    I stripped the speaker wires and connected them to there corresponding wires on the rca. I also took out the amp from the factory sub enclosure. And completely hidden the amp assembly. Love the setup!! Working perfectly. I also used a SmartThings smart plug to turn off the sub when it’s not receiving signal from the amp when the soundbar is turned off.

      @samyech889, it depends on the space. It may do well in smaller spaces but struggle in bigger spaces like an open concept house. There's no way my Samsung sub could achieve 20% of the bass the 12" Klipsch is outputting now after the modification.

      That's adventurous! My advice is to use active (powered) speakers as the soundbar may not have enough power for passives.

    Hey my friend I have the 990c and I’m reverting my living room back to just a surround sound and soundbar setup because I had a full home theater system setup but had my receiver die on my so I decided I didn’t want to complicate things anymore and just wanted to go with the 990c. I have this working on my Klipsch R-12SW…It really does require a line level converter to convert from speaker wire taps on the Samsung to RCA in on the sub…I tried it both ways, with and without the converter…Without the converter the bass is bloated and muddy and I have to keep the gain below 1…With the converter the bass is clean, not bloated or muddy and I can increase the gain to 2-3…It makes sense to me that this solution would require a converter to get accurate bass reproduction.

    Great work on expanding the availablility of additional bass. The only issue I see here is if there is any processing from the amp used to tune the frequency response of the original sub. For the rear side speakers, ceiling speakers and subwoofer, at first thought, I was thinking their powerful will be reduce by half or more because they have been tap and share watts with each other. But after listening to those speakers, they sound very powerful too. It is very amazing. Why they are still sound so powerful? Isn’t it is like for example the USB power adapter stated 20 watts and has two changing port, if we charge one phone, it has the full 20 watts charge, but when we add another phone to charge, it is divide by half and provide 2 x 10 watts for both phones, isn’t it this way?

      Your theory is correct. Some amps would struggle to adequately power parallel speakers due to the lower impedance, but not the amps in the Q990C. But the lower impedance lowers distortion and is usually louder, except the speakers can be a bit more power-hungry.

      Nevermind.. it was my fault. I apparently moved one of the wires from the speaker terminals when I moved the Samsung sub into position. I made sure both negative and positive were reconnected and held it in with electrical tape and connected the speaker wire to the SVS adapter and from there a blue jeans shielded RCA cable to LFE and it almost works too well with Klipsch R-112SW.

    Hi. Thanks for the great idea.
    I have the same sound bar but did the installation a bit diferent than what you did here.
    I used the same subwoffer imput from inside the samsung sub and plugged in a wire(speaker wire + ,-) from the samsung sub to my Klipsch SW350 subwoofer high line imput on the back.
    You can use only one Channel since they are both conected on the inside.
    This way you dont mess with the impedance or overheat the samsung subwoofer amp since the newly added Klipsch sub wont add or substract anything from its original load.
    Iine will only be used as a high level signal.
    Btw paid 30$ for the sub used on FB Marketplace and it turbed this soundbar into a Beast.
    Turned the bass all the way down to 40hz
    And the gain is at 1/4 volume.
    Anything more and it will rattle the windows next to the wall and or overpower the whole thing.

      Good suggestion. The reason I didn't use the converter is because I used the LFE input on the sub. Usually, a sub will treat the RCA connection as a full range stereo source. Please allow my one question, to make sure I understand everything correctly. The Samsung system is 656 W. The Subwoofer you chose has 200W continues and 400W Peak. One would think that this is working because the power specs of the Sub is less than the Samsung system. BUT, is it true that in theory the Sub could be ANYTHING, as in 3000 Watts continous and 4000 Watts Peak because it has ITS OWN amplifier and gets its power from the Wall anyways, Right? The "tap" as you call it, is ONLY to receive the Low Frequency INFORMATION from the Samsung Subwoofer and nothing power related. Right? Thanks in advance. I was thinking on adding a 14inch Sub.

      @@rafars2246 I think the subwoofer box in the Samsung q990d model is designed incorrectly. Let's change the subwoofer unit so that the subwoofer and air outlet ports face us by taking the box in the svs pb16 ultra model as a reference, then we will get better quality bass sounds. For example, if the factory system vibrates the seat 7 units when a bomb explodes, this will reach 10 units after the cabinet change. The factory product has a wrong design with a subwoofer facing the side and an air port facing the wall from the back. In addition, since the box volume is small, it cannot create enough volume. In other words, there is no need to buy an additional subwoofer. Just change the box. I am in favor of the q990d being sufficient even in halls up to 100 m². Those who want more professional sound and cinema quality can create systems like real 5+1, 7+1, 7.1.2, 7.1.4 7.1.6. Those who prefer bass can buy 2 subwoofers, and the choice is up to them. But if I were to take myself as a reference, I have a 40 m² living room. The sound of the q990d is sufficient. I think it will be sufficient even if I move to a larger house in the future. But I always dream of professional systems.

    I have zero knowledge with electronics, so I have two questions - if you could do something differently about the mod (let’s say money are not an issue), what would you change (except getting different speaker set LOL)?, what subwoofer model would you get, and why, and how would you connect it?
    Another question - can you just plug Klipsh directly to the soundbar, so basically replace samsungs inferior sub? Wouldn’t that be easier/better? Cheers!

    • @nh-tech

      Starting from your last question, yes, you can do that but you'll need to remove the amp module together with the wireless module from the Samsung sub and connect it directly to the speaker in the new sub.
      Given that my setup is working perfectly, I probably wouldn't change anything. Lol. The Klipsch is good, but I would probably get the SVS pro series with better quality, wider frequency range, and better controls.

      Yes and no. The Samsung amp is feeding the speaker; let us say 4 ohms. Depending on how the amp is designed, it may not be able to handle the higher/lower olms of adding another speaker (depending if you were to wire it in series or paraelle) into the chain. Though wiring in series + to - is USUALLY safe it will double the olms, y ou will have less amp ouput. Also the speakers will be out of phase (which maybe a good thing for bass) so have to be careful about bass cancellation so subwoofer placement will be more critical. @@sedrickransom6904

      That sounds like there may be a problem with your sub. Does it do that when you use it with a different system, or only with the Q990C?

    • @nh-tech
      @nh-tech  10 місяців тому +2

      @hunterjones9209 There is always some unassumed risk. Based on my hypothesis and experience, the risk of damage to the Samsung sub is almost nonexistent as long as the wiretapping is done well (not leaving naked wires), and the external sub is active (powered). The tap is a parallel connection, so resistance is low. I have tested my theory with another soundbar (Sony), and it is also working perfectly.

    • @nh-tech
      @nh-tech  10 місяців тому +3

      It could be a problem if the amplified signal was only going to the Klipsch. But because the Samsung speaker is drawing power from the amplified signal, it weakens the power going to the Klipsch.

      Hi, Mr. Electronics Expert - the amp in the Samsung sub is rated 26W and you want me to use that to power a 400W driver? In another comment, you said to replace it with a new sub: from where? Do you realize you cannot just wirelessly pair another subwoofer to another soundbar? You again said that soundbars are not for large spaces: does that mean you shouldn't own a soundbar if you live in an open-concept floor plan? Better still, have you seen the Nakamichi shockwafe and Drangon? How about Sonos Arc, which allows for additional sub? I appreciate your concern, but what you know is not the only way. The basis for knowledge is so that you can think outside the box, when necessary.
