Blessed are rasiksa to hear the two colossuses in carnatic music T.N.K Violin & genius Palghat mani iyer .what a purity , divine . Music that is immortal !...
"Violin' rendered by Sri T.N. KrishNan and 'mrudangam' rendered by Palakkadu Sri Mani Iyer are indeed praiseworthy. Both are experts in their own instruments. Enjoy hearing." - "M.K.Subramanian."
While the present days musicians & accompanying artists take plenty of time in adjusting the mic sets, volume etc, how the AIR could record the whole programme with a single mic. Sri TNK’s violin is not connected thro extra fittings. Sri Palakkad Mani Iyer does not have a mic. How they all managed to perform? More than all these things, Sri TMK does not have an iPad. Not only Sri TMK, most of the old time Artists both Vocal & the accompanying Artists managed.? Someone pleas clarify. V H S Moni
The beauty of the Mahavidwan TNK Sir's playing is that every song captures the emotive bhava of the song as the composer would have wanted it to be sung or played in front of God. Mahavidwan PMI Sir has deep knowledge of each song and so is able to follow virtually the vocalist or the instrumentalist's each note as if the Mridangam is also singing along. Another aspect in his mridangam playing is the "heaviness" in the sound of the mridangam. Even a simple pattern sounds so authentic. Mahavidwan Palghat Raghu Sir remarked that, as a young boy, after attending a concert in Thrissur, Kerala, i which PMI Sir played the mridangam, the sound of the mridangam kept ringing in his ears long after he reached Burma. I wonder about the intricacies of how PMI Sir's mridangam was built and how he was able to generate such unique sounds. I consider PMI Sir's mridangam sound as the most original.
Sri PMI was the greatest mridangist because he didn't just know when to play, but when to not play as well.. His pauses and breaks at exactly the right moments elevate what is already a great rendition to a memorable one.
@@rosybuddy28 Absolutely when to play and when not to. Also, he will not immediately finger during neravals in particular when the singer begins, that pause is such a joy for us. Also, his perfect timing; those pauses even within a song make him the greatest. The mahavidwan and his mentor Ariyaakudi Ramanuja Iyengar used to say that when PMI was with him three of us will be singing!. That's it.
What a jealous! TNK was so complete a musician that he could navigate the Ocean of Carnatic music, playing his violin close to the ethos & method of the human voice. This is well brought out in the majesty with which he has rendered Shankarabharanam here - minimal elaboration but complete delineation. This self sufficiency of Carnatic music is perhaps the reason why the VIOLIN remained more of an ACCOMPANIMENT Tan an INDEPENDENT vehicle for musical expression.
Excellent audio and very well rendered concert by the experts in violin and Mirudhangam. Beautiful krithis from Saint Thyagaraja, Swathi Thirunal and Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar. Thanks for bringing this grand music offering. I fully enjoyed every bit of it. Wish you well and lot of thanks again.
I think Sri Palghat Mani Iyer was also a Padmanbhushan. Umayalpuram Sri K Sivaraman is a Padmashri, Padmabhushan and a Padmavibhushan. Onky title missing is Bharatratna. Smt MS Subbulkashmy was a Bharatratna, if I'm not mistaken. Bismillah Khan, deservedly, was a Bharatratna. Pranams to all. The skills of the musicians need to be accompanied by the skills of the listeners especially of intricately sophisticated statements as being presented by the artists here. We dont need to be looking to an academic understanding as that would detract from the beauty of the music. However the skill is to be meta-cognitive in appreciating the entirety of the sounds being heard and not listening to these as individual instruments.
Sri Krishnan is oen of the rarest people on this planet who became handsomer and handsomer as he aged!
Two legends meet and one gets to hear the great naadam...Soukhyam 🙏

Historical moments of Indian music. It should be passed on to the future generations.

Sir thousands of rasikas completely endorse your views. The sheer bliss of listening to the two Mahavidwans is unparalleled
