Your reviews are accurate brother! I’m a big dude; 6’3” weigh around 93Kegs but on roughly the same litres as you (I’ve got a few more years of youth). Was thinking about a RT but likely going to go for the shadow XL for next winter
Reply off my phone doesnt seem to show up so sorry if this is a repeat. I've kept the Red Tiger and just replaced my old Shadow XL with a new one. Exactly same dims. So glad I have that board and treat it like a step up for 4 foot plus waves with juice. My RNF96 is good for average waves up to 4ft and the Red Tiger for good waves in the 2 - 4ft range. Had it out today in juicy 5 - 6ft Piha and it wasn't handling it so went in and got my Shadow XL.
Hi, I love the Shadow. I had one in 6’1 and it was great, very easy paddle and instant speed after take off. Now I have ordered a Sharpeye Inferno 72 but I think I’m gonna order also a Shadow XL in 5’11
What’s your thoughts on getting a carbon shadow if they are available? I love the new tech coming out, but very pricey. I just love the feeling of a p/u under the feet.
I've heard Dark Arts spoken of very highly, along with the price tag to match. XTR foam with carbon construction also seems to be getting attention. But I'll be sticking to PU for most of my boards right now.
Yes, I do that too. My RNF96 is a lot wider at 21" than my Pyzels and the shortest of the four boards I have at 6ft. It's a good groveller. Being in my mid sixties, I still need some volume though. I also had a 5'10" Machado Seaside at 22 1/4" with 37.3l but it didn't suit my style of surfing.
Ideal as I have the White Tiger and thinking about pulling the trigger on a custom Red, good to hear your thoughts after you’ve been surfing it for awhile.
I just happened to stumble on your video and thoroughly enjoyed it. Like yourself, I’m also an older surfer (55 y/o) who surfs mainly shortboards. You mention that volume is important to you and I was just wondering what is your height and weight? Keep up the good work. Thanks! 🤙🏽
Hi bro yeh you're on the Wright track with the red tiger try maybe different fins it might help also shoulder hieght size waves an bigger it will suit you every board is different stick to what you know helps get another board as well good luck
Been surfing it in the 3 - 4ft range, in waves that have had a little bit of juice so can't comment on the grovel factor (unless you consider that grovelling), although if I weren't testing it out in a range of conditions to see what suits, I would normally go to my RNF96 for grovelling.
I've tried a number of different fin types including AM2s, but not the AM1s--I'm 180cm at 82kgs. I've come to the conclusion that the fins that suit my surfing best, on both the Red Tiger and my Shadow are the JJF Signature Large, although I have a set of mediums for bigger days for my shadow and ghost. They're a neutral stiff fin. I have yet to try 2 +1 in the Red Tiger but will do so on a small day to see how they go--Noel Salas said they worked for him.
Should be interesting to hear how the Precious goes - Pyzel says along with the Red Tiger it goes in average to good waves well, but then the Red Tiger goes well in really good waves too. End of month for a feel of the Precious in the shops here.
Hi, you have had a Pyzellien XL?! how do you compare them? I surf probably the same type of waves as you. After seeing a lot of reviews I'm going to buy a Pyzelien 2 it think is the most balanced.
I had the original Pyzalien, not the Pyzalien 2. I didn't like that board at all. Sold it and bought a Phantom, which I liked better, but sold that and bought the Shadow XL, which I love. I've not had a Pyzalien 2, but I know a few guys who have them and they really like them.

I have been surfing it at the local beach break and still wasn’t sure. But went to Raglan today. Point break and the waves are long. 3-4ft sets. Had a ball. Good speed, tight turns and cut backs were a breeze. No catching. And foot placement is coming easier now. It’s a keeper after today.
yes i like Netural, so i went large in sides and smaller trailer. I even added foam and glass to make the square a bit wider. Maybe the xl dimensions has a wider tail overall.@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms

Just replaced my old Shadow XL with a new one. Keeping the Red Tiger for smaller good waves with some juice.

instead of volume you can rely on width of the board if paddle power concerns you

Thanks. I'm 180cm (5'10") and 83kgs (183lbs).
Does it grovel at all? Also you should try some lost mayhem boards. Lots of hybrid shapes that surf well at slightly higher volumes for a shortboard.

I had the shadow but found it lacked drive, too pulled in tail and tail rocker, was better in sucky waves but still overall wasn't into it.
DId you try fins that would give you drive?
