Yes please do a video on WFR training/fire navigation! Like you said, unfortunately with climate change I only see this issue getting worse and worse in the future and would love to be prepared before heading out. As always your videos are so fun to watch, keep killing it and stay safe !!

I really like your heathy approach to things. Health problems keep me housebound, so I live vicariously through channels like yours. Your joy, your competence and your appreciation of your experience shines through and that is fun to see. Plus I just love the outdoors and am glad others experience the joys that I do. .

Arielle, this was an exciting one! Glad you’re all doing well! Ahhh, to be young like you and have the ability to do 30+ miles and 7,000 ft of gain-with full packs to boot! Fabulous! You did the right thing with the evac, but it’s too bad you missed the Siskiyou’s... Good luck in Oregon... And continue to be safe! Michael, one of your oldest fans! (80 in 4 weeks!)

What an excellent idea re: a follow-up video on how you handled the situation. It was clear that when setting up camp you had the situational awareness to monitor the fire. In one scene you are describing what the fire situation is including the call, and in next scene you are following-up with another phone call as the weather changes, and then breaking camp and evacuating from trail. Brava…

Because you are not releasing in real time I was wondering if these fires were going to impact your hike, I suspected they did. I am so grateful and relieved to hear you got out safely and your team reacted with good sense and did the "better safe than sorry" approach. I think it would be very helpful to share your experience as we are now getting to the point that these scenarios and the heat is predicted to become the norm rather than the exception and future hikers would benefit from any input. With so many burn areas I was wondering if you wished you had a sunbrella for that extra 10 degree drop in temp it provides and if you would recommend it to future hikers now there is even MORE burn area to hike through! I'm guessing you are now in that bubble heading towards the end of Washington, safe travels to you as you near the border! I loved your commentary and your music, loved, loved, loved it!

It is obvious that you are about a month further down the trail based on the dates of the McKinney fire and your video upload dates, so I've always felt some relief knowing that you were obviously safe enough to continue uploading videos. That said, I had been concerned about your safety as your video reports unfolded. I had hoped you might have been able to get to the border and evacuate north. It's unfortunate that was not the case, but the most important thing is you made the wise decisions in the interest of safety. I trust that you are now continuing to crush miles further north and safely enjoying the continuing adventure. The footpath may be broken, but that philosophy of an unbroken path is one of negativity -- focusing on what was not done. It is better to focus on what has been accomplished. You and your group are amazing.
I would be very interested to hear more details about how you acquired and managed information about the fire and what steps you actually took to be evacuated (e.g., who did you contact, who actually evacuated you, and how did it come to be that you were taken to Ashland).
Wherever you are at the moment, please continue to be safe, and keep at it. The universe is right on time, and so are you!

Many thanks for that update. I don't use IG, so I'm at the mercy of video update delays. I had hoped the border fire wouldn't affect them. Well, it may well reopen. I have a friend who got to the monument the day before the border closure, but they skipped most of Oregon due to the closures. Lion's Gate and Mckinney closures are apparently open again. I wonder if Arielle's group will flop back and hike those sections?

Thank you for staying safe Arielle and for speaking to that. I feel like a lot of pressure is put on through hikers to do the whole trail regardless of safety and if for some reason a hiker has to skip a portion because of a trail closer then they didn't complete the hike. I get it but I also hate that idea. Stay safe friend.

I'd imagine it cools of a lot in the mountains at night. It might hit the 90's or more in the day, but usually its just a few hours at that temp and the rest of the day is cooler than that.

March starts get cool temperatures in the desert and NorCal, but snow in the Sierras and bugs in Oregon and Washington. April starts get great conditions in the Sierras, Oregon, and Washington, but the desert and NorCal are furnaces. And then there's wildfires. 😕

It's lucky you got out of there when you did. When you were being evacuated there were dozens of PCT hikers who were stranded all day at the Seiad Store waiting to be evacuated, with fires on two sides of them. The only thing I can think you could have done different is, don't call the non-emergency number. It was an emergency, you should have called 911 and pushed your SOS button, and not cancelled it until you were safely out. You would have still been on your own, but as long as your SOS is active they know you are still out there.

I watch a lot a lot of hiker videos, basically everyone this year on the PCT and I have been more than a little put off and annoyed by hikers complaining about how they were robbed of their foot path. It is so tone deaf, when considering people are robbed of their livelihood, their home, their animals, their communities due to fires. I don't think hikers realize how they come off. Which is why it is absolutely so refreshing to hear you say many times how grateful you are and to explain it all in a way that doesn't make you sound like a dbag. You are awesome! I admit I don't fully watch your videos, because I don't personally like the music, I find myself clicking off your videos because of the music. (But that's just my personal preferences) I may even go back and rewatch some-just because I see now you are an awesome person. I like you and your scenes, and your group and I wish you the very best. Way to go! Keep it up! You are awesome and you can do this!!💪💪🔥🔥🙏🙏✌✌
