I started watching the TdF in 1994 when Indurain was on top, and I watched all Lance's tours. These guy inspired me to take up recreational cycling and I got super fit and healthy because of it. This year, I'm 64, I tried one big mountain stage in France (Alpe D'Huez). The hardest physical challenge I've ever done. It was brutal. These guys ride over two other mountains AND do the Alpe, and that's just 1 stage out of 21. I had massive respect for these guys before, but after trying a stage myself... these guys are super human and I have nothing but admiration for them.

Jan Ulrich, Armstrongs long term adversary, was struggling over the last years: depression, drugs, alcohol and family left him. Only a few people remained with him. Once Armstrong heard of him struggling, he was there too.....He visited him multipel times, organised a stay in a drug addiction center and simply looked after him.
    That's who Lance Armstrong is.....

To this day he rides a bike at 89, with the small diffenence that he changed race bike to 3-wheeler, after he had fallen off a bike and broke his arm. I remember when I was a kid, there have been 2 tv at his place. One would be set to EuroSport 24/7 playing Tour de France, Tour de Pologne or Giro D'Italia. Second for the rest of family to use ;)

Despite the doping which everyone did and probably still do, I still think Lance remains one of the most incredible people in sports. What is asked of these incredible athletes who participate in probably the most gruelling and underpaid sport ever is ludicrous . No other athlete in the sport was able to bring so many people into it and promote it like he did. Maybe that’s why he was chosen to be the scapegoat for all the doping that was going on.
Lance inspired me and helped me with my recovery of testicular cancer and was a great source of motivation. My wife had given me his book to read while I was going through chemotherapy and when I learned he was coming to my home town, I went to see him and he autographed it. What Lance is saying is 100 percent true about EPO, you have to be naive to not think that top tier athletes have been using doping methods even this till day (EPO, blood transfusions, testosterone, human growth hormone). His competitors in his era was completely filled to the gills with it, and he dominated all of them, his mindset and genetic ability is what made him a grand tour freak (7 Tour de France's). Bill, always love your stuff. I must say that Golf is an addiction and a lifestyle for all players. It is far more than a sport, though it's the most played sport in the world. I have just sold my golf business. People who play will generally use all of their spare money on gold equipment. If you're a Golfer, you think about Golf every 10 seconds. I appreciate the idea of only watching the finals, but I guarantee you if you spent a year learning to play Golf. It would consume your thoughts all day long. Just some food for thought, as I was in the industry for years. It's also the most watched sport in the world because you can have it on in the background when you're working. It's quite relaxing and the best sport to alleviate tensions or anger, even if you are no good at it.

He has the same gene that serial killers have where there's no empathy or accountability. If it seems as if he does, it's just an insincere put-on. One of my interactions with him was where he and a friend were biking on a road side by side...with traffic coming the other way, there was (no exaggeration) 20 cars going 10 mph stuck behind him. He was carrying on a conversation with the rider next to him with no concern at all for everyone behind him. In that situation, cyclists are supposed to go single file. He fits the definition of narcissistic psychopath. It's a good thing he decided to go into cycling rather that serial killing.
