Thanks for stealing this Ron, despite my specifically asking you not to repost it. Maybe have a thought for the position that puts me in personally, having told Andy that I (and the rest of the convention team) would not reuse it without his permission
This was the Convention video you charged fans $5 to watch, right? Wait no, that was the unedited vid-unwatchable. Five dollars for your Andy peepshow. I think it was *you* stealing from *us.* Convention goers (like me) paid ~$50 for a ticket to attend, multiplied by how many people? You gave us access to unedited footage *of our own Convention* for a limited time-one month. The Convention's track record was losing *everything* from 2020 and 2021 (not just Andy stuff); I rescued that footage, drastically improved it with editing, and provided it here free of charge for fans like myself. The other three organizers expressed no concern with that-only Mr Five-Dollar Peepshow. Waaay back in February, you asked me to "hold off" on making this 2022 vid public; You didn't say "do not repost per Andy's request". Your argument was dubious and failed to make sense, but I still gave the Convention time to publish it. Given the history of abandoning footage though, I had my doubts; I knew this interview would never see the light of day--unless you decided to charge fans five bucks again. I published this edited version the day after The Big Express preorders opened up, *to help Andy & the band make money* (see the link to Burning Shed). I serve the fans and I serve the band. I don't serve people who charge $5 to view raw footage under the pretense of "recouping convention losses." Do you remember when a fan asked how much you were in the hole, offered compensation, then you suddenly changed your "convention loss" story to a fairness argument, stating rather absurdly that "Convention ticket holders would be upset if we gave it away for free, so we have to charge $5?" This is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I suspect it's really about that $5 and whatever pie-in-the-sky plan existed for all this lost footage. Our private conversation only solidified that suspicion. *You had three years to do something with the 2020 footage.* Who rescued it? Same with 2021-Who rescued that? Now it's the 2022 footage, and we're deep into '23. I saw the pattern and stepped in to break it up. Rescued, edited for the fans, and put out for free. Feel free to tell Andy it's my fault that his unseen Convention interviews were publicized *to generate interest in The Big Express 5.1.* You didn't reuse it, I did-for the benefit of XTC and their fans. I even edited out potentially embarrassing moments for Andy's sake. If that's a sin, then hey-I'm a sinner. *And who did I steal from?* Andy? The Convention? You made it public on the FB page for Convention ticket holders, then *reused it yourself* by charging non-ticketed fans $5 to view it. You were one of four organizers, and the only one with an issue. You still hold the unedited 2022 footage, including things I don't care to release. *You gonna put it out for fans?* Did you ever inform Convention ticket holders that Andy doesn't want YT fans to hear what he says, so please keep it secret? No. Does it make any sense that Andy would have an hour-long conversation *on video*, but god forbid it ever becomes public? No. The facts of the matter are that you charged fans $5 for an Andy peepshow, and you abandoned the 2020 Andy interview-although you had no issue with me rescuing & publishing that one. Probably couldn't justify charging for the old one, right? Btw this isn't directed at the other convention organizers. If you're upset too (which I highly doubt), feel free to message me and we can discuss like adults. Seriously doubt anyone else cares though. My editing & publishing are a permanent testament to your work.
oh shit i gotta make sure to download this video before it's deleted due to all the shit present in this back-and-forth and huge wall of insane person text
@mumujams lol hey welcome to the XTC fanbase! Video's not going anywhere don't sweat it (it exists nowhere else in this form, or any form for that matter). Hope you enjoy it and don't forget to grab The Big Express 5.1 on preorder (linked in comments).
Since Darryl felt it necessary to come here and accuse me of stealing (false), I've pinned it for everyone to see. Ask me anything, I have nothing to hide. Ask Darryl a question about Convention footage and he'll give dodgy explanations about having spent thousands in convention money to now find himself in a hole, and obfuscate the true issue by mentioning Andy's mysterious permissions (which Darryl had months & years to request so fans could see these two interviews). Convention footage from three consecutive yearly conventions (that fans paid to produce) was abandoned by Darryl, a self-proclaimed volunteer organizer who professed not to do this for $. There's STILL abandoned footage that we can't see. Ticket holders had one month to view it: if you missed out, too bad for you. Also too bad for thousands of XTC fans who'd never even heard of the Convention. Maybe I'm wrong on some of this--feel free to correct me. I (and other fans) spent over a thousand bucks to fly to Swindon for the Convention we paid for. Are we in the hole too lol? Your criticism is extremely petty and short-sighted. You shouldn't have come here to badmouth me Darryl, and most definitely shouldn't have accused me of stealing. Every XTC video I put out is for the fans and the band. Can you say the same?
Indeed! Check the link in the description, you can still get Andy's limited-edition art book "Popartery" and the 5.1 release of The Big Express in preorders, released this Friday!
It kind of blows my mind that XTC isn't a household name in England. To me, they were the 80s equivalent of the Beatles or the Kinks. They had the musicality and adventurousness of the Beatles and the clever wit and narrative lyricism of Ray Davies at his best. Probably the most underrated band ever.
This is such a joy to see. I met a Kiwi girl one evening back in 1994 who bowled me over by telling me she'd seen XTC in Auckland in the 80s. The next thing I knew we were dancing round my sitting room at 3am to You're The Wish You Are I Had playing full blast. We celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary next month. Thanks Andy!
I just bought an XTC t-shirt. It's one way to show Andy my appreciation for his being interviewed for my entertainment. Hell, it was $41.00 for me in the US from 'Burning Shed'. I will prize it. :)
@@BlackRoomProductions Oh yes, some very nice shirts all...I got the one with the XTC logo. Really a grabber! I hope you dloaded that free 'Cavegirl" track! It's like a decent B-Side demo. Good track!!
After reading all the volleys in the pinned comment, I wanna say … 1.) After seeing Chanan’s interview w Andy, this guy comes off as … 🤔 lesser-skilled (insights on omelettes & condiments 👀); Chanan’s interview was inarguably the most happily engaged I’ve EVER seen Andy in _any_ interview he’s given (& no, I’m not Chanan 😅). 2.) I wholly concur w the poster’s arguments/reasons/intentions, all being against greed and FOR the greater good of the fan base. We’ve all had enough of the Bill Grahams & Morris Levys of the industry. 🤷♂️ Thanks for posting this, fine sir! ✌️👍
Andy never fails to crack me up. I've been on a Dukes binge lately which led me here. I related to that Top of the Pops incident, being a smart ass can really shift our futures. Just imagine if they took it seriously and had a different attitude? But then it wouldn't be XTC.
you should learn to breathe in that purple smoke Andy. Of course, you still have to walk to the market on occasion with the rest of us, but you have given us a truly unique catalog of wonderfully engaging music. So thank you, good sir, keep on keepin' on. As to the tinnitus, hang in there, i have managed to just mainly ignore it (8khz pure tone) with the occasional exception of laying in bed and noticing it. Also, you are a great and decent singer.
You changed ‘Alejandro’s’ question; he wanted to know what he clearly asked, which was if Andy would share a drink with him should the right circumstance present itself… which, btw, would’ve made for a more interesting answer than that which Andy had for the genericized ‘interpretation’ of the actual question. But, maybe you were providing an escape clause for what you perceived to be a potentially uncomfortable question for Andy? I guess that would be understandable. Either way, very nice interview, and I thank you for it.

I fully agree, we only want to see Andy. He is the important one. The original that I "stole" was much worse until I improved it with editing. That original format used the wide two-person view throughout the entire interview, making it very unpleasant to watch. In this edited version I brought Andy full-screen and only showed Darryl when he asked questions. I also was considerate of Andy, who might not like being watched full-screen the entire time like a nature show.

There've been more than 8 Beatles, you know. Quite a lot, actually, if you count the Quarrymen, and why wouldn't you? The Quarrymen became the Beatles much the way the Helium Kidz became XTC, except they were still faffing about more with school. Right, Mr. Zip Code?
It would be great if they could reunite, spend as much time as they want on a new album without being rushed, and enjoy the results. I've been watching Muse documentaries, showing them having lavish studios, orchestras and no manager telling them what to do. It is a shame, that xtc didn't have those luxuries. Shame on you, Branson. Release the Epstein flight log!
For what it's worth, I was very put off by the interviewer's insincerity after Andy's sharing his personal misfortunes. It was clearly upsetting for him to speak of those memories and the interviewer laughs after one tale inappropriately, and just moves Andy along to the next question without showing a bit of sympathy. I really feel bad for my hero. Being ripped off by your manager, having to stay medicated to keep the tour moving but the other members seemingly had little regard for Andy having to carry 90% of the media load. Suffering from tinnitus is no picnic especially if your Andy Partridge. Why is Andy appearing to be in bed wearing bedclothes? I hope he's being paid for his time. This is the second interview with Andy in bed I've seen recently. I wish him good health and happiness.
@@BlackRoomProductions Well, it seems he may be in need of income by the looks of what he has over at 'Burning Shed'. He has sorta what I would call throw away up for sale. Seems a bit needy. Andy's not rolling in cash these days.
