    Captain Whitehall - enjoyed seeing your comfortable camp and especially your desk in. Hope to see you and your men in the field some day. LT - First Minn Sharpshooters.

      1st Sgt, here...we'll certainly do a video on the Cpt.'s rifle although be warned: the target rifle bug is highly contagious. Years ago, I saw it then I had to have one. So I built one. Then one our new recruits saw ours and this last off season he built one. You might be next!

    What is your protocol regarding lanterns? I can see that at least for this video you're using cold blast kerosene lanterns, which weren't developed until the later 1860s.

      They actually weren't developed until the 1880s, so completely wrong for the Civil War era. The only oil burning lanterns available in the 1860s were the dead flame style.

    What size is your tent please, what was the clasic sizes of a wall tent. I’m ordering one very soon.

      Its 10 feet long, 8 feet wide, 7 feet tall and has 31 inch walls. Mine would have been pretty a pretty generic size. As much as I love my wall I am selling it off and down grading to an A for easier storage and transporting.

    How do you suggest starting an officers impression? Namely that of a second lieutenant, seeing as how I'm just 20 and that's a little more accurate than being a self appointed colonel. Who (out of the sutlers, in your opinion) makes the best uniforms and equipment? Thanks!

      As a 2nd Lt. You have lots of options since many junior grade officers wore the plain enlisted fatigue blouse (sack coat), frocks and private purchase sack coats as well. My suggestion is a frock or private purchase sack, enlisted trousers with no officers stripe, private purchase forage cap or a kepi, officers haversack, sword belt and a sword. For uniforms I highly suggest Quartermaster Shop. If you have more questions, feel free to visit our website linked above in the description and email me (Captain Whitehall).

      Start as a private and learn the ropes of ranks as you recruit a company of other privates. Too many officers, not enuf EM.

    The tent you have is common for reenacting company commanders, but even in the actual Federal Army, you wouldn't have been allowed this quarters. Paragraph 43, Revised Regulations for the Army of the United States43. In an active campaign, troops must be prepared to bivouac on the march, the allowance of tents being limited as follows: [ ] For the Colonel, Field, and Staff of a full regiment, three wall tents; and for every other commissioned officer, one shelter tent each. For every two non-commissioned officers, soldiers, officers servants, and other camp followers, one shelter tent. One hospital tent will be allowed office purposes at Corps headquarters, and one wall tent at those of a Division or a Brigade. All tents beyond this allowance will be left at the Depot.

      Christopher Visser exactly correct. We try to portray every seance we can at certain events. This one specifically was a quarters style event. We have played around with different styles of dog tents and the like with set up. There's an officer in our club who actually uses a hospital tent and has a 4 post bed frame in it!

    Would chamber pots be used or might the troops just step outside?

    • @CompanyD2ndUSSS
      @CompanyD2ndUSSS  4 роки тому +3

      Official military layout for camps includes an area known as "the sinks" or latrines. They'd most likely be going outside. Good question.

    were did you get your officers hat from from what I can see it looks like it has a darker green part on top i thoute that that style of cap was used only on confederate uniforms do explain. Thank you🇺🇸😀

      It's a kepi made by Russell Osmianski (Great cap maker has made most of ours forage caps). Kepis were a common style during the war mostly worn by officers on both sides and by some enlisted men who privately purchased kepis. The darker shade you see is black double lined braid around the sides and top which indicated specific officers rank. One being 1st LT, 2 Capt. and so on up the ranks. Great questions!
