I got the Green Beret in Magnacut and it's awesome! In my opinion, it's the best steel for a survival knife considering that it balances toughness with corrosion resistance, edge holding, hardness, ect. It's the perfect storm in a steel.
Pretty sure your friend's knife is using S35VN as a steel like your Pacific, as CRK discontinued the Green Beret 5.5 at the end of 2019 before they brought in the CPM 4V versions of the Green Beret 7 and Pacific. Also, the CPM 4V versions have "CPM 4V" stamped under "Idaho Made" on the blade, and are finished cerakote rather than DLC like the older models used. The new new models of the Green Beret and Pacific are coming out in Magnacut now.

So I finally got the Pacific and it’s everything you say it is. Then I compared to my SPARTAN HARSEY DIFENSA that was only a half-inch shorter. The Pacific textured canvas Micarta handles feel better than the Difensa G10. The Difensa costs more until you buy a Pacific aftermarket. Both are great knives. I give a very slight edge to the Difensa because of a better spine for bushcraft. Really, it’s too hard to choose for me
I have green beret for 1 week already and the knife is so cool and HT is great but I dont have Pacific yet.Which one do you think it so better for tactical/fighting apps?
I personally think you should have had the Pacific beside the GB for comparison, not that you were doing a comparison, but it would have been good for the video. Is your Pacific a 5” version? I have a 7” GB and I wish I also had the 5” as well. I don’t yet have a Pacific.
The people criticizing anyone using a $400 knife should speak to the old timers who used $500 Randall’s back in the 80’s. There are a lot of great options to compete with the Pacific for under $200, but the Pacific is a knife that will last you a lifetime and you’ll get your money’s worth. Most people just let theirs sit in a drawer. Good to see you are using it and showing it’s capabilities.
Both the Pacific and the Green Beret look awesome to me. Fair point that the Pacific may be more suitable for all purpose survival and the Green Beret slightly more of a fighting knife. I do often carry a combat utility knife as a general purpose survival knife. You and your friend have good taste in knives. 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
