Inside The FBI's Files On John Lennon

- John Lennon is one of the most famous and beloved figures of the 20th century. Even more than his Beatles compatriots Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney, Lennon embraced his role as a world figure and tried to use it to make a difference. Alongside his wife Yoko Ono, Lennon pushed for peace and togetherness.
But that made him a target of the U.S. government under President Richard Nixon, who had FBI director J. Edgar Hoover wage a campaign of harassment and fear to try and undermine Lennon's influence and political effectiveness. All the weird and shameful details hide inside the FBI's files on John Lennon.

What do you think about John Lennon?
Legend
@@anemaldemomusic8182 I agree
My least favorite Beatle. But definitely a musical genius. He seemed like he'd be hard to deal with
I don't miss him at all
He’s my hero! his words have never been forgotten nor will they be forgotten!
Love Is The Answer, And You Know That For Sure!
Thats bollocks
It would be lovely if everyone could learn to love. I do believe good will win over evil. Maybe one day.
John wasn't married to Yoko in '67 (the summer of love). The events you refer to were in '69...
They had been together since 1966 though and considered themselves husband and wife...
@@dcluvspie5777 yes but they didn’t stay in bed for their honeymoon until 1969
@@dcluvspie5777 no they meet each other in 1966 once and then meet each other a few more times but then at the end of 1967 he fell in love with her and tried to get as close with her as possible in early 1968 then when he went to India it had become clear he needed her, so when he got back they got together and they were always right next to each other and got married in 1969
Yoko's facial structures are similar to John's, that's weird.
I have copies of the several FBI files on John Lennon and the files on the other members of the Beatles. The U.S. government really was afraid of Lennon's influence and pacifist ideology spreading throughout much of America. The files are an interesting read. About a decade ago, a full length movie went into the contents of some parts of the formerly Secret FBI files.
Can you get those online? I’d like to check those out.
@@robiandolo The released FBI files on John Lennon and others are available online. The FBI website has an FOIA section. That is a good place to start by using keywords, live "John Lennon", "Yoko Ono", and "Beatles". Remember, there are usually a plurality of files under each keyword . Nixon seemed fearful of Lennon's activist position on pacifism because it could derail the peace negotiations in Paris with North Vietnam. It was a complicated mess and Nixon seemed increasingly paranoid, especially prior to and during the Watergate scandal.

THE U.S. VERSUS JOHN LENNON
Well, with a divide and conquer market economy that invented different human races, does it surprise anyone
Married in 1969, not 67
Make love not war has never been forgotten!!! nor has John Lennon been forgotten!!!

Who?
Legend John
The 'summer of love was in 1967. Lennon's and Ono's marriage and bed-in was in 1969.
Extreme paranoia about the 1960's youth culture.
Fascists tend to do that when they feel their pathetic control and power is threatened
They also had files on Helen Keller and John Denver. John fvcking Denver. Wth
As well as Jean seberg
All this stuff about Lennon being a wife beater. A radical. How many people go through phases in their life? Bad or worse then change their lives or beliefs for the better? Because life is a learning process. I think John Lennon was in a good place when he died. He had opened up communications with his eldest son, Julian, loved his adopted city and home, semi retired to domestic life, then went back to music and produced some great songs. I think he learned alot of lessons in his life and left this world a better place. His fans and music are proof of that.
Well said my friend
According to his first wife Cynthia's Autobiography. He was a wife beater., and quotes a specific occasion. when they were at a club, with friends, and John punched Cynthia in the face, after she danced with a mutual friend. '''I'm just a Jealous Guy'' ?
Her book said he slapped her. Im sure it was more than once but she probably didnt want to sound like a fool for staying with someone who used to slap her around. What would have happened if he slapped Yoko? She would have cast a spell on him or give him some rotten drink to make him sick (so says May Pang when Yoko gave him something awful to drink and he was sick for days) @@MrDaiseymay
I absolutely agree with you. John was not perfect, nor was he the demon people wilfully and meanly put forward. Besides, it's his creativity and talent I admire the most. And his wish for world peace and promotion of love. He had his demons but believed that love was the answer - and I agree.
"He was a man, take him for all in all: I shall not look upon his like again". 😔
Who said that?

@@tomobedlam297 thank you sir
The fact the FBI knew where the daughter was and didn’t follow thru, though the Lennon’s had legal custody is kind of cruel
Meanwhile, as our government worries about a musical legend, tons of kidnappings, rapes and clergy abuse went unseen at this time.
Thanks for the video
the Bed-In was 1969
It was, and Nixon’s inauguration was in ‘69 too.
Times and dates get messed with a lot in this genre of videos.
@@juanamigo they said 67 when they meant 69
Subtitles say 1969.
Another good read...the letters and post cards sent to each other...or among the inner circle...
Brilliant musician, revolutionary. Anything you hear today is because of Lennon\McCartney.
AH HAAA!! no.
Quiet a bit though, they definitley changed the culture of America when they arrived
Wish he'd been deported. Then he would've gone back to Britain where he could have been with his family, said whatever he wanted, and probably would have never gotten shot
LOL they have less freedom of speech there than we do here dumb ass people get arrested in the UK every day for facebook posts you are very ill informed man.

@@ethanwoolnough9399 Yea because guns don't exist in the U.K. criminals always aquire items through official means. And you're right the FBI or CIA or whoever couldn't have followed him to the U.K. a country that co-operates with U.S. law enforcement daily.
Hi,. I'm from Liverpool, John was a tipical Old school Scouser later on, middle class upbringing by Aunt mimmi, mixed with alot of characters did john in Liverpool, it was a melting pot back then, (still is ) Dockers, Chinese, Black people, rich and alot of poor people, Irish folk, took it all in, when in USA John spoke up about things, thing is upset alot of misguided powerful people, was he killed by American establishment assassin ( brainwashed by CIA ) don't know myself, was on his way back to England I believe probably would spoken up about Thatcher (politian) and what she had planned for parts of UK...oh yea especially LIVERPOOL, which deep down he knew he wanted to help and inspire, peace and love.🎸🇬🇧🇺🇸
That the had files on him is ridiculous! He was a performer with ideas, and so are lots of people! He was not dangerous!
You just gave the reason they had files! He had ideas! This is relevant today your ideas are wrong, our ideas are right! That’s the deep state position.
@@robiandolo Also they don't want you to think for yourself. THEY tell you you what to think.
They trampled on his first amendment rights for years. I don't like that shit

John was my favorite Beatle before ono
All we are saying is give peas a chance. That's the famous lyric we use on our girls to get them to eat peas.
Lennon was ok but personally had zero use for Yoko.
Then why did he marry her he left his first wife for her
@@cindyfedack317 Because guys do stupid things when smitten. lol
She first had her sights on Paul ...who wanted nothing to do with her .she found a rich Beatle to help with her so called art and career ..
@@bobbybishop8426 That's a piss poor excuse. You have a hate on for Yoko and to me that is insulting John. She obviously had talent and was a great influence over John. I don't think he was that stupid. I am sure he would have figured her out during the first year or so that they knew each other.

The bed in was 1969 not 1967.
It’s funny how politicians and bankers are so concerned about nations being at peace with one another. Obviously this stops them from profiting, hating one another is just going along with their game. RIP John Lennon
Thirty seconds in you say the "bed in"happened in 1967. It happened in 69. Hmmmmm.
Yes.
why do they always have to have the blurring racket music playing in the none background all the time?
You can't even get the date of their bed-in correct and by linking Vietnam to it you are also getting all the events linked to its date wrong. So how are we supposed to trust your research on the rest of this video?
Hi there
What is the background song of this video?
Just a crazy Lone gunman tho....
@Kevin Purdy what facts do you have to back this up
apparently so
Yeah, if John's murder were investigated,it would just end up another warren report story and the lone gunman scenario.
Let all go.

I thought that out of my bed piece and all that quite interesting can anyone else buy it?
next to zero info on what the files said...
Pretty sure that 69 not 67.
If Nixon deported him he would still be alive.
Perhaps Nixon had the foresight knowing that Lennon was in trouble if he stayed in the US and he thought sending him back to England safe and sound would save his life... 🤔
Hmmm. They made a movie about Richard Nixon meeting Elvis Presley but not Nixon against John Lennon.
United States vs John Lennon
Yeah, Nixon ask Elvis to watch that John Lennon.lol that's really funny.....Elvis is the one that died of his drug overdose......Poor, Fat Man !
Elvis is an American and served his country when he was drafted. John Lennon should have stayed the out of American politics. He was and is a festered asshole
Wasn't married in 1967..that was 1969
What does the ‘67 summer of love have to do with any of this? Nixon was elected in ‘68 and took office in ‘69. The same year John & Yoko were married and had multiple bed ins.
I really wonder what Lennon´s opinion would be about all the crazy stuff we now see culturally and in politics. Yoko Ono and the two remaining Beatles are mum on the subject. Mc Cartney did go so far as to claim Obama as the greatest president ever. WTF!
FBI call me but not away
Read Jon Wieners books 📚 Was a special quest at. LA Beatlefest. The Blue Meanie lost.
Please read this. Hoover had a THING about John Lennon, but Hoover died in 1972. Other people at the CIA and FBI also had a thing about Lennon. At the time, it was stated that Mark David Chapman, told police that The Catcher in The Rye told him to shoot John Lennon. In 1980, I was 21 years old, and my grandmother had a SIGNED copy of J.D. Salinger's "Catcher in The Rye". Mr. Salinger was a long time friend of my CIA family. He was the founder of CIC (Counter Intelligence Corp) recruited by my grandfather William S. Paley, Google and read about both men. As I later found out, this book and others Salinger wrote had MESSAGES in the print (microdots that you can't see) to tell other operatives to kill. These are true words I speak, even though the CIA rectorus holes don't like it, come an get me.....Lennon's widow may know this, but would never speak it PUBLICLY, but I will. Bothe Paley and Salinger put their BACK UP RECORDS in microdots in their books...there I have said my peace...
Cannabis was at the center of all of this. Think about it. At least it was the scapegoat.
John just didn’t like authority in general, stemming from his childhood and the snobby class-oriented culture in England. He went thru a lot of phases. By the late 70s he shrugged off his former activism as young but naive idealism, like so many other kids from the 60s.
That authority illegally trampled his first amendment rights. Hope they don't follow u and tap ur phones for your presidential preferences
Imagine... it's a utopia of the mind of an irresponsible and immature child !!!
So John Lennon was Based as fuck neat....
Also notice in this video at about 10:04 the trad centers and the yellow fabric blinders in the middle, where one of the planes would later hit. Come and kill me FBI
i still like the Beatles they are cool
And the biggest file, that he was the most contradictory and abusive hypocrite. The same guy who professed "peace and love" was the same guy who abused Julian and his mother, and got into many bar fights. Yeah. Imagine that.
he preached for love and peace after he realized what he is doing is wrong, people can change y'know
John was deeply flawed but aren’t we all? I agree he didn’t always live his personal life in the same message as he portrayed to the public but he did far more good than evil and continues to inspire a generation of kids to be better to this day 40 years after his death. I think that deserves some recognition
I assume that you have regrets for what you have done in your past, or currently doing? People learn, and grow, realizing our past behaviors should not be tolerated. So yes, what Mr. Lennon did/may have done, in his past, should not be overlooked. But I am sure, with the help of his family, friends, and therapy sessions, he would have done his best to reflect and eventually correct?
This is a condition that many are doomed to repeat after they have suffered the same thing themselves. You really have to be there to really know but I think that it wasn't so much abuse as neglect.
You can see a change in his character directly after he does acid with George
Was John ever unaccompanied by a camera crew?
gov't. wet work?

I guess it’s ok to express political views in pop music, but I personally don’t care for it anymore. It becomes propaganda and I really don’t care to hear it in music.
@Gary Spinelli Tell that to Bono...
You guess it's ok? And where would appropriate be if not in music? Propaganda for Peace, now that is something I can get behind!
Music is a personal form of expression from the artist, if you can’t share feelings, thoughts and ideas in ART where can you share it?!

WTF is it about Chicago? These guys are the same people who brought Obama to prominence. Lennon got snookered.
Never liked him as a person, sure he was a great song writer. But when he married Yolo. He went off the wall.
They were both narcissists.
Achieving little but claiming to have done more.
It’s pretty lame really. The weakest musician in a legendary band showing no real talent but an ability to manipulate people into believing he was some kind of messianic figure.
Weakest musician? Lol okay guy. John was all over the place and complicated. He had a revolutionary phase but towards the late 70s he shrugged it off as a phase when he was young, like many 60s kids. Believe it or not he liked Reagan and met him once in ‘75.
Weakest musician? Your perspective is screwed. Lennon/McCartney are song writing legends! All four of The Beatles are legends for what they accomplished in music around the world.
