  • Demo video of the Cordovox CDX-0652 Moog "White Elephant" keyboard. This is an Italian combo organ manufactured by the Thomas Organ company in 1975. Thomas licensed the Moog Satellite and grafted it into the top tier of the organ. The monophonic synth and the organ can be used independently or together on the top tier and the bottom tier organ can also be split with a Moog bass on the left. We have enjoyed many keyboard demos on UA-cam and thought that we should post this since there aren't many others... **Be sure to watch our other videos to see the White Elephant and other keyboards in LIVE action!** [For your copy of the debut CD by The Show FEATURING THIS KEYBOARD send $10 and a return address to: The Show P.O. Box 426 Enon OH 45323. Please make checks and money orders payable to Jessica Kinzer.] Thanks!

    i've come back to this a number of times. the fact that you play the moog presets as if they were the different instruments is so much more beneficial than what you normally see!

    This is a great demo, Thanks for posting!
    this is a lot like the Thomas organ which is the same company that built the moog satellite for moog. The synth built into this organ is the same thing as a satellite as well. Never had my hands on one of these organs but have been all over a polymoog circuitry.
    Thanks again for posting this very cool demo,
    Take care,
    Jareth

    @BenUriyahMay We only have one other video with the CDX-0652, and that's "'The Aristocrat' Live at Peach's" by The Show. The sound quality isn't that great on that particular video, but still fun to watch. Thanks for your interest!

    @BuyBenco That is true. Also the company Cordovox was another company that was in with moog. This is like a mixture of three companys put together.

    @thedevilisbad I donno...If you find out let me know because ours is out, too! Maybe they have the same problem. It first started acting up intermittently. When we turned it on, the synth would work but would play the same note on every key played. After 5 min of warming up, however, it would play fine. Now the synth is like that all time time!!! BUMMER.

    I had one 30 years ago that I played through a mammoth bass amp. Loved it for the very retro feel and sound. I think I gave $400 for it...and I'd gladly spend that to have it back.

    The keyboard player for our "old" prog-fusion band PROJECTION, Antonette Traverso, used one extensively, & I'll be uploading roughly 20 or so original songs of ours utilizing that old Italian-made Beastie.

    Is there a relation between cordovox and Farfisa?

  • @geoffk777
    @geoffk777 9 років тому +3

    I owned and played one of these back in High School in the 1970's. Its a cool-looking instrument, but the sound isn't that great. It doesn't sound like a Vox, Farfisa or Hammond, and the sound is rather dull overall. The monophonic Moog voices sound Ok, but being monophinic, what you can do with it is limited. And it doesn't have the ability to do real screaming Mini-Moog leads, being more oriented to quasi-realistic instrument simulations.
    My favorite sound was a sort of string-synthsizer simulation with the organ "Mixture" drawbar pushed up to give it a very bright sound and Moog string on top. But when I got a real poly synth in the 1980's (a Korg Poly-800), I never touched the CDX again. I eventually trashed it.
    The key contacts are separated by plastic beads that are brittle and tend to break. You can replace these pretty easily, so if it stops working, open it up and check that.

    Did Kraftwerk use one of these? It sounds a lot like some of things on their records, but that may be because it is a moog though.

    • @PunchandJudyDuo
      @PunchandJudyDuo  3 роки тому

      I dunno- but they did use a MiniMoog and Farfisa organs, which when combined would be very close to the White Elephant sound.

    • @PunchandJudyDuo
      @PunchandJudyDuo  2 роки тому

      @@blakehoke6014 Right now we are in the state of Disuse/Disrepair, lol. Haven't played it much since the band broke up a few years ago. The White Elephant needs the contacts cleaned, etc., as the synth has developed a nasty warble from not being played enough. It was like that when we bought it though, and regular use would get her going again...

    punching self in face right now... i bought a set of taurus 1s in 1990 and the guy would only sell them if i took this ugly white organ thingy too. it didn't have midi, and the moog synth was barely programmable. it also didn't work, although being a drummer i had no idea how an organ was supposed to function. it ended up in a land fill a year later. i have regretted it ever since, but i was 17 and stupid. seeing it in action now makes me cry..... and punch myself in the face.
