I am a disciple of the Great Sri umayalpuram Sivaraman Sir and I love my master and acknowledge his greatness but to me always Palghat Mani Iyer will be the greatest ever human being to have played Mrudangam. He can just make it talk. When he plays its like a Lion roaring

Mahan..yendharo mahaanu bhavulu andhariki vandhanamulu..
Heaven
Thundering!!
Oh my god .
🙏🙏🙏🙏
And mani swami accepted the fact that he couldn't play the gumki like pazhani did.
This is one of many examples that he could play gumki pretty well.
I told it from his point of view. He always compared it with Pillaiwaal's gumki. And never used to get satisfied by his own gumki after listening to Pillaiwaal.
Mani Iyer played gumukki very well... But couldn't match to Pazhani's gumukkis.
Also how humble these 2 giants, Mani sir liked Pillaival’s ghumki and pazhani sir admired mani sir’s mridangam so much that he played khanjari with him.
I think his koncept of playing ist like chanda tipe....mor fast but melodik.....and gumki ist playd lik nadam playing..nadam gumki..not gust sound of gumki.....if he whonted he kud play 1 clas gumky like everithing else in his playing....dis is whery rare gud rekording of mridhangam ....Palkhad mani swami forewher...sory for my english whrithing.....i just whrite ehotm my theacher Late Mavelikaram vellukkuty nair mridhangam legend and sisyan of Palkghat many iyer..i studud Mridhangam from him ...and i lived in his home ..like a gurukulam....coming from Serbia ..i whos listening meny storis about mani karnatik musicion ....
Please send the full video or audio recording if possible...

The End Korvai, 3 times in 2 avardhanams is a Revealation., 😃😍🥰
Rishi Manoharan - Rasika who loves Mridangam and Palghat Mani Iyer more than anything.
Rishi Manoharan I play the flute and learnt from the Maths Wizard Pallavi Venkatarama Iyer. So I understand a bit of Musical Maths 😀😀
@@athreyaa The Korvai is very much Edam-Edam, not Samam- Edam. In Chatusra Nadai, the Korvai is 32, occupying 8 beats. So wen played 3 times in chatusra nadai, it becomes 32x3=96. When it is Played thrice in Thisram, it comes to 16 beats, with 6 per beat, i.e., 16x6=96. As it occupies 16 beats in thisram, in Adhi thalam it can only be Edam-Edam and not Samam-Edam. There is no 96+6=102, its always 96 (16x6.). Even the mohra is a normal chatusra jaathi mohra for 32 beats, that was played for edam-edam.
Gumuki
Why is the mic soo big?
By the way it’s a good recording with amazing audio for that time
It's the mic from AIR, they still use these big mics. The picture has no connection to the recording, has been used just for representational purposes. This is from a concert of Alathur Brothers.
Those first 14 seconds is like a dream...what a man PMI was. The greatest musician ever in any world.
Absolutely!
Sathyam..... Greatest musician ever to human knowledge
As once the great Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer said there are 3 Musicians in the Godly level. They are in a different league and their skills are unparalleled. They are T. R mahalingam (Flute), Palghat Mani Iyer (Mrudangam) and Rajaratnam Pillai (Nadaswaram).
True. The treasure of aesthetics.
