I almost need a video showing someone booting it up for the first time to figure out where it lies between the pc gaming and console gaming worlds. I personally like being able to go to any website, listen to spotify, or stream on the same system as I'm gaming on. How much this fits that pc mold will determine how much I enjoy it (and potentially a future purchase). I was stoked seeing a system similar to a nintendo switch, able to play my favorite games, with a mouse that I've always wanted someone to design. Edit - Nvm I'm sold I saw the flash of a pc desktop screen at arround 10:44. That's enough to convince me it's still a PC.
Awesome video Bill!! The FPS mode on the controllers actually looks pretty smooth and that screen looks gorgeous even on video - stoked to see the benchmark results.
FINALLY, THANK YOU! I’m surprisingly off of work tomorrow, so I think I’m gonna stop by my local micro center and get the 2TB upgraded model! I’m so excited!
When it comes to these handhelds, a VRR screen is good for games where the fps won't go high enough as the screen refresh rate. So let's say 40fps looks WAY smoother on a VRR screen than 40fps on a non-VRR screen. A high refresh rate screen means nothing when you're playing a very demanding game at 40fps, but VRR shines in this scenario, however. That's why I consider the Rog Ally a better contender to this, in the screen department ofc.
Doesn’t quite work that way. VRR just syncs the refresh rate of the screen to what the gpu is producing. This helps because if they aren’t in sync you have to wait for the actual screen refresh as well. When out of sync it can produce screen tearing, jutter, and a feeling of choppiness. That being said if you cap your frame rate at a setting you know is always achievable and it’s divisible by your max refresh rate you can have a similar consistency. Where VRR helps is when you have inconsistent frame rate. So you are running a game between 50-70 fps depending on load. It will generally feel smooth. However this is a fairly large swing and the response time time still might be noticeable.
I thought you could force native pc titles via custom resolutions from graphics driver? that's a bummer, i thought could run 800p as the rule minus some exceptions, but you are saying its actually vice versa ?@@provis83

The screen resolution and 144 Hertz refresh rate seems overkill for a handheld. But what do I know 🤷 I'm still happy with my steam deck, but if I didn't have a gaming handheld yet, I would probably get this one. For now, I'm holding out for an 8000 series APU so it's a substantial performance upgrade.
I think the screen resolution is fine because the screen is so big, but the refresh rate is really high, and honestly I'll just stick it at 60 most of the time anwyay.
love my steam deck but my old eyes need a bigger screen so gonna get a Legion Go but i do not want one from the first batch, even steam had issues with the first run of Decks and i do not expect the Legion will be any different
I am thoroughly disappointed that the screen is 144hz. Because 120hz is objectively better for handhelds. Since we can only achieve butter-smooth frame pacing when the FPS is an exact division of the refresh rate, this means the Legion Go can only get smooth pacing at 72, 48, and 36 fps. If the screen were 120hz, we’d instead have smooth pacing at 60, 40, and 30fps, which are more standard and support emulation a lot better. 120hz would’ve been perfect and we wouldn’t even need to switch to 60hz manually. 120hz would also mean it wouldn’t be necessary to have per-game refresh rate settings. Just lock the fps in-game to 30, 40, or 60 and that’s it. What a HUGE missed opportunity by Lenovo.
That was a great review. Most reviews that I’ve seen are just all going over the same thing but you went deep and talked about the controls and what buttons do what and when you turn it into FPS mode what button does what. That was a great video, good job I look forward to watching more!!!
Most informative review so far! Sadly, the part where gyro doesn't work when detached is such a silly oversight.. Personally, I am holding off for a revision or maybe a 3rd party controller that would allow me to play shooters without using this gimmicky fps mode. It may work for some and may be good in niche cases, but I'd 100% rather have gyro in the right pad. Seems like lenovo needed a unique selling point and they've done this just for the sake of it.
Looks really clean and neat. I have the ally and due to $$$ I’ll just be sticking with that. I have no issues with it at all now I’m use to it. But this is great competition, hopefully more pc handhelds come out and really push the companies to do better and for Microsoft to release a handheld version of windows for these devices.
Personally, I think the steam deck hits that sweet spot of not being too complicated or too basic when it comes to controller layout. On top of that windows on a handheld is still not there yet.
Just say you're a SD meatrider and keep it pushing. I too own a SD but you SD crusaders come off so insecure sometimes. Competition is good. SD will have more and more competitors on the market. The Legion Go isn't complicated. It's feature dense. Get over yourself.
@@Etridamu Are you okay? All they said was that they prefer the Steam Deck and you go in full defense. You act as insecure are the "SD Crusaders" you're portraying.
Appreciate the thought where you tackle the experience what the most user will do (who will not debloat the windows and just buy the device and install the games they want.) Really well thought of this. Thank you.
Somebody may have already said this, but QHD refers to "quad HD" as in 4x 720p or "HD"...in other words QHD refers to 1440p resolution and to my knowledge there is no existing moniker for the 16:10 aspect ratio.
Shame about the gyro being in the tablet. Other than that I think I'm sad. I almost purchased an ROG Ally to replace my Ayaneo 2 but I'm glad I held off.
Excellent review. My big hope and dream for this handheld is to have it be the ultimate to go Xbox. As an Xbox user, I’ve been wanting to get into the portable PC game since I believe Xbox titles are shared with Windows 11 devices. By the sounds of it, that’s exactly what it is. Would you disagree?
Thank you for the good video😁 I'm curious about the battery. I've seen several videos related to Legion go, but there's no word on how much it runs, only talking about the battery capacity. I think batteries are an important selling factor. How is the battery time? If it's forbidden to comment, please leave three heart emojis😂😅
Interesting review thanks. I'm thrilled by this Lenovo handheld... Still holding tight to my SD but I'm happy to see more of these. And it looks like Lenovo did a fairly good job regarding the design and functionality. Let's see how the support will be for the next year. And what mods/repairs can be done to it (cause imo, that's what seems to keep the SD way above competitors).
looks amazing. i love the mouse integration into the controller. i would dual boot this into the steam deck os. software sleeping not working is a deal breaker. its not really portable if you cant travel with it in sleep mode. i already have a steam deck and enjoy it when im waiting for class. sometimes i watch movies on it and its not that bad. its better than gaming on a laptop, and definitely lasts longer than a gaming laptop. at least its repairable, unlike most modern laptops.
i am incredibly worried about the legion goes build quality, as lenovo has a very dodgy track record. for example, lots of their laptops have issues with the hinges that cause them to stiffen up and break through the plastic shell when they finally seize. this has been a major issue with their products for years, and looking at other reviews, the joycons and their various mechanisms seem like serious weak points
Im getting the 512gb model because im going to upgrade the drive to 2tb anyway. Honestly 1tb isn't enough either so I'd rather save that 50 and put towards a 2tb ssd.
Right? I would have to do a little searching for 2tb 2242 drives but they shouldn't be to much more then $50 so save the cash and go for the smaller drive if you plan on swapping it day one anyways
Needs at least 32GB of RAM so that one can allocate a decent amount of VRAM for textures. Steam Big Picture Mode works very well on all these handhelds, so no need for vendor-specific launchers.
Ain't no way the speakers on this thing sound good without some OS modification. I had to install Dolby Atmos or fxsound on it for the speakers to sound decent. Along with editing the Realtek Audio Console settings. Btw, the Soundcore VR P10 headphones are PERFECT for this device.
Makes 0 sense to release this video hours before the Embargo.. Could you not have waited a few hours and included benchmarks and other information that is blocked by the embargo.. Also would have helped to have it in hand a bit more than 12 hours. If one had it in hand for 24 hours instead, the first impression "Review" (title) would have made a bit more sense, and the embargo could have been a non-issue so footage of games could have Fps/temps/power usage etc. This isn't Linus Tech Tips with a rush to get the video out asap, a simple extra day (12 hours worth till the morning of the 31st when embargo lifts) would have been ideal. That aside the video was quality. @2:25 It's 7500 mhz of LPDDR5X not LDDPR5X. LP= Low Power, DDR= Double Data Rate.
Yo the edits on this video are next level Great music and transitions Also yes I can’t wait to get my hands on the legion go. The screen is the biggest factor for me. Everything else is cool
Cool video! Price high, but I can see why. For me I think the most important is the UI experience and workablity with steam. Looking forward to more videos of this!
This looks like a great device. The only problem i have is key bindings. It doesn't seem to be able to change the bindings on the device itself. Yes it can be done within game but ... Is this something that may be added later within the UI? Can it be done in Steam's controller configurator? Also it would have been nice to have that second touchpad but that i can overlook. Otherwise this looks like a really fun device. I have a midrange PC at the house. I barely turn it on since i got my Deck. I'm not much of a graphics or fps snob. This like a pretty good step up. And without the compatibility or anticheat issues that the Deck has. Honestly not worried about the ecosystem too much (except for the performance tab). I just going to go into Big Picture Mode probably. Very exciting 🎉
Hello! Thank you for the video. I had a question. Can I use the steam deck dock with this device? I feel like if it fits well and the cord lines up it would be a pretty solid dock. Can't wait to get my hands on this really cool looking piece of tech.

Just say you're a SD meatrider and keep it pushing. I too own a SD but you SD crusaders come off so insecure sometimes. Competition is good. SD will have more and more competitors on the market.
The Legion Go isn't complicated. It's feature dense. Get over yourself.
@@EtridamuRemember kid, the one who is angry, is angry at himself.
@@Etridamujust say your a legion meat rider and push on
@@Etridamu Are you okay? All they said was that they prefer the Steam Deck and you go in full defense. You act as insecure are the "SD Crusaders" you're portraying.
Hey Etridamu, might want to look in the mirror their pal, you're being rude in my comment section, that isn't welcome here.
Hand held beast then you got a tablet and goes to mouse mode too. Wow with a build in stand.
Too cool
Great job got the first in-depth English speaking review! Most have been a lot of time crunching work!
Yes it was!
Appreciate the thought where you tackle the experience what the most user will do (who will not debloat the windows and just buy the device and install the games they want.)
Really well thought of this. Thank you.
Somebody may have already said this, but QHD refers to "quad HD" as in 4x 720p or "HD"...in other words QHD refers to 1440p resolution and to my knowledge there is no existing moniker for the 16:10 aspect ratio.
That's one of the best video reviews I've ever seen. All of these details!
Thank you for the good video😁
I'm curious about the battery.
I've seen several videos related to Legion go, but there's no word on how much it runs, only talking about the battery capacity.
I think batteries are an important selling factor.
How is the battery time?
If it's forbidden to comment, please leave three heart emojis😂😅
Lenovo will need to instal a cam in the Legion Go in order to take advantage of the intake valves.
This might be the most underrated UA-cam channel I’ve ever witnessed
Thank god finally a good look at this System love your channel great first look thanks.
I've noticed you've upped your presentation in your latest videos. Looks good!
Im getting the 512gb model because im going to upgrade the drive to 2tb anyway. Honestly 1tb isn't enough either so I'd rather save that 50 and put towards a 2tb ssd.
I know that one i have 4tb in mine
Right? I would have to do a little searching for 2tb 2242 drives but they shouldn't be to much more then $50 so save the cash and go for the smaller drive if you plan on swapping it day one anyways
@Montisaquadeis They have a 2242 2tb o. Newegg for 97 dollars on Newegg. Nvme. Cheapest one I could find. Yeah you not getting no 2tb for 50 lol.
Thank you! The only person giving air time to the gyro.
This Legion Go review is THE BEST detailed review on UA-cam now. Thank you for the review :)
Great review. I really want to see how COD DMZ plays on this compared to the Ally. I'm trying to decide between the two. I love the Legion Go more.
Very similarly. Maybe a bit better on the go since the ram is faster.
Either way it won’t be much of a difference.
What about the performance????
Hooray! Can’t wait to see what you have to say about this one!!!
Needs at least 32GB of RAM so that one can allocate a decent amount of VRAM for textures.
Steam Big Picture Mode works very well on all these handhelds, so no need for vendor-specific launchers.
Great video! Attention to detail is amazing. Gyro not being able to emulate a mouse is disappointing. Makes it less useful for FPS games.
Lol but it becomes a mouse tho. 🐁 it's the whole point of it
Ain't no way the speakers on this thing sound good without some OS modification.
@2:25 It's 7500 mhz of LPDDR5X not LDDPR5X. LP= Low Power, DDR= Double Data Rate.
Yo the edits on this video are next level
Great music and transitions
Also yes I can’t wait to get my hands on the legion go. The screen is the biggest factor for me. Everything else is cool
Happy about the competition in the handheld market
dude you can do serious damage with that thing if somebody threaten you
Finally some legion go videos are coming up! was that sonic origins plus while testing the sound?
Cool video! Price high, but I can see why. For me I think the most important is the UI experience and workablity with steam. Looking forward to more videos of this!
That vertical mouse concept won't work for intense FPS game...but it's a cool touch !
You can change the mapping of the buttons.
is this your own go or given by lenovo for review?
Hello! Thank you for the video. I had a question. Can I use the steam deck dock with this device? I feel like if it fits well and the cord lines up it would be a pretty solid dock. Can't wait to get my hands on this really cool looking piece of tech.
Surely for quick settings this should be the first menu that appears when you press the Legion R button? Clue would be in the name of the menu.
for the downside usb port I really think that Lenovo is planning to release a specific docking solution... let see.
Im impressed by your dedication to detail in this video great work 🎉
This will be my first time buying something like this. I just want to know, do you download games like your phone? Like they have their own store?
The only store you need is called Steam
I like the Legion design since its easy to replace the controllers like Switch.
Do controllers jiggly wiggly
I see Project Warlock gameplay, I automatically press the like button
Love this review, very intrigued by this device and maybe someday I'll get my hands on one but I already own a steam deck so I doubt it haha
Thanks Bill!! Gotta say I am interested, yet I am not a tech savvy but I don't know if VRR is a must on device nowadays or don't have to.
I hope to never have to enable those fans at full speed. By the sound it, makes me wonder if my battery is going drain extremely fast.
QHD is actually just double the resolution of FHD. Nothing to do with aspect ratio
SD -> HD -> FHD -> QHD -> UHD
I was thinking of QHD+. I just left the plus off.

Good video. I'll subscribe. Question: Can you customize the buttons in FPS mode? For instance, can I map one to F1 for Destiny 2?
Komm von Reddit 😃 danke für dein Video so macht man Reviews ich bin gespannt auf das deep Dive! Abo ist raus ! Grüße aus Deutschland
