- I decided to smoke a chicken on the Chargriller Kamado Kooker and share it with you folks in UA-cam land. This came out so tasty and I have been very satisfied with all that I have been able to grill and smoke on the Akorn. Money well spent. Now, get out there and get grilling! Also, if you haven't, please subscribe and leave any comments below and I will address them as time permits. Cheers!!
Excellent video
What happened to ceramic Akorn? Been waiting on auto Kamado review?
Char griller must repoed it since no videos.
Lol nah, I don’t have a relationship with char-griller any more. You can turn any Kamado into an autokamado tho. I’ve already done that with my SNS Kamado
I'm going to try this today.
Awesome! I wish you the best on it!
Excellent video and presentation! I should have mine delivered to the house in a few days!
Thanks! You are in for a good time!
What do you recommend for ambient and internal temperature? Also your videos are awesome, thanks for making them.
Internal temp 165 at the least but don't go too hot as the chicken could dry out unless you brine it. Ambient temp of 225 to 250 works great. cheers!
I have cooked chicken like this over a can of coke or a can of sprite. The family loves it. I prefer any method I use is to fill the can with soy sauce, sesame oil and rice wine vinegar...kind of a asian taste. thank you sir
+kennycybertron1 awesome! I'll have to try changing it up a bit. If I do it with the sesameoil, soy sauce, and rice wine, I'll give ya a shout out :)
Just Subscribed! going to do this TONIGHT
One thing I recommend is getting some of the rub under the skin. I didn't do it and the chicken came out good but wouldn't be even better if I had put rub under the skin. :)
and Thanks for the sub!! :D
I'll Try that, Thanks Again. ROCK ON Brother!
Is that a temperature probe on the grate and chicken, any info on it?
Yes. Always best to track the grill temp at the grate level since that is where the food sits. It’s the igrill thermometer. They sell for about 40 bucks on amazon. Bluetooth connection to your phone.
The Brew-Q Great. I think I’ve seen so gonna look into it. In the mean time am going to change the round thermometer since it’s way off even after re-calibrating a few times. Thanks
you posted this video 5 years ago. I am looking at buying an Akorn myself. Has it held up well or would you recommend a more expensive Kamado at this point?
The steel AKORN definitley has a life to it. You will be replacing after about 2 to 3 years even if you cover it. I have the full ceramic version of the AKORN now. If budget allows, go full ceramic. But it does perform very well.
I have the one in this video. It's well worth the modest price. Just don't let the temp get away from you. Takes a long time to get the temp back down. I have some really good cooks off of it. I've had mine for about 3 months now.
We smoked a chicken today - successful - super delish! Thanks for the help! Wanted to send you a pic but unable to add here. :)
Love the videos! Super helpful!
another great video!
Thanks!
Sounded like a solid recipe for the rub and looks like it turned out awesome, always enjoy your videos James. Cheers!
+RTM It was very good. Bud Lite makes a good beer..... for chicken lol Cheers!
I'm hopefully buying an Akorn myself and love your Vids but WT ACTUAL F is @5:50 - Reverse Cycle Air Con?!?
Haha! It was my outdoor air conditioner unit
Great videos, James! I recently purchased this grill and I'm looking forward to some good grilling. What temperature probe do you have there in this video? I'm looking for one so I can get a more accurate temerature reading than what the stock thermometer is providing.
+tomx63 thanks for stopping by! I am using an igrill probe. It's an older model but they have a newer version called the igrill 2. It's around 100 bucks but connects to any smartphone and uses an app that you download for free. Works very well. Even lets you generate a report about your temps over a period of time. Cheers, Tom!
I am looking on a buying smoker and you are selling me on this unit. Do you have any other Smokers you like?
+49eddieg I used to use a char-grilled professional smoker with a side firebox but I like the better control over the temp with the Akorn. It performs just as good as a big green egg or Kamado Joe and is way less. The traeger pellet feeder electric smokers are really good too. You won't regret buying an Akorn kooker. It's a very versatile smoker for baking pizzas, grilling burgers, or smoking different types of meats. For smoking, you load it up with your preference of wood lump charcoal along with regular wood chunks of your choice and it gives a great smoke flavor. Smoke ring isn't as big but the flavor is totally there. Cheers!
I would put the bird on top of an cast iron skillet to catch the drippings.
Very informative but kinda hard to watch because the camera moves so fast. Slow it down and you'll have great looking videos. I have an Akorn and I appreciate the tips.
+Jack Corry I'll keep that in mind for future vids. Thanks for swinging by!
