can find jobs that are better for their mental health and Aldi management can cry a river to a new job as well.
Disgraceful.
Sweat shop
This sounds horrible I’d never want to work for Aldi or shop there
you get paid $35/hour with benefits
Unless I be making 20 bucks a hour, then they could eff right off with that shit.
Don't work there I did it's the worst customers are keep skates and rude who think it's great if only they knew how bad the workers are getting treated. Good different no they copy cat brands
IF THEY DON'T THEY NO WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM//AND IT AIN;T PRETY
They need to get self check-outs at all the stores, I never have any problems in northwest Indiana stores with self check-outs, but in ghetto Chicago Heights the cashiers will literally throw your groceries at you while you're trying to catch the few items you purchased in your recycled Aldi bag, since you didn't grab a cart for those few items, they won't aim to be helpful & just drop them in the bag, they literally throw your groceries at you - talk about an easy way to lose long-time loyal customers, I'll make every effort not to go there again
I purposely bag my items slowly to slow them down
Why would you do that
Perfect. That’s why I shop at aldis.
@@potatoheaadBecause they have the right and ability to find a new job if it stresses them out that much.
just goes to show you how callous we are, already barbarian
Aldi cashiers are no longer timed at the tills, which is nice.
that's asinine
Trying to keep it German
Best store ever! ❤I go 3x a week
Wow it's amazing what they expect of a minimum wage worker.🤔
Aldis employees do NOT make minimum wage, they make really good money
@@swolfe9668 minimum wage is $16 in California. They aren't making much more than that if they are.
Erewhon is owned by japanese family
aldi treats their employee's like crap... DO NOT shop there... or at their sister company Trader Joe's .. Do not shop there.. do not shop there... do not shop there... do not shop there... boycott and protest the company... get them shut down...
Good luck with that… The cashiers are rather quick, so their performance is not an issue unless they go really slow.
To put cashiers under that stress is torture and slavery...the company needs to be shut down....they give a bad name to retail grocerers
@@protector22222 No, because they can CHOOSE not to work there. Y’all act like Aldi is the biggest retailer (hint, it’s Walmart, and they’re much more strict, and don’t let their cashiers sit). It’s a job you take knowing full and well what goes into being successful. If it’s not for you, there’s other jobs.
@@rm1825114 no retailer lets u sit...
Nothing you say will stop me from saying aldis should be shut down
Hitler would have hated this
corporate big wigs and corporate wannabes be taking notes...
So, not on.y did Aldi ruin Trader Joe’s, they are brutal with their employees. Good to know. Just another reason to never shop there.
I get all of my Staples at Aldi's. I save 22 40% every time I shop at Aldi's. I absolutely love that store.
ALDI not All-dee
