Thank you for sharing this info, Alan! First time fishing Folsom and landlocked kings, yesterday, and I hooked 8, using your flasher/hoochie technique. 😁
Thanks for sharing, very useful information. How about a video on the difference between a “Dodger” and a “Flasher” and their intended uses could be very beneficial as well.
Morning Great video Never seen a video like this with the bobber stopper & 1 bead for the hoochie 👍 I'm gonna tie some up use it for kokanee & Sockeye salmon at Baker lake in Washington
I like the knot doubled up. I will use it on halibut. I do use the sliding hook adjustable. I don’t tie it on anymore. I use the miracle thread after sliding on my first hook. It works all day all long for anchovies or tray baits. I lost a few fish with my sliding ties after catching fish… Sad Stories.
I just use a 700 series plastic tackle box and put one in each slot. I usually bring enough for a day of fishing. Other wise I put in baggies until I go again and refill box.
What depth got you the most hook up out at Folsom the other day and if you don't mind where we're you... I've always fished the Salmon out there on the river arms or near the dam where the river arms come together. Generally I'd start near the confluence and cruise around the arms untill I graph some fish or a bait ball. Your thoughts??? Thanks again for your service Phil
I've found that early in the morning the kings are on the shallow flats in 30-35 feet water off the main channel by the dam. Then after an hour I'll go look for the bait balls as they move into a little deeper water. Always look for the bait balls as the kings will be somewhere close.
Very informative video Alan. Do you use any other color hoochie besides white and how fast do you troll them? The loop you're tying is called "Perfection Loop". Thanks for all your help.
Pearl usually works the best for the kings but if I'm fishing real deep I'll go to a darker color. Usually the darker the water the darker the color for lures and dodgers
You can add a sliding sinker weight in front of the dodger like 3-6oz for kings. Only thing its trial n error not knowing how deep you are. You can catch fish just remember how much line your letting out also.
thanks alan for the info, ive tied those for kokes with smaller hoochie skirts in the past, i used to crush em at don pedro rolling bait, is that still an effective method, its been awhile. would it work at folsom?
Thank you for the rig setup👍 how fast do you troll the setup? I’m still waiting for Berryessa to produce. Went there last week got one king trolling for trout . Couldn’t find the bait slow day. Hoping to get out soon with your mooching set up and now this trolling rig and get into some kings👍
Right now you need to go to Folsom Lake or Oroville if you want to catch kings. I'm trolling 8"dodger at 2.3 to 2.8 mph. The bait balls need to bunch up more here pretty soon then I will mooch for them. If you graph balls of bait then I would mooch for them
Alan-what depth is best for dodger trolling for kings in spring and how deep is the water a that point - what is best trolling speed using these dodgers - thanks
I haven’t fished for them or tasted them I must be missing out. I have caught and eaten Kokonani trout…..oooomygohsDliousfish! Smoked I couldn’t get enough. First thing I learned don’t set hook second you have to be quicker than the eagles 🦅
Im curious. Why is earlier in the year say now better for landlock Chinook than say later in the year? other than them just moving deeper. Does the bite turn off while we are all targeting Kokanee for any reason?
Usually early in the year when a lake turns over the bait fish move up shallow in big groups and the game fish will chase them into breaks or banks to feed on them. Thats when I like to mooch for the kings and it's game on catching lots fish. During the summer months the bait fish go deeper and so do the kings and it's harder to find them schooled up. So trolling is more effective as you cover more ground. They feed all year around so study where bait fish go and you'll catch more fish.
@@AlanFong Thank you so much for this informative response! Makes perfect sense and now I feel like I need to get out this weekend! This would explain why my wife caught a 15-20lb King on the top 10ft of water fishing for Kokanee in March with fog still over the lake. We can always see them feeding at the top.. i'm not sure why I didn't think about the Kings actively cruising this water column for an easy meal! Tight lines.
No when I'm trolling for halibut in SF Bay I use a three way swivel with a dropper weight and leader with different hooks. I did video on halibut fishing last year and you can see my set ups
When I use the pro troll dodgers clipped to the downrigger, I get horrible line twist. I have several bead swivels but still get line twist . How is it you don't get line twist. Using an Offshore release.
On my main line I have a good ball bering swivel to prevent line twist. The dodger has a swivel on the front and the back and that usually keeps it from twisting.
What do I have to say or do or not say or do? Take Me me me me Fishing. Not For Bait….I can Wait For The Striped Ones. I’ll pay half. I have been catching fish out of a small lake….bass N crappie. I did invite you to fish. It’s Still Available. I do want to record it so leave your stuff at home. Bring 2 Two Rods Kid.
@@AlanFong I’m fine with the back of the line Fong. That’s not just one of your lines is it Alan. Am I N Line? ???. I wanna tell V. I’m excited . Please….Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining. I do Luv to fish and to go out with you would be Great. I have been targeting bass n crappies. Huge carp in the same lake. I’m not really interested n fishing for them. I did toss some corn dough balls with strawberry jello. Not one taker. The bass stared hitting and I haven’t tossed any bait out. Just lures. Thanks For Considering Me To Go On Tour With Alan Fong.
I've been watching a few of your videos. I really enjoyed them. I love these tips you are sharing. Thanks Mike
your welcome and hope they help

Nice going and good to see it's working for you.
Very helpful information, and your explanations are great. Thanks
Thanks I try explain so people understand
Perfect set up!
Perfect loop was that loop you did. Solid 🤙🏼
Yes I've always used that knot as I try keep everything light as I can.
Thanks for sharing, very useful information.

Great suggestion!
@@AlanFongFunny. I was going to ask which you found more effective on the landlocked kings...
Morning
Great video Never seen a video like this with the bobber stopper & 1 bead for the hoochie 👍 I'm gonna tie some up use it for kokanee & Sockeye salmon at Baker lake in Washington
It will work anywhere as your hoochie will have more action and easy to adjust the hooks
Tanks for your Reports 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🙏🙏👍👍👍
NO problem
Great tutorial, thank you!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks Alan. Good info.

Thanks for sharing the info another great video 🎣
Your welcome and I enjoy showing some of my tricks. Lots of tricks equal lots of fish!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all your time and wisdom. Really appreciate it. Do you have a preferred or recommended boat launch in Folsom? Thanks.
Folsom Point close to dam
Great video! Thanks
Welcome now put it to use!!!!
Went to Fishermans and found the hoochies. Question is, how do you store them once they are all tied up and ready to go?
Thanks Alan. What’s your favorite way to store these leaders when you have a dozen pre-tied?
I just use a 700 series plastic tackle box and put one in each slot. I usually bring enough for a day of fishing. Other wise I put in baggies until I go again and refill box.
Awesome tips. What speed do you troll at? Thanks
For the kings 2.0 to 2.8 mph

Great video Alan. What brand of hoochies are you using? Thank you
P Line and Rocky Mountain hoochies
Do you ever get any line twist on your leader since you dont use a trolling swivel? Great video!
Sometimes but when you use a good ball bering swivel to the dodger I usually don't have any twist
Very informative video Alan. Do you use any other color hoochie besides white and how fast do you troll them? The loop you're tying is called "Perfection Loop". Thanks for all your help.

How do you get your bait down to the depths without a down rigger ?
You can add a sliding sinker weight in front of the dodger like 3-6oz for kings. Only thing its trial n error not knowing how deep you are. You can catch fish just remember how much line your letting out also.
@@AlanFong thank you and this is my first time fishing for fresh water salmon I've only saltwater fished
Keep changing putting heavier sinkers
thanks alan for the info, ive tied those for kokes with smaller hoochie skirts in the past, i used to crush em at don pedro rolling bait, is that still an effective method, its been awhile. would it work at folsom?
Yes it still works well. I'll usually start off the morning with the hoochies and when it gets tough I might roll some anchovies
Something about rollin baits can turn on salmon

Now the kings are from 25 to 60 feet. Weather and water temp changes things daily
Speed 2.2 to 2.6 is where I like trolling for kings
I haven’t fished for them or tasted them I must be missing out.
I have caught and eaten Kokonani trout…..oooomygohsDliousfish! Smoked I couldn’t get enough.
First thing I learned don’t set hook second you have to be quicker than the eagles 🦅
Kokanee are the best eating in the fresh water salmon family. Kings are good smoked and pressure cooked and canned
what boat launch is best to use in Folsom?
Folsom Point, Browns Ravine or Granite Bay. I use Folsom Point is close to dam
What size main line to the dodger?
I'm using 12# test on main line to dodger and 15# test on hoochies
