- heres a bunch of clips i pieced together to give an idea of what the hurricane long tube headers sound like paired to an x-pipe and hks hi-power rep mufflers that needed to be modified to fit under the sc chassis. it's a 2.5" piping from headers and all the way back. it has completely changed the exhaust tone and the behavior. by far the best mods you can do for noticeable gains. the vehicle is a 98 sc400 vvti 1uz with a 5sp auto a650e transmission.

@@ericacherney3132 as is, yes i agree with you. From a re-engineering point of view it can be done with the front end being extended and opening up the firewall/transmission tunnel.

Delete your resonator. Stock they are dead silent but without them it sounds so much better

Thinking about an SC300 for a first car contender while it's still a cheap hidden gem
A clean example is already fetching premium price. If you're mechanically inclined then you're better off with a fixer upper if you can find one for cheap
If I were to get a Lexus, it’d definitely be an SC400. Theses things are NASTY

Hi John , love the channel, I just subbed. I have some questions about the exhaust, some of the old forums are saying the Hurricane headers are very difficult to install, that they take many hours (about 7) and the engine needs to be lifted or tilted, was this the case when you installed them?
Thanks for subscribing! And to answer your question, No and No. It was fairly easy to install. Lifting the engine was not required but more of a necessity because i was replacing the motor mounts at the same time which i would strongly recommend if you are going to install hurricane headers or any headers that's available for these specific engines. It will save you alot of time and effort down the road. As far as header install, it was easy to slip through the transmission tunnel and block to bolt them up. You just have to be very patient when maneuvering them through the passage. I'd recommend you replace the manifold gaskets with oem toyota ones as well. A custom exhaust will be required after all is done. You have the option of running H pipe or X pipe.
@@saeturn29 Thanks for the advice. I thought it was insane when they said it took 7 hours, I've taken motors out and put them back in in that time. I understand they're not a direct fit and I will be planning around that. I love seeing your car and keep up the good work with the vids.

@@saeturn29 I will do, but my car has kind of been neglected for some time (out of necessity) and the old girl needs a lot of little parts here and there and I've recently found a guy local that deals with Sc400/300 in his spare time. So I'll be paying him a visit to get her ship shape before any more mods happen, but it will be happening in the new year and I'll keep you posted.

yo question. was your gauge cluster good off rip? or have you used the tanin electronic repair service for your cluster?
My clusters work fine. I only used tanin auto to repair my climate control lighting.
Were the headers custom made for the sc400? Does something like this coast a lot? I’m looking for headers for my Lexus 4.6 but PPE seems to be the only one available and it’s expensive lol.
The Hurricane long tube headers were made specifically for the soarer v8 and sc400 chassis. I'm not sure if they make it for the
ls460/gs460 if that's what you have. But worth a shot to look them up or email them @bestmufflers.com

I'd love to but CA has a very strict emission policy. If that weren't the case I'd have a 8000rpm revving 1uz vvti right now. I do like to sound of a choppy v8 however
Are you still staggered or squared for rims and tires on the track.
They are still double staggered 17x8 front and 18x10 rear. These may be coming off and going onto the gs400. Goals are to run Rays Gram Lights 57dr 18x9 front and 18x10.5 rear.

@@pushhrodd01 you can if you're comfortable with that, i used a cut off wheel then followed up with a flapper disc to smoothout the edges.

Exhaust is custom, no resonators and paired to x pipe from the long tube headers up front.

A decent one will yield a high price tag, i wpuld say if you aren't comfortable spending much but are decent at wrenching then buying a beat up one and go from there would be best suited since they will be had at a lower price

@@nathankelati7576 i daily driven mine for 10 years, i would say as long as you are on top of maintenance then thry are very reliable and smooth in stock form.

@@TWIZZY_RlCH repair cost are rare for me but if you take car of all the maintenance such as control arms, cooling and lubrication along with timing belt service i would say that's more than plenty to keep the car running. I can't give you a ball park but i also do majority of the services myself to save money if it's within my comfort zone, other than that these are extremely reliable, specifically speaking 98-00 models

Just megan ez2 coilovers with stiffer spring rates 16kg/12kg f/r
Polyurethane steering rack bushings and front and rear sway bar bushings as well. Track alignment and 200 treadwear tires. No tune. Just longtube headers with x pipe and custom exhaust and BFI with intake resonator delete. The 1uz vvti with the a650e 5spd auto is often underestimated but i have chased down some more modern and faster cars on the track. Hope this answers your question, cheers!
