This is part of why the whole notion of "I don't see color" is flawed: it's a nice thought, but in practice is all about homogeny and forcing diverse people to assume a "default" culture as defined by the majority. It's about making sure the people who have the most power remain as comfortable as possible by wiping out any distinctions that would give them FOMO, like different languages, religions, cultures, traditions, etc. The end result is a society that mocks and belittles anyone who doesn't conform to that default, with language being a key component of that.

I was both angry and so sad when I saw that video. To this day I can’t even look at Watters. My daughter is from China. She adopted us when she was a baby. We had and still have many friends in the Chinese community where we live. A dear sweet couple who were seniors became surrogate grandparents to our sweet girl. They poured all the love in their hearts out to my daughter and have had lasting influence on her and our lives. They fled southern China after the revolution. They only knew a few words of english but we had no problem understanding the love and care they gave our whole family. When Waters did that piece and mocked the older folks I couldn’t help but see our friends and how easily he could have treated them the same. It makes me sick to think if it. I can’t believe he is still on the air.

You see, in the US, the Daily Show bills itself as a comedy show, not REAL news, but the truth is all they speak. At the same time Fox NEWS bills itself as REAL NEWS but is actually a propaganda tool for republicans and all they tell is LIES, to people who believe that there is no such thing as reality, and that the truth is anything enough people WISH were true or that you can get enough people to believe. -Don't even try to figure that out, its an American thing... It's just like if you immigrate in whatever other country and you force them to speak your language and you're moving into their country you should by respect and courtesy to learn the language of that country you're immigrating to. I've been to Flushing many times and majority of those folks really don't speak English although they've been here for decades. Jesse chose random people he found in Chinatown that so happen to not speak English. Ronny interviewed folks that do speak English. Of course both have an agenda and only show one side of the story. I am a 91 year old AAPI and never experience any racial discrimination, at least not outwardly. I may have been treated as a token Asian. I seldom came in contact with other Asians. In fact, I seldom came in contact with Blacks and Hispanics. I have been a naval officer, Apollo flight controller, satellite comm engineer, etc. People were more curious about me coming from Hawaii than me being an Asian. I am Chinese, Japanese and Hawaiian.
