- Should You Play Mortal Online 2 in 2023? Mortal Online 2 is a sandbox full loot PvP developed by Starvault. I feature directional skill based combat and has a huge openworld that is both exciting and dangerous.
This is honestly one of the most niche MMOs I've ever covered, but there is so many unique things to love about this game! I hope you enjoy the review, let me know in the comments what you think and if you're thinking about playing Mortal Online 2.

Just built my first house with a couple of friends, we have been playing for about a week and it felt like such a massive accomplishment. This game is such a fantastic diamond in the rough.
Amazing to hear! Haven’t got to housing yet, but looking forward to it :) for sure a diamond in the rough 😊
Like old school ultima
Been playing for about a month. I’v lost a lot of sleep. Can’t wait to get home so I can log in.
Yess, I know the feeling, when its 1am and your miles from town lol 😂
I feel like they really do strive to make this game as immersive as possible. Yeah there are bugs and issues but the days I go out on my own and adventure are some of my favorite moments in this game. Meeting new people, talking to them learning their story. Getting my horse killed down in the Jungle, challenging the foes to a 1v1 duel and losing, to be surprisingly left for mercy and we chilled and chatted for a bit, made a new friend who farms materials I need for my armor crafting. So we set up a deal. Just player interaction that is almost completely missing from modern MMOs. I truly feel like your name and reputation in this game matters. A huge complaint I see from new players is that this game is not solo friendly. And to that I always say, If you were to actually live in this world full of people who want to take your loot and monsters that can be dangerous would you go out alone or would you prefer to have a group? Then go out and find a guild, talk to people and I guarantee you will start to find the magic of this game. Great review I'm glad you are enjoying it.
This is exact sentiment is why I love this game
Ty
People who say a 15$/month sub fee are a deal breaker will turn around and spend 15000$ on microtransactions. I don't get people anymore
Yeah I agree. I think once they roll out sieges and territory wars, and maybe allow you to play multiple characters, it is defo worth a sub. But yeah for some people no matter how good the game is they will refuse to pay a sub!
I believe subs should just allow extra character slots and free respecs I'm sure people would still sub for that and the people who think it's a deal breaker could still just play with one character idk but I think that's reasonable
@@SpaceNick__ yeah totally agree! I’d be happy to support the game for some character slots!
Lol if someone's spending that much, I don't think they care about 15$ sub. Don't be dramatic, ma'am.
@@justcd89 i have friends as real life example , i told them to play ff14 , they say no because it cost 15$ per month , then i see them spending 150$ in dota2 battlepass 😂
Roleplay is the secret to make a game's lifespan infinite, imagine if u were in a world where everything is made by players, quests are given by players/guilds/whatever, it's always an interesting gaming experience, no dead ass repetitiveness! I love it
when i played ultima online on the siege perilous server, you could only have one character and the majority of the server roleplayed. was one of the greatest experiences ive ever had in an mmo
This guy gets it. Same reason EVE still exists after 20 years
I'm a veteran Mortal Player. Started playing the first iteration back in 2012. There is no other game like it and all other games fail miserably to measure up. So thrilled you are hooked too!
MO2 is the most unique, immersive MMO I've ever played, and I'm someone who generally hates full loot games. But there's something special about Mortal that keeps me coming back. Despite being a full loot PVP game, the community in game is super friendly. I'll regularly stop and chat to players in the world to ask for directions, because I get lost a lot. Obviously ganks happen but not as often as you'd expect (especially if you avoid populated PVP hotspots like dungeons and graveyards whilst solo). Once you've got a stockpile of replacement gear you can just re-equip, losing your stuff doesn't seem so bad. It's not a game for everyone, but for a small minority of is, it's ideal.
Great review, very spot on. My lads n I started playing this two weeks ago, and have grinded it everyday since, lots of fun. Best part about this game is gearing up and riding out with the lads, forging your own quests wherever you go - finding hidden dungeons, fighting cool mobs and finding their unique resources to make your crafts better, defending yourself in mountain passes against gankers looking for an ambush. Always new stories and adventures to be had. Only thing I’d stress if you are considering this game is that it is very PvP heavy, there are guilds that won’t grief new players and only take fair fights, but there are others that will kill anyone on sight anywhere on the map. So if your starting solo, you might lose your stuff quite a bit before you become adept at any skill - but this can be overcome with a group of lads looking out for each other. It’s all part of the player built world appeal, guilds have reputations that precede them, and players can be known for their great deeds or crafts. Overall I’d recommend the game, huge amounts of fun with friends and can be quite immersive
You're absolutely right. Phenomenal game. I'm 500 hours in and still feel like a noob
Great and honest review! Started during beta and really enjoy the game. Never played MO1 so it was all new for me.
great video.. buying now :)
can't wait to love this game like you do.. hopefully lol
Loved the video, was nice to see someone who played the game and saw the good with the bad as well as the potential. Most reviews I've seen we about how hard the game was and why most people shouldn't try it. Just started playing and haven't left haven yet since I'm a solo and still learning the combat system as well as grinding out some books. Keep up the good work!!
Just downloading the game now and after getting excited and nervous watching your video im really looking forward to a new experience. Fingers crossed I'm not ganked constantly.
This feels like the most immersive game ever. Im sold! I've been looking for a grindy-ish mmo
I started playing this last week. The slow yet instense combat when you get into full loot is the adrenaline I always needed. Suddenly grinding feels fun because I have the paranoia that some Fat dude on a horse will come riding by blasting me with fireballs. While I can see the game aint for everyone, I really like it so far and have been enjoying myself way more than any other mmo.
i gotta streamer friend playing it, and i like it , so i got it too and im downloading it right now and searching videos to get some info , beginner guide or something like that.
thanks for ur video!
I am saving money for buy it. Is the onlyone game that i am wishing since september 2022. I need it. My dream.
Now i ve it, and i promiss that is the best game i played ever.
i love it. Played 3k hours so far and still think that i can improve a lot.
I've always had mixed opinions on full-loot pvp games, but the skilling system looks right up my alley. Ofc I definitely don't have the money to pick it up atm but I am more interested in it now then when I originally saw it pop up on my feeds when it launched.
As someone who enjoys RuneScape, I think you’ll love the skill system! Full loot pvp might be hard to get used to, but it’s definitely immersive and fun to grind!
@@MedievalMarty just dont go outside towns with more than you are willing to loose and the full loot wont be a problem :).
@@MedievalMarty on that note tho . . . when runescape? I'm still waiting for you to jump in
loving the world so far! looking forward to trying some bosses 👀
yessss!!
Well, it's only sale right now.. I think I'll grab it, I like games that make me work for what I have. Plus, I like the Medieval style, as well. Two for one deal. Thanks for the upload.
I was huge playing wow like almost everyone playing mmo games. But this one is unlike any other game it is super fun hella grindy like u said but who don't love a rewarding grind playing mmo?. It's an amazing game for sure
Couldn't agree more :D
Im buying this right now! very excited, hope theres a way to make a mage/archery build because that sounds fun
It's definitely possible! You will suck in close combat though. ;-)
Arcane Archer. Extremely viable and fun to play. I would recommend Human for hybrids.
Good video sir
Thanks!
This is honestly one of the best MMOs out right now in the sandbox PVP genre. It has its faults, but I adore the game. If you're looking to buy Mortal Online 2, you can support me through by buying on Stream with my partner code: store.steampowered.com/app/1170950?MedievalMarty&MO2Affiliate
most immersive MMO ever
has its flaws ofc , but devs are eager to deliver
What put me off first was the knowledge that goes into making a character.
But then I learned learning the basics and going in blind-ish is fine, because there is a good chance your guts steered you well since there is no real meta, stuff can still be changed afterwards and you might feel like making a new character anyway after learning something else that sounds cool.
Love it so far, 2 hours and counting on noob island. Dont even care. Want to get my skills and stuff up before going into the FFA. But, I like it, I like it a lot
I really love this game!
Nice video, however I am not a fan of the word grind or grindy. It all depends on your play style. You don't need to go into this game thinking you need to grind your choices to max, I mean you can if you want but that's when a game feels like a grind. There is no need to min/max your stats unless you want to strive to be the best PVPer out there, but even then you'll come across someone who's build works better against yours but then the same can happen to you...
My personal play style is not role-play but more role-play-esk.. I play and allow the skills that I use to develop and advance at the pace I play. I do use a bow often so my bow skill is decent. I chop wood so I am good at gathering. I run around, jump about, swim, fall off cliffs so my breathing, swimming, fall damage and jumping is decent, you see what I mean. It's really enjoyable at a slower pace.. Just FYI.
best review ever seen
This is a really awesome game. I love it. Ive spent countless hours dueling and training to sharpen my fighting skills in this game, Im still in awe of some of the dungeons, wary of certain parts of the world, of certain players, and have spent alot of time and effort in creating a certain reputation in the game and developing relationships across the world. The game is so immersive, the politics are unreal, the shifts in power between guilds is crazy. Basically starvault gave its players a canvass (a gorgeous one) and we paint our own tapestry as cheesy as that may sound. Its crazy
Come play everyone its very fun
Once you leave Haven, come to Mohki and join Dauntless. That guild and location is 100% the best way to start the game for newbies. Recruiting new players everyday. Ask for Bratsu.
Thanks for the warning, I almost burned my epic coupon on it. I don't want to support a developer who would even consider making a game a subscription post-purchase.
what mmos did you play seriously before mo2 ? Just as reference as you mention past mmos.
after watching your video i am going to buy it and play
Thanks for the video. Just curious if you’re still playing this game. You in a guild?
nice video
I'm loving this game so far. And while it is grindy, it's actually nowhere near as grindy as leveling in old school WoW or final fantasy. I'm about 2 weeks of playing, I'm maxed out in most of my relevant combat skills, and very deep into crafting, which would've taken months in old WoW.
And as for the crafting, it's so much better than contemporary MMOs. Not only are some of (if not all of) the best weapons are player crafted, but you can very quickly begin crafting great items for your class and for others, and leveling your professions is way easier than games like WoW.
In WoW, if you want to level crafting, you have to look up a guide for the most efficient way to craft, and you need to buy a bunch of recipes, a couple dozen different materials (which are sometimes prohibitively expensive) and level your profession that way, to be able to craft some mediocre items at endgame. Nothing fun or interesting about it.
In MO2, I went out and hunted Buffalo on the plains with my bow, processed them in the field, loaded up my horse bags with as much as I could carry, took the materials back to my guilds stronghold, and went to town crafting swords out of the bone and leather materials. Shit swords that I instantly deleted, but for about two hours of hunting and crafting various swords, my weapon crafting skill went up from 10ish to 72, as well as my material lore and several other crafting related skills all gaining many levels, and I got to level my mounted archery while hunting Buffalo, which was fun. Now when I get on tonight, I'm going to level it the rest of the way and try to progress up to being able to craft greatblades and then work on bow crafting so I can make my super strong Oghmir longbows. And these are all items that I will use constantly in-game.
With the latest patch and all the duped items that entered the economy. Do you think the game is a fair balance to the new player that didn't get all that loot and spread it out between their alts to save it from SV.
When you learn how to play and how to use the trix to lvl up skills you can make a combat ready character in just 1-3 days, wich makes rerolling your character not so horrible as you might think. Its also possible to change your height, weight, age with certain potions and food in the game that players can make, it might be costing a bit of gold but its worth it. And the crafting isnt really that complex once you've learnt it and gotten used to it. Alchemy and cooking is a different story tho! That shit is confusing as hell imo.
Got 3k hours so far and im still loving it. Ofc there are issues and players that the game would be better off without, but the good things overflow the bad and makes it sooooo worth to play.
You had me until you said the word "subscription" the thing is, I like to play other games, when I'm paying a sub for a game I feel that's my priority game and then I play it so much that I get burnout aka final fantasy 14. I'll keep this on my radar maybe they won't make it sub based and I'll probably get it. My days of paying a monthly fee to play a game have been exhausted 😂
Love this game!
You just convinced me to finally give this game a real chance. Quite after 30 minutes after being overwhelmed on the first island
Awesome, Its got its problems, but it so fun when you get into it!
Same. I quit after a hour
How has it been?
Ye this game is not for someone who like to have their hand hold 24/7.
Is there a discord for this? I loved old school UO and ShadowBane was looking for a game that Felucia on UO or the the world for of Shadow Bane with guilds.
Hi. I played MO some years ago and also played other full-loot PvP MMOs. I'm used to the abuse and to toxic players. My question is, is it worth it jumping into MO2? Is there more stuff to do in it than in MO? How's the population numbers? Is the gameplay smoother and more fleshed-out than MO? Thank you
well done
Do you know if they will bring back subscriptions?
Haha, you actually will be casting fireballs now, they added projectile magic Elementalism where the best spell is fireball and it's really good looking and strong.
Yeah I realised after they added that my videos is so wrong now haha! Makes are literally little elementalists now haha
we get it you love the game. This didn't inform me of anything besides that
its basically like a souls-like MMO...and people didnt like dark souls in the beginning but once they figured it out, it became popular and FromSoftware was able to produce a title like Elden Ring...the world and community is more lively than any other game ive played...while there is alot of pvp, ive met more wholesome and great people in this game than bad people...if you dont want to get attacked, you need to socialize and learn the game with other people because the whole point of the game is figuring things out...which is why there isnt many in-depth guides but that also makes it fun because youre always discovering new things that people didnt know about before. The devs add hidden things all the time
If you a group of friends and establish a foundation, then this will probably be the best game.
I really like this game, but I just don’t think the character creation should impact gameplay as much as it does.
Enjoy your honeymoon it won't last.
13:00 he was tempted
I loved this game, everything felt incredibly rewarding, I played a ton in the early access version of the game, and I played when the game released, but what made me quit the game was when I saw a video of some "high level" PvP, where they started spinning to confuse the enemy and did like weird movements to throw off the other player. That just ruined the entire game, knowing that I might run in to a sweat like that.
yeah thats fair. Endgame PvP is really really skill based, especially melee combat.
everyone talks about this game being grindy, this is the first mmo i had a feeling its super easy to get good stuff realy quickly. Its super fast leveling like 80% of skill, i can literaly make a foot fighter in like 5 hours. I dont know any other mmo where i can enjoy a fully capable class in 4 hours and enjoy endgame. (2000 hours ingame)
I'm Dazen Guile. If you see me on in either haven or main, stop and chat.
Awesome, I'll keep an eye out :D
it's the wonky clunky combat system i think I'd dislike... but I'm ready to give it a try.
Is it even legal to add a subfee to a purchased product? I mean yeah you don't own anything anymore these days but I have never heard a game suddently going "yeah you need to pay us more to play now", huge red flag honestly
Yeah totally agree. There is a warning on the steam page I think, but its a pretty weird system to add a sub a year after the game has been out
@@MedievalMarty Mmm....my understanding is that the game hasn't been released yet. This is like a long beta which will end in a month or so when they move to a different platform and that's when the sub will start. There will be NO REROLL on opening day. That seems like it is worth all the crap you have to put up with now.
So after 8 months, are you still happy with the state if the game? Would you still recommend it to someone who is looking for something different from the usual MMOs?
So update as of today: The game is made by a very small team, and they just spend the last 4 months updating their engine from UE4 to UE5 and trying to make a better new player experience - outside of towns will be guarded there will be a new system of quests for new players etc. But with the new engine comes subscriptions.
So the future looks bringht, but veterans are annoyed at the lack of content being made for them. You can easily get 200-300 hours from this game thought before you run out of stuff to do, so I'd definitely recommend it for a new player. As a veteran thought, you are going to be waiting a awhile for new content
@@MedievalMarty Thank you for the reply! Feeling super itchy here to try it, but in any case, I do hope this game finds success. The genre definitely needs something different
@@Breno_Lira if you’ve ever played mordhau, bannerlord or chivalry with that directional combat, it feels like that but with better progression and in and mmo. It defo had its issues, but there is nothing else like it that scratches that itch ☺️
@@MedievalMarty Should I wait until UR5 is released, or starting now wouldn't make a difference?
Umm, UE5 will have much better graphics, bug fixes and all the new player content. But there is a tutorial zone called "haven", that isn't going to change. You could buy now while its on sale and play in haven for a few days. Level up your magic/weapons and learn the game. Then jump over to real world at the perfect time :) @@Breno_Lira
Do you watch any of j45ks troll videos?
Tried it wish I could say had as good of a time. It wasn’t fun for me
I'm running out of memes, Marty
There are always more memes, have you checked behind the bed?
"Let's talk about PvP." Proceeds to show himself killing Bush Pigs by the Wheelchair Bandits house. I already know how this is gonna end. RIP.
I have many hundreds of hours from MO1 and I play on occasion on MO2, I'm Brewer ingame, most people know me as one of the most famous armor crafters as on the first game I was top 5 most armor pieces and weapon pieces crafted. I've been listing my stuff mostly in Meduli (you'll see them with the ByBrewer name) but I do venture out to all of the towns to list my armor on the brokers. Since Star Wars Galaxies I haven't been able to find a game with a player driven economy with crafting features like SWG.. MO2 doesn't even come close to that, but it comes 5% of the way which is waaaay farther than just about any other MMORPG so I have relatively enjoyed it.
I wish I had a pc

"you buy the game, and its free to play."
Please make more MO2 content. As there arent too many content creators covering this gem, a new player as my self would love to have guides, tips, tricks or just overall watching this game being played by a streamer.

IF the ping normalization worked I'd say everyone try this. At this point, I'm not even sure it exists.
Yeah I've heard complains for people outside the EU. Personally playing from the UK, I wasn't even aware this was an issue till I started making videos on it
A Post-Purchase sub fee inclusion? hmmm...thats incredibly shady...
What if I dont pay? That means I cant play or I just miss out on certain perks?
The game released with a big disclaimer on steam like "this is a sub game, it just not active right now". They just didn't require a sub while they were in kind of an early access.
They just launched to Unreal Engine 5 and now you need to sub to play the game atall. It's pretty rough for such a small game but its common in MMO's. Will do an updated review this year hopefully capturing all of this as the game has changed a lot
@@MedievalMarty ohhhh, so that warning has always been there? Reviews were saying like it was snuck in on them. My apologies
15 dollars a month is steep for a game like this.. Though it does seem like a game I want to get into...
No. Thats the answer to the question.
Seems like a bew ultima online
I purchased this but then left it uninstalled because of the number of problems, bugs, etc. But this has made me decide to fire it up and have a go
Sounds like it's Skyrim for grown-ups
How has it been these past two weeks? Im considering
Is game still alive?
Its a pretty small game, usually sits between 1.5k - 2k players. But they have big updates planned for the future :)
If you say niche one more time ,, holy fuck
Make the hour long video
Biggest turn off for me is the combat, it’s too slow for me, feels sluggish. If the combat was for example like warhammer vermintide 2 or warhammer darktide, it would be a PERFECT game. I would dedicate a portion of every single pay check to this game if they made the combat like that.
yep
You didn't really dabble too much into the cons of the game, Many issues itself stems from the 1server located entirely in EU.
The ping normalization isn't perfect and at times provides a big disadvantage for users over 200ping which is common for most of the world, Ontop of that the company expects users to purchase exit-lag as a bandaid solution to their poor choice of a single server & its location which is another subscription.
That's Box-price, Subscription for the game & another subscription for better routing that users would be expected to play the game.
Living in England and playing with friends from England I never had a single issue so didn’t know this was a problem. But thanks for letting others know, defo sounds like an issue for those outside the EU
Most players playing atm are EU tho. And having the server anywhere else in the world wouldnt really help. And having multiple servers definetly wouldnt help either since it would split up the player base wich is to low already as it is. Sure there is issues with the ping, but you rarely see people teleporting around. And there are alot of NA or AUS players that are really good at pvp. EU will have an advantage but its not something you cant overcome. Im EU and i've gotten my ass beaten by a bunch of NA and AUS players. Not everyone of us EU players are god gamers, so the ping rarely helps us. Its even more advantageous for NA and AUS players some times since on my screen as an EU player they can be 10 meters away from me but on their screen im 2M away so they can land a hit on me while for me it looks like they are swinging in the middle of the air. Pros and Cons on both sides.
@@Skrekt Most players are EU because of the ping issue, The game had been more populated by Americans in both MO1 & Early MO2 however the game is bleeding players, Ping being a part of the issue (There are many other issues but that's not the topic right now)
High ping players also experience the far away hit, Another issue is high-ping players cannot block on release swing animation and can only block when that person is in the charge animation thus having to block prior to the person swinging, So imagine getting hit by several people at once 10meters away unable to block their swings (It's game over).
The only hard-counter to this is to have heavier armour all the time (Steel+) to negate the damage which is unoptimal as that can reduce your stam regeneration.
Most players run around in reptile/pansar in comparison but still the basic materials can do damage on them.
NA/AU players may beat you because they've adapted to these situation which shouldn't be expected for a casual player who cannot pick up on these things nor adapt to this situation, Any hardcore player can go the distance but there are limitations and the limitations is strictly in the ping.
Match up the top-NA with the top-EU on the server and the EU player would win majority of the time due to the small MS parry timers and server player positioning calculations.
Another key-point to the ping being a issue is no heavy combat changes can be applied so people would argue that the combat is slow/fast and it cannot be adjusted as one would affect the other, If ping was better across all areas (Regional servers) then the game could be balanced properly.
Best way high-ping players can beat low ping players is to abuse Animation mechanics ingame, Ballerina gameplay to throw people off, Many people say to get rid of this combat but as previously stated it cannot be changed as it would break the flow of gameplay for high-ping users.
Sure you can't make the server perfect for everyone but then again, Why bother if you have a 1server policy and encourage people around the world to play the game, To lag and to be charged at high regional prices for the base-game and subscription higher/equal to AAA subscription titles and to top it all off buy a external program so the game can "route" better.
Live in the US, never had any issues myself.
@@MedievalMarty The server is in England from what I remember, so your ping is probably very low.
what about fps and lags :D:D:DD:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Not buying due to sub fee.
lol his voice is like clicking like a human shrimp eating peas
losing gear to a high level kid isnt fun. im out
It's not like the gear you lost is a big deal. A lot of folks just run around and fight naked. Yes gear is nice but it's not the be all end all of this game. Learn to make your own gear and create multiple sets. Also, once the Territory system is in it is likely that the people that ganked you will end up flagged for murder. What PVP game have you ever played where there weren't griefers?
Lol "you buy the game and it's free to play"
yeah that sounds bad haha. There is no cash shop or subscription. My bad lol!
@@MedievalMarty no problem was just a funny oxymoron.
Free to play until it's released! Then there will be a sub.
Seems like you haven’t played many hours and also don’t have much experience with full loot PvP.
I can see the game has issues due to full loot pvp, that's why I said I don't recommend this game to most people. I've been pvped by people stronger than me and big groups and rage quit probably 5 times this month. But I keep going back because I enjoy the game so much. But again, I totally understand the issues with the pvp and the crime system and get it most people don't like this game.
they havent considered a sub. it WILL be sub eventually.
They have considered a sub. It will happen when the game is released...watch the webcasts. Last I heard it will be $14 a month (or less depending on the # of months you sub)
simply you shouldnt. glichers, corrupted rude gms , hackers if you dont believe me just search this "MO2 Exploiting Troll" . bad optimization no proper karma system even in guardzone ppl can murder you without dying this is not a Sandbox game i never seen a sandbox game which players can murder others without consequences
That will come with the territory system which is currently being tested.
