Takes me back to the 60's where our keyboard player had the Vox Continental and on certain numbers, it was put through a Wem Copycat! Great times we had then where nothing seemed to matter, we just loved being in a band with the music of the 60's and life was great!!!
This is truly the BEST demo of VOX on youtube, excellent job! btw, anyone with a Kronos can get these exact same sounds, 3rd party sounds will provide samples pretty much the exact same sound. I just bought a VOX sound set for my Korg, and to be honest, if my eyes were closed, I couldn't tell the difference between the sampled sounds and real thing. In fact, I dare to say the Kronos was actually much, much better because a) you can stack various settings, b) you can change the filter/EQ/compression, etc., and c) you can add fantastic effects including reverbs, echo's, chorus, flange, the sky is the limit. Wonderful demo! I just subscribed, I hope you do well, you deserve it!
The classic Continental circuit is most flexible/warm sounding. The others sound either too tinny or churchy-over filtered except the jag which sounds great i think. The heathkit jag we had in here was a great sounding organ on some settings.
I agree. It's all about the smaller 'Continental'. I just sold my (broken) VOX Jaguar last month for practically nothing. They can be really fragile. People tell me Nord is the best at mimicking a VOX or a nice dirty Farfisa sound. Since a Nord is all digital it doesn't weigh a whole lot either but I'm not a professional and a Nord is big bucks (for me anyway). For now I'm looking at a Yamaha Reface YC.
The Continental really sounds most appropriate for this particular purpose. I'm wandering what kind of circuitry use all these? Are all these build around tubes, or the later ones use transistors/ICs?
@@454cassul9 all continentals use transistor flip flop with capacitors smoothing the transitions to form unique rounded saw/tri waves i guess is a good description.. the wurlitzer 7300 equiv. organ uses raw square wave generating flip flop chips. The us made cont, uses silicon instead of germanium in their redesign for similar result to uk and italian models but some claim to hear differences i think
@@sounddoctorin ha, interesting! So it generates sawtooth/triangle/square waveform, rounds the corners w/capacitors, for the output signal to be more sine-like, one rich of even, one of odd harmonics, and hence I guess the unique sounds they produce? I wish I could see a single note out the Continental on the scope already. The ICs you've mentioned, I guess some of the 74xx series (considering timeframe), or were they specialised? Thank you in advance!
What a great clip. Your playing is very nice. I love the Doors. For the lower price, the Jaguar was a good value. I still love the Continental. Hammond SK series and Nord have Vox and Farfisa emulations.
Wonderful- Each model delivers when the player is engaged. Even the more muted one could be eq'ed at the board. What a great era where the major manufacturers decided to cash in on the combo organ. The Doors, The Animals Kudos to this fellow who put this presentation together. Thank you. John Poole
Thanks for uploading. Love them all, used to have a Vox Jaguar myself. I would have liked to have seen your proposed documentary, because this turned out great. Viva Vox.
Cool Video! I appreciate the fact that somebody took the time to show the different tones of the different models of Vox combo organs. It definitely satisfied a long time curiosity I had. Thanks
ASTOUNDING VIDEO! YOU DESERVE A MEDAL! WONDERFUL ORGANS. MARVELOUS MUSIC. ...Sorry. I got a little carried away. Congratulations, man, congratulations! We are expecting for some more excellent posts like this. Peace!
The first track is called A Little Game from the Doors In Concert CD1, and the second track is called Peace Frog, also by The Doors, from their Morrison Hotel album.
Wow, excellent demo. I like the Corinthian sound, it seems to have more bite. But all VOX just sound great, very unique sound. GREAT DEMO!!! VERY WELL DONE!
Well, the Corinthian actually has - nearly -the exact sound as the Jaguar. But in this video the microphone was a little closer to the amp when i recorded the Corinthian in comparison with the rest.
Each organ serves its purpose. Obviously the Vox Continental is the classic 60s pop/rock organ. The Jaguar and the Corinthian wasn’t too bad for pop-rock. The last three would be appropriate for jazz. Love the sound of these organs!
All of these Vox Organs have the ideal medium between church pipe organs and ballpark and arena drawbar organs in the way they sound! Obviously, for portability, I would prefer a single manual, but really, with all of the single manual keyboards out here, I would have to have the two manual (with a decent pedal board as well, preferably a full 32 note AGO pedalboard), but theirs was most likely more like Hammond's with 25 (or even less)? Yamaha did an excellent job of recreating these organ voices in their 60s and 70s organ voices in their portable keyboards (of which I have two, a 2005 YPT 200 and a 2013 YPT 330, which has velocity sensitivity and these aforementioned organ voices).
Bitchin! This was incredibly informative!! As it turns out I really do prefer the sound of the jaguar and the Connie over the others. I have never heard them all side by side so I was never sure what was just my imagination or misremembering. Thanks for taking the time to do this!!
GREAT...just an AMASING video....it really worth all of your time "and money" to get all off those together....i didn't dream that there was such a tone difference between VOX's models Thank YOU: )
@Brad Wolf- It is not Break On Through. I heard a demo of a VOX Continental plug in that sounded the same as that. It is called "Double Fun" I do not know who wrote it though.
In 1972 I bought a Continental 300H (made in Hastings, Sussex), and a Sharma Rotary cabinet. I had them adapted by a first class organ technician, and the sound was phenomenal! It sounded more like a Hammond/Leslie combo than a real Hammond/Leslie! I reluctantly sold the whole lot for £40 in 1987 - big regret. I'd love to know where they are now.
@tvnist ray changed to a gibson g101 organ because vox started my their organs with plastic keys instead of wood. he had to change because the plastic keys would break because of the way he played so hard. the gibson g101 still had wooden keys so he started using it instead of the vox. hope that helps.
congratulations for this video and this Vox organs. The sound that I like the most, is that of Continental. The sound seems more balanced...from what I hear via UA-cam...
Amazing video! It is clear and it has no unnecessary talking. All of these organs sound lovely. I do prefer the Jaguar, and my last choice would be the Jennings J70. But it is a question of personal taste. Each person has it's own.
I've watched this 3 times in a row now... they're all good. I prefer the ones with the brighter sound, like the original Continental... but the more mellow ones are good too.. I guess I'm thinking in terms of playing live, with guitar, bass, drums.. and volume & tone could be adjusted, whether the organ would go thru an amp or the PA.. Ever heard the first Moden Lovers album? Or The Velvet Underground's Sister Ray (John Cale on organ)? Anyway, thanks for making & posting this, great stuff !!!!
They all sound great, To better gauge the difference in sound of the organs they should all be at the same volume level. I believe there is some inaccuracy in the sound differences of each organ that occur as a result of not having the volume at the same level for every organ.
@fguka I never used to think so. In my first Doors tribute our organist had a Jag and I thought it sounded great...then I heard a Connie! You should be able to tell, (what I consider to be a HUGE difference), in this vid.
Nice demo . The earlier ones sound brighter , rawer . The later double manuals sound smoother , more sophisticated .. I'd say which one is best depends upon what type of music you are playing .. Cheer's .
Thank you so much for this! I have a Italian Vox Continental that I bought when I was 13 years old and paid $19 a month payments on it to my older brother who bought it for me! So I am very prejudice. The best thing I ever did was keep it! Too bad I sold my original tube fender baseman amp! Has anyone ever played the Vox Continental through Leslie town cabinet?
what absolute freakin fun....got here by punching in differences between....wonderful...the last one I sold was to augie Meyers...my favorite from sir douglas quintet....now with bob Dylan.....thanks again ...paddy o furniture
I liked the sound of continental 300 Italy but it has some high pitched background noise. The UK version was tuned a bit higher than the others. The intro was very cool, very '60s style (zooming and everything), very cool demo.
I wish there had been Rheem, Gibson, Farfisa included for comparison and even the RMI. But very appreciative of this fellow's contribution. There is something off putting with the Corinthian.
The last song that is played is called "Double fun". I heard it in a demo the other day and it was listed as that so I'm guessing that is what it is called. ;)
This test was designed real well in showing the ranges quickly. Ive noticed that all the UK models sound better. I wonder if a UK Jaguar would sound clear like the connie, instead of buzzy and cheezy like this one.
Takes me back to the 60's where our keyboard player had the Vox Continental and on certain numbers, it was put through a Wem Copycat! Great times we had then where nothing seemed to matter, we just loved being in a band with the music of the 60's and life was great!!!
What a fantastic demo of the Vox models. Great work!! This should be in a museum along with the instruments...
Ray, is that you?!
He's hiding out in Queensland.
No! John Wayne.
The Continental is the King of the VOX organs.
Such a legendary and badass sound!
This is truly the BEST demo of VOX on youtube, excellent job! btw, anyone with a Kronos can get these exact same sounds, 3rd party sounds will provide samples pretty much the exact same sound. you can also do most of the effects on a VOX of the 60s, too. you just need envelopes.
The sounds of ... 'Come on Baby Light my Fire' and 'House of he Rising Sun'... awesome
Hi, the part at 3:49 is just something i did in the vid. It's nothing from the Doors.
Is it a song or did you make it, if you made it. Impressed I am I like it a lot

Buy a Nord Electro 3, 4, 5 OR 6, they are the cheapest, is the best similar Vox Continental sound that i have heard.
The Continental really sounds most appropriate for this particular purpose. I'm wandering what kind of circuitry use all these? Are all these build around tubes, or the later ones use transistors/ICs?

Thomas Pick Humpable, clean it up.
the first one is clearly the best
It certainly hits a sweet spot.
Loudest

Nice video !!!! Great organ collection!!!
The continental 300 (UK) Is my favorite! Sounds warm and classic!
Cool Video! I appreciate the fact that somebody took the time to show the different tones of the different models of Vox combo organs. It definitely satisfied a long time curiosity I had. Thanks
I wish they still made these beauts! Got too love the sound of a Vox always dreamed of owning one! :P
ASTOUNDING VIDEO! YOU DESERVE A MEDAL! WONDERFUL ORGANS. MARVELOUS MUSIC.
...Sorry. I got a little carried away. Congratulations, man, congratulations!

4:50 Best part of the video imo
The first track is called A Little Game from the Doors In Concert CD1, and the second track is called Peace Frog, also by The Doors, from their Morrison Hotel album.
I loved your video, I like all of those transistor organs very much.
I had a Crumar Traveler 1.
I was going to sell my Jaguar but I just can't. I love the sound of these VOX keys too much!
Wow, excellent demo. I like the Corinthian sound, it seems to have more bite. But all VOX just sound great, very unique sound. GREAT DEMO!!! VERY WELL DONE!
I like the sound on the Corinthian. It's so bright it borders on harsh.
The Continental has such a great full range balance. The bass, while still quite boomy, doesn't overpower the higher notes when played together.
Well, the Corinthian actually has - nearly -the exact sound as the Jaguar. But in this video the microphone was a little closer to the amp when i recorded the Corinthian in comparison with the rest.

I like the pink top Vox sounds the best… Big fan of vintage Vox instruments wish I had some to play…☮🔥
This video is incredible, thanks!
Can we all send the guy $20. Give me his name and I'll send a check.
I would put $50 in his brandy glass if he would do a demo of the Velvet Underground's 'Sister Ray'. I'm serious! Watch this space!
Great comparison, enviable collection, excellent playing. Cheers!
That Doors organ sound is so sweet.
They all sound so cool.....I really dig that reverse black and white key look 🤓
Bitchin! This was incredibly informative!! As it turns out I really do prefer the sound of the jaguar and the Connie over the others. I have never heard them all side by side so I was never sure what was just my imagination or misremembering. Thanks for taking the time to do this!!
Slanky Jeez man, I was stoked to hear someone else talk like me then I realised I wrote this from my abandoned UA-cam account 2 years ago.
Slanky/Diego: Now that's funny right there!
An amazing instrument for it's day.
Defining sound of the 60's IMHO.
Wish you'd do another You Tube & play Light my fire.
This is a beautiful comparisation, perfectly demonstrated. if only every video on youtube was like this. thank you
GREAT...just an AMASING video....it really worth all of your time "and money" to get all off those together....i didn't dream that there was such a tone difference between VOX's models
Thank YOU: )
My favourite out of this lot is the original single manual vox continental. I've always wanted to play on one too.
They all sound damn good. I think Ray Manzarek used the Vox Continental. And a Fender keyboard bass.
Correct!
Missy Victoria up until late 67. He eventually went to a Gibson Kalamazoo organ because the Vox organs weren't very road worthy.
@Brad Wolf- It is not Break On Through. I heard a demo of a VOX Continental plug in that sounded the same as that. It is called "Double Fun" I do not know who wrote it though.
Very good demo and playing I found my self going back in time, for me the continental is the best sound
superb demo, thank you very much
I just bought the VOX sound set for the Kronos, it sounds just like this demo, amazing!
Most definitely, man. This guy is awesome! I am always gonna be a huge fan!
thank you for doing this!!!!!! Great playing btw!

I think I like the sound on the pink one best

Such a beautiful instrument
The Doors for eternity ✨
Thanks a lot for this one !!
I'm looking forward to the documentary you're planning to make.
Vlaamse groeten
they all sound great - I could use any of them.
@ladrinski9 it's When the Music's Over by The Doors
They all sound great, To better gauge the difference in sound of the organs they should all be at the same volume level. I believe there is some inaccuracy in the sound differences of each organ that occur as a result of not having the volume at the same level for every organ.
i like this guys feel
To my ear, the first one sounds most "Doors-like."
i like the first one the best!
oh, thanks Peace frog I didn't know that. I guess ya learn something new every day. Thanks again for clearing that up!
Hi, Light my fire, When the music is over, own creation.
@fguka I never used to think so. In my first Doors tribute our organist had a Jag and I thought it sounded great...then I heard a Connie! You should be able to tell, (what I consider to be a HUGE difference), in this vid.
That is quite the collection

When the music's over, perfect
Cheese all the way, nice playing and a nice demonstration of the differences. I cannot pick a favorite.
You can set them to different drawbar settings, so you won't have to change in the middle of songs, and it sounds interesting to mix them,.
Are you in vox heaven or something? This video really did it for me today thanks.
YEAH THE DOORS!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this! I have a Italian Vox Continental that I bought when I was 13 years old and paid $19 a month payments on it to my older brother who bought it for me! So I am very prejudice. The best thing I ever did was keep it! Too bad I sold my original tube fender baseman amp! Has anyone ever played the Vox Continental through Leslie town cabinet?
of course... great choice of music for organ demos
What a fun channel!
Peace Frog instrumental from The Doors Live at at the Aquarius Theater 1969
Thanks for the kind comment!
awesome organs and very good playing!!!
what absolute freakin fun....got here by punching in differences between....wonderful...the last one I sold was to augie Meyers...my favorite from sir douglas quintet....now with bob Dylan.....thanks again ...paddy o furniture

The intro was very cool, very '60s style (zooming and everything), very cool demo.
Great video and great playing !
That Vox Jaguar sounds amazing... and dude, YOU ROCK!!
I think he used the ol' Fender Rhodes on the song LA Woman also, it sounds alot like it.
Csodálatos Hangszer! ❤️🎶
That is really awesome! Nice organs there.
My God these instruments are in good condition, amazing!
I wish there had been Rheem, Gibson, Farfisa included for comparison and even the RMI. But very appreciative of this fellow's contribution. There is something off putting with the Corinthian.
John Poole
I think , that the black one with double keyboard sounds greatest. ;)
The last song that is played is called "Double fun". I heard it in a demo the other day and it was listed as that so I'm guessing that is what it is called. ;)
Let us know about the documetary, I would be very interested in that, gonna include a Vox Riviera?!
The best video on youtube
That first continental, the one with the pink top, definitely sounds like the one on early doors songs. The sound is distinctive.
Wow, you said that was your own creation at 3:49 ? That's amazing! If you made a record I would definitely buy it!
Hey Peacefrog! Man I couldve SWORN I've seen a picture with Ray playing a Vox Jaguar, with no bass on top, and Jim next to him singing.
This test was designed real well in showing the ranges quickly. Ive noticed that all the UK models sound better.
I wonder if a UK Jaguar would sound clear like the connie, instead of buzzy and cheezy like this one.
Awesome playing and sounds!
It's very rare, there were about 500 built, and yes it would be great to hear it through the Gyrotone too!!
I see you also have a Philicorda behind the
J 70, boy are you lucky!
It's a version of peace frog that was redone by a band in the 70's but i don't think it was released.
Hard to compare with the different output levels, but this a really great source. thanks!
Muy buen órgano lindo sonido
The Vox is the best, I hate the scratchy sound on the Jaguar and Corinthian. Love this video!
