I was just putting together raw prints for a food cart this morning and bam your video pops up! Looks like I was on the right track, your build is almost exactly what I had in mind. Awesome job buddy!
I would like to build a larger version of your trailer,I love it! It's like a enclosed utility trailer, with the flattop,I love the exhaust fan you installed over the flattop, deep fryer,8ft smoker.
Very nice setup. Do you have any updates on this cart? This video was made in 2014 and I'm guessing many people would love to see how it has been performing so far.
This is great, I'm looking to build a starter dessert trailer for my wife, so she can sell her desserts at farmers market events, maybe event start catering. And this is a great reference blueprint using a harbor freight trailer
You have some great ideas- and a great video. I am making a food cart out of a small pop up camper- it already has 1sink, water tank, grey water tank, propane hook up, tiny fridge, and a stove that hooks to the outside. It has a batter that will power it or I could use the 110plug in.
I can't seem to find a cart locally that fits my needs, thank you so much for sharing this. I'm inspired to just build my own for the summer! I will most definitely keep in touch!
J.D. Valdez Thanks for posting J.D., glad to have you on board! I had a lot of fun with this build and I learned a lot from it. In the end I think if I could do it over again I would have tried to build something I could work inside of instead of the stand in the elements style that I built here but each style has its own purpose. If you live in a good climate and your space is limited then the cart concept is the best, but if you're going to be working events and flea markets the ability to move quickly is important and a more mobile approach is better. Let me know when you start your build, I'd love to see what you decide on and how it turns out! Take care, BurbBilly
Nice build, I just wanted to let you know that if you run your fridge and pump. When it's hooked up direct DC 12V, you should get better battery performance. Using your inverter keeps draining power weather.your using anything or not because the inverter fan will continue to run all the time. Just food for thought ☺️🤔. God Bless you and your family 🙏💝 Uncle Jeff 🥰.
Billy...you have room for two solar panels to charge your batteries...you could actually have more if you use the ultra-lite flex panels that fold, and store them on top of the cart, but deploy then on the ground while you or some one is working. When done, fold them up and store them back on top. You could have 6 to 9 panels at 35 watts each. (?) You can wheel this on a refurbished electric golf cart or small vehicle converted into electric...save on gas! One other design could be to put the entire operation on an extended trike...electric trike. Design a "coup" for the trike, make it out of thin plywood and glass it over or out of a mold would be better with the gel coat. It will be very lite and very strong. Actually now that I'm thinking about it...the whole thing instead of heavy wood, framed with carbon pipes. Set the fittings for the overhead exhaust, counter space and refridge space etc. all molded...sinks etc. And have the door be hinged or snapped off so you can place it on the ground to use as sign. Great stuff! Awesome Job...the plumbing and electrical was Great! Real nice set up...AS YOU CAN SEE...INSPIRING! THANKS FOR SHARING. GOD BLESS!
I just bought a 6×10 trailer a gift for my mom. She has ideas and hopes of selling food. My mother was terminated from her job wrongfully. She got tired working at hospitals. Since now I want to build her a food trailer. Your trailer inspired me of how narrow space can make everything run on 2 batteries. I will like to build a trailer same as yours that depends on his own. adding water gallons & propane. Run the A/C with solar panels. I wish i could have a blue print how to run the wires. I am noob.
Depending on what you put in the trailer it may not work with batteries. When you lay out what you want on there anything that is electrical will have an amp or load amount printed on it or you should be able to find it online. You can't run more than a few amps for very long on the set up I have. Like an electric coffee pot wouldn't work, or an electric fryer. Too much load and you would need either a generator or an external power source.
The bars to entry in this work field may not be as expensive as one might think. When I was a kid. My sister and I sold snack cakes, potato chips and sodas to the kids in our neighborhood using a 3 wheeled bike, a cooler and an umbrella. We raised enough money to do stuff like go to 6 Flags. But now as an adult, I'm strongly considering building my own gut truck and trying my hand at this stuff again.
I love it... I'm 42 and been cooking for the man my whole life .. im currently wanting to get into selling charbroiled chili dogs from a cart.. and I only have a few thousand in savings ... I need to build one .. I love this vid and your cart is a dream!! how can build something like this too?
nice. I'm thinking of building one for my daughter and husband as a side business for them. I like the fridge and will most likely go with a 4x8 trailer for as much space as possible. I will probably attach stainless steel sheet to the back of the griddle for easy clean up .
dank donkerson I wish I had started with a 4 x 8 frame, I originally planned on doing that and got talked out of it and would have been a lot better off if I had stuck with my first plan. The 4 x 4 cart doesn't give you enough room if you want a fridge on there and when you have to add on like I did it throws the balance off. Before you start though I'd look at where they are setting up and see what other venders are using in that similar situation. If I could have a do over I'd have built it enclosed in a 12 or 14 foot trailer. Would have been a faster build and all my cook stuff would have been self contained. Food for thought...:-)
I live in NH and a guy at a home depot has the enclosed trailer, he paid $36,000 fir it and said if he did it again he'd just get the shell for $17,000 and do the interior himself. I saw another guy at a home depot who has a stand that looks like a big converted utility trailer that's nicely set up, 3 sides open up. I have a question, how much did you pay for the griddle? I was thinking of buying a 36" blackstone griddle from Home Depot and building it into the stand with a fire box around it with a portable grill next to it. I've been looking for steamers like the ones on the cart but I cant find them on line, it's like they're a big secret that they don't want to sell. did you have the same problem? BTW the deep freezer is awesome and something I wouldn't have thought of, might have to steal that idea from you. :)
dank donkerson Griddle was around $1000. Before you buy anything determine where you will be using it and then contact the local health department. Depending on your inspector they may not approve the Home Depot griddle. Usually they want it to be commerical grade. There are exceptions for every rule though and health departments vary from locality to locality
wow amazing cart man!!! me and my cousin were going to try to make one for a local barbecue joint and I would very much appreciate any suggestions you could offer
that is a really cool set up. can you tell me a little bit more about the battery and plumbing system? I'm planning on using this same kind of set up for my plumbing and lighting
Batteries are marine deep cycle. Plumbing supply ran off a 1.6 gal a minute pump that was designed for 12volt use. Hot water tank is propane and self contained(camping shower heater). Sinks fed off a 5 gal bucket and drained to an 8 gal bucket. I built my own sinks out of pans, the kind you would have on a buffet line. Lot cheaper this way. That set up would cost $1200 in a restaurant store
Hi Burbbilly, thanks for sharing your cart! Really well thought out and full featured in a small space. A couple questions -- - Could you list in comments the refrigerator your using? - Did you consider building shade cover? - Does the trailer have lights? Again, very inspiring build, thanks!
+Matthew Watkins Hi Matthew! Thanks for the post/questions. The fridge is a Wytner, sold at homedepot.com they carry different sizes, I did consider shade cover, was thinking of some sort of roll out but ended up going with an easy up tent and yes the trailer has lights on it. I also ran light off the batteries when I was set up at night, I could light up my whole area and run lights to highlight my signs as well.
Monteon, thank you for the post. I do not have a printed instruction set, built this on the fly. If you watch the video and note the parts you should be able to duplicate it though. Everything is easily obtainable at your local stores or if needed online(the pump and water heater i purchased online)
Awesome job man love the trailer, just one thing I did notice was you didn’t have a fire extinguisher which would be very handy should anything go wrong.
Thank you, building this cart was an interesting journey for me. If you're thinking of building your own make sure you base it on where it will be used. A flea market or fair you will want something you can stand inside, and move easily. A street corner or parking lot a cart may be better. If you get stuck send me a message and I'll try and help. BurbBilly
This is what i need, any advice on building this would be much appreciated my wife and I are trying to start a street taco cart and I think this would be a perfect cart thank you
Hi Mike, If I had this to do over again I'd build it in an enclosed trailer or a truck/van that I could stand in and serve out of. This set up requires a few things around you to work off of. I ended up taking some folding tables with me to events for extra "counter space" and a tent to cover me from the sun/rain I did mainly flea markets and what I learned there is being mobile is important so keep that in mind with your build Reason for that is you need to move with the crowd sometimes. You may set up at an event and then people start to go home and the row you are in becomes a no mans land and a couple rows over there are still crowds of people. Being in a van you just drive over and find an open spot and keep on rockin out the tacos :-)
Hands down one of the nicest builds I've seen yet. I'm in the process of doing the same thing. Question what are the connections you used coming off of your water pump from the clear hose to connect to the regular water lines ? I bought the camplux on demand with quick connects and can not figure out how to run them to the faucet. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, this is amazing... Would you help me get some idea on how much would it cost me something really simple for cold cuts sandwiches? I will need a slicer, a fridge, a cutting board and a storage/show for the bread. Thank you in advance I appreciate your work
I set up two separate power systems. One I dedicated to the fridge/freezer and the other I ran to the exhaust fan and lights along with a GFCI plug that I used for external lighting to light my signs at night. The fridge would have run for at least 2 to 3 days on one charge depending on usage and the lighting and fan I ran for as long as 8 hrs and never had it fail. I used normal plug in the wall battery chargers to charge them. I am sure that you could use a solar panel set up to charge these if you needed to, when I purchased the fridge unit I saw a lot of comments on there from boaters who thought it was just the greatest thing. They were writing comments about how the could have ice for days out on the water as opposed to it melting in 2 to 3 days in a cooler. Some of the comments mentioned running a solar charging set up.
You're welcome Ed! Yea it is a small world(I'm near Elyria) I've had a lot of people reach out to me from this area. Have not run into a viewer in person yet but figure that's going to happen at some point lol That link I sent you was for the 65 qt I think the one I got was an 80 qt base it on your needs
Can you create some plans for this? What size trailer do you have? I have a 4 x 8. Sure would like to see the plumbing, electrical schematics even if they are hand drawn. And hook up for propane. Thanks
This was a modified 4x4 a 4x8 is much better make sure to get the weight balanced on your build so that you have it heavier in the front or it won't tow right. Sorry no plans I did this on the fly out of my head
herbert pearson What I'd do is get the sizes of all the stuff you want in it, go to the grocery store and get a bunch of free cardboard boxes, cut templates out matched to the things you want on your cart and lay them out on your garage floor. Stand in your templates and arrange them and then move between them and see how if feels. this will help you find flaws in your design and make your build a little easier and maybe save you a headache or two! lol I'm thinking if I have a stand in I'd probably need a 12 foot trailer...at least....but that's me. you may find something else that works for you but if you're going to go the trailer route then a 12 or 14 footer will probably be the easiest sized to locate and the price will be about the same. Hope this helped, take care. BurbBilly
Hello! I found your video while looking for ideas on the cart that I am planning on making, gave me a lot of ideas, was wondering if you had any advice for me? I'm trying to do something similar to what you'd done here in 2014
I'm 14 and thinking about buying a hot dog cart and then paying another person to work it for me most of the time. Do u think I will make any money from this or I should just work it myself on the weekends. And if I do decide to get a hotdog cart what do you think like all together the cost will be for like the first month including buying the used cart and getting permits.
Gabriel, First off, I'm really impressed that a kid your age is already thinking about setting up a business. Major props to you. I would say though that any business you decide to do you should probably do it yourself for at least a little while so you learn the ropes and understand what's going on. There is a lot more to a dog cart than just getting dogs. There are different size and quality dogs that you can purchase and you will most likely need to run through a vender if the business is good. a 10-1 dog is 10 dogs to a pound and an 8-1 dog is 8 dogs to a pound, venders will ask what you want. runs all the way down to a 2-1 dog i believe. Permits depend on where you will set up at and if you have someone working for you they have to take food safety classes(required in most areas). That's why it's best if you run it yourself at first. I would suggest running one at a local flea market on the weekends if you can and selling a cheap dog with maybe some chili and onions and condiments. Dont' get fancy as the flea market crowd is looking for deals. I learned a lot running the flea markets. As far as a start up cost if varies so much I'd dont have a straight answer for you. Cart could cost a couple grand or more used or you may get lucky and get a deal. Permits will be least of your cost
+The Burb Billy (The Burbbilly) thanks I was thinking about saving up the money to buy the cart and getting all the permits during the school year and than running it myself over the summer until I can find someone else to run it for me. And if I do get someone to help run it for me do u think my bisness will still be profitable?
You can rent some trucks but in some state you have to get a food handle certificate attend a class for maybe two hours watching a film. From the health department past the test based on the film get a medical exam from the doctor and get the truck or cart inspected by the fire department and city inspector before you can buy the permit it's a lot of work but it pays off you need the knowledge of food safety when dealing with the public so no one gets sick an sues you there are a lot of regulation you have to follow according to the health department or they can shut you down good luck but you may have to be 18 don't give up
ladysunshine37 I think it'd have to be an enclosed trailer if you were running fryers and depending on where you would set up at then you would either run electric or gas fed. For the ability to set up anywhere I'd go with something that runs on propane, but you would probably have to have a bigger exhaust fan.
Bob Drawson this would probably be a good size. The thing to decide is if you want to stand outside in the weather under an umbrella or if you want to be inside your cart and hand stuff out a window. Once you know that then you can lay out your cart plans and start the build! Good luck with your future Coffee Cart!
This is amazing! And exactly what I need... I am trying to build my own food prep area as well as cart so this is PERFECT!
!Super job Billy, this is the best video I've found. So so Helpful!
Stephen E Smith Thank you Stephen! Appreciate the feedback.
WOW! You did an excellent job building this! It looks so cool and I love how you have everything set up just perfectly--right down to the stability bar through the handle of the "Gander Mountain Jug." :) Thanks for taking the time to make this and upload it. I hope your business is doing great! :D Cheers from Morocco!
Jaime Brown I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the video and thank you for your kind comments. I really enjoyed making it and its been fun sharing it online and in real life. I get the feeling from the comments on here and the things said to me when I was selling food that people love to see a "homemade" cart that can perfrom against the manufactured and mass produced carts.
One of the (much) better designs and video productions I've seen on this stuff...NICE JOB!
Wayne Rodrigues Thanks Wayne!
Super tight, super clean design! You should put an affiliate link to the things you used, especially the freezer.
Your content is excellent, you deserve to get paid for your ideas.
I was just putting together raw prints for a food cart this morning and bam your video pops up! Looks like I was on the right track, your build is almost exactly what I had in mind. Awesome job buddy!
Great job, Homie!! Totally inspirational. One of the most efficient designs I've ever seen

This is great, I'm looking to build a starter dessert trailer for my wife, so she can sell her desserts at farmers market events, maybe event start catering. And this is a great reference blueprint using a harbor freight trailer

Love this food trailer..so cute. Thank you for sharing/upload this vdo.
Thanks Buddy!!! Very informative!! Will be using that setup!! "January 2023"
Very nice, I'm looking to build one out of an old popup camper and was having a hard time finding the cooler, thanks for the info, Chef Steve.
How did yours turn out? I'm about to do the same thing for a taco/bbq trailer.
I can't seem to find a cart locally that fits my needs, thank you so much for sharing this. I'm inspired to just build my own for the summer! I will most definitely keep in touch!

Thanks for your time and explanation!!great video
This is friggin dope. Looking for ideas for my kids. We are thinking of an icecream/Snow cone cart. Thanks
Great idea .. I’m looking into building one my self
thinking of doing this for a stir fry setup, some good ideas. I dont think I could pull it off though.
Jon Posadny dude, you can pull off whatever you want to. First, you are just gonna have to find some belief in yourself
Love your idea on how you build this trailer bro
Your a freaking genius
man thats the coolest cart , great idea, you should manufactor these .

very very nice and sharp food trailer, I like all your set-ups

Do u have plans
wow amazing cart man!!! me and my cousin were going to try to make one for a local barbecue joint and I would very much appreciate any suggestions you could offer

Hi Burbbilly, thanks for sharing your cart! Really well thought out and full featured in a small space. A couple questions --

Very nice! Estimated cost? So the health dept was ok with luann-sp? They usually ask for frp or stainless don't they?
Wow, glad I came across this. Blue prints available?
Yup im going to build one of these
I’m in the restaurant business and then hotel and I think that’s a great idea I hope you are selling those
Epic build
Outstanding video!
Thank you in advance I appreciate your work
Way cool! how long do the batteries last with the lights hood exhaust and the freezer going? What did you decide to use to charge the batteries?
That was excellent
Great job
Very nice food cart
May I ask what is the measurements of ur trailer.....
Thanx Mike.....
Good video the best food cart i seen!!
biggz baby Thanks biggz! Appreciate that!
Thanks for the link! ... I saw in one of your other videos that you are in Ohio, I'm just south of Akron (small world)
You're welcome Ed! Yea it is a small world(I'm near Elyria) I've had a lot of people reach out to me from this area. Have not run into a viewer in person yet but figure that's going to happen at some point lol That link I sent you was for the 65 qt I think the one I got was an 80 qt base it on your needs
I’d like information on the vent system and the vent on top please were I can find them
That is perfect I’d love to do this could you give me more detail to build this step by step the video is amazing
Sorry no plans I did this on the fly out of my head
what is the best size for a stand in food cart with grill, deep fryer, and steam table and freezer ?
herbert pearson What I'd do is get the sizes of all the stuff you want in it, go to the grocery store and get a bunch of free cardboard boxes, cut templates out matched to the things you want on your cart and lay them out on your garage floor.

Hello! I found your video while looking for ideas on the cart that I am planning on making, gave me a lot of ideas, was wondering if you had any advice for me? I'm trying to do something similar to what you'd done here in 2014
thank you sir...great informative video. god bless
+lee Williams Thanks Lee
This is awesome!!! Can I ask what it ran you to build?
Around $3500 Fridge and flat top were a big chunk of that
Still making money with it?
Do
You have plans for this cart? I want to build one.
And if I do get someone to help run it for me do u think my bisness will still be profitable?
gabriel Heskett did you get a hotdog cart yet?
You can rent some trucks but in some state you have to get a food handle certificate attend a class for maybe two hours watching a film. From the health department past the test based on the film get a medical exam from the doctor and get the truck or cart inspected by the fire department and city inspector before you can buy the permit it's a lot of work but it pays off you need the knowledge of food safety when dealing with the public so no one gets sick an sues you there are a lot of regulation you have to follow according to the health department or they can shut you down good luck but you may have to be 18 don't give up
work it yourself they rip u off
Very nice job!
Thank you! I put a lot of work into it. Appreciate the compliment.
This is awesome. How would you do it with fryers?
ladysunshine37 I think it'd have to be an enclosed trailer if you were running fryers and depending on where you would set up at then you would either run electric or gas fed. For the ability to set up anywhere I'd go with something that runs on propane, but you would probably have to have a bigger exhaust fan.
Nice food cart
great video!! I want to build a cart for making coffee..
Bob Drawson this would probably be a good size. The thing to decide is if you want to stand outside in the weather under an umbrella or if you want to be inside your cart and hand stuff out a window. Once you know that then you can lay out your cart plans and start the build! Good luck with your future Coffee Cart!
what is the brand name of the fridge/freezer? where did you get it?
great cart thanks
herbert pearson Thanks Herbert!
May I ask about how much money it took to build this?
Dude I need this.
Sir how much to build one like this one?
Think you could convert this to make it a bike food cart?
