Huge mistake at the toss on this one. Look at the number of times the Aussies have won the toss or been put into bat first & won the game. They are an incredible side, very talented, but more often than not, luck is on their side.

Cam Green’s big ton was the difference in this match but sooner or later they will need to find a couple of openers. Khawaja is 37 and Smith 35 this year. If it’s not to be Renshaw or Harris and Pucovski’s health problems prevent him from being selected, then the selectors need to look elsewhere. Not sure who’s scoring runs in Sheffield Shield cricket but those openers slots will be up for grabs soon.
Yeah we’re only getting replays because it was a very short day. NZ were bundled out. There should always be a replay or two of wickets, and sometimes an amazing shot or close call, but not every single boundary. It’ll be back to rubbish in the second test
Lyon had a "Day at the Races" but really apart from some undisciplined bowling and fielding which can happen to the best sides, NZ just needed Phillips, Ravindra or Mitchell to go on and do as Green did and the match could have been a superb contest. As mentioned Southee and Williamson were off the boil and Kuggeleijn and O'Rourke could not fill in for Southee, even if the batsmen did their level best to contribute as much as Williamson. Perhaps the emotion surrounding Wagner was telling, but what is RIDICULOUS is a 2-match series as both teams deserve the chance of an outright win.
