- Hey guys! Today we review a Bachmann Amtrak Siemens SC44 Charger. I share some thoughts and opinions on what Bachmann did right, as well as some areas for improvement. Enjoy!

I have 2 Bachmann ACS-64s and 2 ALC-42s, and even though I’m not the biggest fan of Bachmann. But both are more impressive than previous models.

Awsome Review. Good presentation of Feature/ Benifit. I agree completely that Bacmann invested in the money in all the right areas to provide the most Bang for Buck. And Thank you for pointing that out. Manufacturers watch these videos on their own products . And praise on things done well has a lot of impact on future products. Good point about the packaging too. I like to keep models in the boxes. Convenience is important because I take them out of Packages to run them often. Cheers, Steve.

Was gonna say that it looks like a good model. Don’t get me wrong, it is but considering all the molded on details, I don’t think it should cost $400 cad. Maybe $250 at most but it definitely doesn’t beat rapido or Scaletrains in terms of detail.
I dont know of anyone whos actually paying $400 for these locos. Retailers are selling these new for $265 (like Trainworld), and on ebay you can find these used for $150-250. For that price, the engine is quite reasonable if you ask me. Cheers!
@@trainman440 yeah $265 usd is $360 cad which is quite a bit. It’s good that they are selling lower on eBay but the cost brand new from Bachmann is not great.
@@eth.wong04 oh. if youre saying they shouldnt cost $400cad comparing it to rapido and scale trains...do rapido and scale trains locos with dcc sound only cost $400cad NEW?
@@trainman440 after tax, Scaletrains and rapido are about $400 new. However they definitely have more separate details which in my opinion justifies the higher price compared to the charger. I’ve seen what goes into them so I’d say I have a decent idea of what price they should sell for.
@@eth.wong04 Scaletrains and rapido is $400 CAD new with dcc sound? if so then yea i would agree that bachmanns loco is overpriced, since its costing the same as much higher detailed rapido locos. BUT Im pretty sure (atleast in USD) bachmanns SC44 is priced lower than the DCC sound diesel offerings from scaletrains or rapido. Rapido engines are normally like $300 USD. Bachmanns chargers are $265 USD. That difference in price is what accounts for the different levels of detail. Cheers!
What is your opinion on Bachmanns ho Hudson and them making the streamlined version of it?
In terms of build quality and reliability, the engine is superb. For the money you pay, the engine is great. But the detail and accuracy isnt quite up to my standards. Many things are oversized/undersized, or molded on, or missing. The lettering is placed incorrectly. All these reasons, along with the fact that I dont need another hudson, is reasons for why im not getting one. But I think they're good, if not inaccurate models. Cheers!
and I give props to bachmann for choosing to make the dreyfuss version, which means they can reuse most of the chassis tooling yet get another model out of it. I already have a dreyfuss model from BLI which I paid $150 for, so I dont feel the need to get a bachmann one.
