    Ice swimming has gotten bigger here in the US. They hold a swim cold water event in a Vermont lake each year. Highly recommend. Totally cold.

    What do the warm, cool and ice categories mean on the results sheets?

    • @danwallace93
      @danwallace93  9 місяців тому

      Those are your swimmers classifications. It’s based of how many ‘ice swims’ you have done. You start off as a ‘warm’ swimmers and the more recorded ice swims and competitions your complete you will end up reaching ‘cold’ standard.
      I still have a way to go!

    Hey Dan whats the progression for being able to swim in 6deg water? I've been dipping into the Baltic sea at that temp or below but without hands or head, being able to actually swim seems pretty impossible

      It seems impossible at first!
      The hands come naturally, next time you go in, have your hands in the whole time, often the wind chill on your hands can be worse than the water.
      The head is a bit harder, you have to commit to the cold, there’s always going to be a period where the pain spikes when you first out your face in, but keep at it for 2-3 minutes and your body will acclimatise.
      It just takes commitment and frequency. You’ll teach your body how to handle the cold 🥶

      @@danwallace93 thanks mate, I've kept my hands out so far for fear of not being able to lace my boots afterwards but I guess I need to give it a crack

      @@leburgh8242 I was the same. The important thing is if you are going to commit to getting ‘properly cold’ which is manageable if it’s done correctly, then it’s important you warm up properly.
      Simple things like gloves that aren’t tricky to get on when your fingers are numb, and shoes that can slip on easier than fiddly laces.

      You’re a smart man. The cold has impacted my ability to make smart choices like that 😂
