  • In this episode we take a look at one of my favourite products, Hydrate 80 as well as a product I've not used before, Deox-C!

    Hey Ollie, what an amazing product it's taken many years for the grime and rust to take hold and it's removed in a matter of minuets, that's a definite wow !!! Today is a bit special as well I've made two years as a member of this amazing channel. Take care my young friend and as always stay safe. :) :) :)

      First member to get to the 24 mark, I know I say it time and time again but can't thank you enough for the support and the donations on top of that! Glad you enjoyed the video, the Hydrate 80 is the best product I think I've used so far for this project!

    ALl I can say is great work, Ollie. Definitely have that sorted and fitted well.

    I'd suggest getting a bigger portable tub to start using the DEOX-C on the larger metal items once you've cleaned off the surface rust, that will make them even more receptive to the Hydrate-80 and paint.

      Yeh I just used what I had to hand, it’s great stuff and plan to try some larger items soon!

    That’s weird , could be sure I left a comment yesterday. Maybe it got lost between being on members‘ only preview and live for all?
    Anyway in case you didn’t see it, just wanted to say thoroughly enjoyed this one; one of the best in your „full size“ series. Timelapses of the Hydrate 80 working on the rust were great. Regards Matthew

      Im sure you had already left a comment but not sure now! Appreciate you saying its one of the best episodes so far, sadly the views say otherwise haha, all the best Matthew

    Fantastic! Less than a minute in & it's already a great video! Can't wait to see more!

    This is a interesting idea as most preservation groups only tend to get the worse of the rust off then apply a few coats of green anti corrosion primer paint.
    If you have ever used Deluxe materials track magic has a rust coverter in it. I decided to clean up some rusty scalextric track and after giving it a rub down I applied the track magic and it did actually convert the rust back to something that resembled metal.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому +1

      Yeh usual practise would just be sand back and apply pea green paint but this method I think will last longer! (Hopefully)

    Lovely to see a new lease of life in the metal. Does the chemical change the metal surface or does it just seal/coat the surface and block further moisture oxidising the metal?

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 роки тому +1

      The latter I believe, it has worked wonders so far

    • @ItsMeYourRealDad
      @ItsMeYourRealDad Рік тому +1

      @@WardleRestorations it actually does both. A direct quote from Bilt Hamber "its electrochemical function stabilises existing corrosion by converting the iron oxides into a protective metal complex". So it actually converts the rust into a protective coating rather than just sealing it

    Thanks Ollie! I wondered if the Deox C was for ferrous metals only(containing iron) only or does it work on Aluminium alloys too? A very different effect if it does. Heh, the Sacrificial Chisels. Every workshop should have some! Really handy with grime and rust et.c.....y'don't need me wittering on :) Here's to the progress you're making, strength to your elbow and keeping safe and well. Nice one, sir.
    (That's quite a list in the Video Notes there.)

      Haha glad you enjoyed mate and thank you for the donation as always! Not sure what the exact list of metals that it does and doesn’t work on but seems most metals will work with it!

      You’re welcome.
      I was looking for videos on Bilt Hamber rust prevention for my car and really glad I stumbled across your video.
      I’ve subscribed now to watch the rest of your stuff.
      I live close to Barrow Hill Roundhouse and have a mild interest in steam engines and old railways. 👍🏼

    Would also take the time to reassemble the brake rigging with some grease or never seize to help lubricate the moving surfaces and protect them during the restoration

    Do tell me- where did you get the Coal sector cap? Regards Matt

      The bump hat I actually got from the railway as it’s PPE very much needed for being in the pit, it’s already saved my head a few times 😂 I was worried this episode had a bit too much talking but glad you enjoyed it!

    I have just discovered your fantastic project to restore this British brake van which happen to be my personal favourite piece of rolling stock on British railways. I envy that you actually own one, although its a big project to take on but a hugely important one but for the preservation of our railway heritage. i would love to help but in reality i am not fit enough to be of practical use. But i fully support what you are doing and proud of what you are doing. i have only just seen episode one so i have a lot of catching up to do, by the way what does the title of Wardle Road mean ? anyway good luck with all.

      Yes you certainly have plenty to catch up on! The name of the channel is my grandad's surname which I then used to make a station name for my OO gauge layout and it just stuck I guess! Glad you are enjoying the videos and hopefully catch up in time for the next episode!! Really appreciate the kind words, all the best :)

    Hi Ollie I am up to ep16 of this great series and wonder if you can answer a couple of questions for me which might sound a bit random but I am detailing the airfix brake van kit. First, I think the chimney on the kit is on the wrong side. As you walk in your stove is immediate left but on the kit it's on the right. We're they all the same? Secondly, the kit has the large vacuume brake cylinder but I can't see one on yours. We're they always fitted? and where fitted, are they the same side as the stove? I want to get it right! Many thanks with any help.
