    I’d assume the PCT is one of the best analogies for how someone lives their life in entirety. Let the perfectionism go my friend. ❤️ You are such a dedicated and driven badass and I understand the love of a good solid plan but some of the most magical surprises come from the softer and more unexpected moments in life. You’re not letting anyone down by bypassing 10 miles, especially since so many of you guys’ side hikes have added up to more than that! Keep hiking your hike Arielle! 💕

    We watch to see you adventure and have fun! I’m glad you’re taking advantage of these opportunities for spontaneity. Gives your hike (and your vlogs) a little more flavor and a little more joy.
    Have fun and adventure on!

    In this trail of life,
    One thing is always true:
    The universe is right on time ...
    ... and so are you.
    Whatever else may happen on the way to Canada, don't be discouraged by people who don't know this simple truth.
    As always, we are so grateful that you are taking us along.

    Thanks so much for sharing your heart. I too am super driven and in many ways it is wonderful because a lot gets accomplished, but it can also be a hindrance to change and freedom. This helped me to take a deeper look to be sure I am living life to its fullest, and being open to any healthy change and growth. Blessings and strength to you and your family.

    At the end of the day, you have to make yourself happy. If it were me, I'd certainly want to every footstep from Mexico to Canada but if you can't for circumstances beyond your control, and wildfires definitely qualify, then do what you gotta do. A while back while following someone on the AT, I discovered "hike your own hike" which I think everyone should do. I'd say everyone has to decide on their own. I likely will never do a long distance thru hike so I live vicariously through those who are doing it and recording it. Hoping you get to see the northern terminus.

    You hear the phrase, "Hike Your Own Hike" so often, both on trail and off when doing a long-distance hike. And it's 100% true! Everyone is out there hiking the trail for their own reasons and they're all hiking it in their own way. Whether you want to complete the trail doing continuous foot steps, skip small sections here and there so you can enjoy yourself more out on trail or even if you flip flop and decide to hike the trail from a different place in a different direction - it doesn't matter. You're out there and that's what counts. I love how you leaned into letting the plan go out the window. As an avid planner myself, learning how to let go of the plan and go with the flow was one of the first lessons the PCT taught me when I thru-hiked it in 2018. I had so many incredible experiences out on trail that could have never been planned. Honestly, I wouldn't have had it any other way. I love watching your journey Arielle. Thank you for allowing me to relive some of my own fond memories of the trail with your videos.

    There is absolutely nothing that anyone can do when there’s fire 🔥 closures. My heart goes out to everyone (animals, home/landowners, people) that have been affected by these fires. Bottom line you have to be safe and not worry about what any person (couch troll 🧌) that would leave any negative comments. You’re doing an amazing job. I’m so thankful that you’ve taken the time to document and share your experiences on the trail. It’s not an easy task. Imagine being on trail and spending a good portion of your town day time to edit, upload and share. Thank you for allowing us to follow along. Be safe and enjoy this amazing trail. It’s not about the designation, it’s the journey in between. The amazing friends and memories that you’ll have forever. Peace ☮️

    Hey Arielle, I just watch your Episode 20. I have friends that just completed their journey a few weeks ago. I saw them off at the Southern Terminus and was able to catch them in Cascade Locks while I was in Oregon last month. I've followed along on several of your Episodes. You're doing great! I had to finally subscribe and comment though about your "softening" a bit as you go. I'm a retired Marine and an avid hiker, as well as a pretty hard core rule follower. That said, I applaud you for your decision to soften and enjoy your journey. Whether you hike 2500 miles or 2650, this is your journey and you're making it right for you. In the end you will still have completed the PCT. I don't even think 1% of world or the US can say they have. Good job! Two years ago a family I know did their PCT (Mom, Dad, and their daughter, who was 13 at the time. Maddie, the daughter, decided that her PCT dream was fulfilled just before reaching Oregon. So, mom and dad, jump off trail and flew her to Washington to be with family then mom and dad returned to where they jumped off and finished their journey. Point is, and I think you know this, it's your journey and no one else's. Looking forward to the rest of your vlogs , thank you for sharing! :)

    Hi, Arielle... Great to see you hittin’ it again! It’s really distressing to see the plethora of fires that are plaguing your trek! We’re dealing with fires in the Washington Cascades currently; the smoke from the fire in Lewis County is floating into our home area in Gig Harbor, Pierce County, Kitsap Peninsula! Just today we were apprised that there is a fire in the Goat Rocks area of the North Cascades! I hope it’s out before you enter the area because it is sooo beautiful there!
    You know, I can’t help but think your journey through the High Sierra is going to be THEEE highlight of your trip! Call me prejudiced, but the Sierras are where I spent so much of my hiking life and I can’t help but guess it’s a favorite place for even through-hikers as well! Here’s wishing you continued success on your journey-both physically and emotionally!

It's YOUR adventure, whether that's taking every continuous step on the trail or discovering the areas you hike through in different ways. Whichever choice you make is the right choice for you. So happy you enjoy Oregon, so far, I love it here.

    Remind yourself that those “keyboard warriors” who are being critical are probably sitting in Mom’s basement. I know that’s slightly exaggerated, but you get my meaning :-). You keep being you! This is your dream/goal and no one else’s. We’re blessed to be along for the ride… or should I say, hike.

    Even as a small UA-camr I (Kelley) understand the pressure cause you feel like it's not just for you but your UA-cam family. In the end, you have to do what's best for you. Your true fans will understand. I put a lot of pressure on myself too in the past but have learned to let it go. It can rule your life. Just like you learned that even though you didn't hike that section. You made lifelong memories. Also if there are any keyboard warriors that complain remember most likely they are sitting behind a computer and not out there hiking. Thanks for opening up it means a lot and helps more than you know.

    Arielle, Love your videos. Every year from March to June, I do a day hike on the PCT in southern calif. I do trail magic once a week (ice cold sodas). It looks like i missed you by 2 days at Deep Creek - although I dropped off extra sodas at McDonalds on the day you were there. I hiked Baden Powell 2 days after you. I saw your register entries at the cache past McDonalds for May 11. Also saw entries for Spice, Half and Half, Catchup, and Lucky Charm. I took a picture but don't know how to post it here.

    Crater Lake is an amazing place. It's nice that you were able to see on such a beautiful day :).
    The hiking experience is what you make of it. Some people are so regimented in their approach. A lot of people seemed conditioned to rely on the continuance of predictiblity, set conditions and goals. To me, the whole idea of idea of hiking is the freedom, being in the moment and enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds you. (and of course, the sense of adventure). There are challenges on the trail, just as there are challenges in the journey of life. Often these challenges are gifts that encourage us to be more adaptable, resourceful and challenge us to open and expand our mind. They encourage us to re-assess what is most important and meaningful to us. Then new opportunities for new experiences, growth and transformation can occur.
    I really enjoy the videos. Best wishes to you and your Tramily on your journey :)

    Hey sweetie, you do your hike and enjoy it. I really doubt there are any true purists, but you are about as close to one as one can get. You and your awesome friends are a true inspiration for those of us that may only be able to dream of doing the pct. God Bless.

  • @frstesiste7670
    @frstesiste7670 2 роки тому

    I was semi purist on the AT (slackpacked a couple of days and did one high water level alternate). One of my goals for the PCT was to be a little less purist. Not like skipping longer sections, but being a little more practical/flexible with things like doing shortcuts to water sources or into/out of resupply. Ended up doing only one of each, but it was a high snow level year and had to do a flip flop because of time limitations on my visa and the flip flop was a big disappointment to me. I think most hikers most years will run into some problems that makes the dream of a unbroken hike from Mexico to Canada impossible. Some will be fine with skipping some miles, some will go back and hike those miles later and everyone will just have to find what's right for themselves. IMO it's easier to enjoy the journey though if you're not too strict with yourself (or happen to hit the right year with the perfect conditions).

    it would have been almost unheard of it you didn't miss portions due to fires (or to have fun for that matter)! you aren't letting anyone down (or yourself!). If people get upset about it then screw 'em.

  • @johnm7437
    @johnm7437 2 роки тому

    Good for you! In these arbitrary things that we do, where humans make up the rules, sometimes I think we get a bit silly with how we strive to be a "purest". In rock climbing, style matters and in some ways there are legitimate reasons to follow the rules, but other times I think we just press too hard. For me, as long as you report the style you did the route, and as long as you didn't damage anything, then why should anyone care. I think you made a wise decision. I've always subscribed to the philosophy that he who has the most fun wins. Not.. he who did it the purest. As I've watched people hike it over the years one of the things I've thought is how glorious it would be to take a day off here and there in some spectacular spot. But yall rarely have extra food and you have schedules.. so I understand that that is difficult.

    Arielle Permission to have fun, not that you need it from me or any other armchair quarterback who is watching and not hiking with you. Ignore any naysayers as you did not choose to leave the trail in Northern California you were forced to leave by mother nature and she is undefeated. It is one thing to take a day hike in the mountains and see a storm coming in vs. what you and your trail family is doing spending days on end out in the wild. Tell Pinch this bald guy loves his wide brim flopping hat. I wondered about the pancakes during your evacuation.
    Can't wait to see what you guys will be doing in Oregon on your side trip. Safe travels.

  • @jimo2665

    I'm sure you will get some negative comments for skipping miles, probably from people that have never worn a backpack. Like they say hike your own hike I agree with you many people skip miles on long trails especially the CDT most will never admit it. The trail should be fun . Many purist believe you need to do every possible mile to accomplish the mental and physical challenge because at some point on a thru hike everybody has the temptation to skip ahead. But that doesn't mean everybody has to be a purist. Everybody has their own reasons for hiking. It sucks that you have to deal with all the fires. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to complete the trail with no fire closures and before the trail had as many burn scars as it has now. Ignore the negative comments and remember this is your adventure and you can always go back and hike the parts you have missed another time if you want.

  • @EastTennesseePhotographer
    @EastTennesseePhotographer 2 роки тому +1

    Dude don’t even explain yourself for the choices you make to keep yourself and your friends safe. Walking through fire closures doesn’t make those people who are doing it anyway cool…it makes them jerks for risking their lives and possibly needing rescued …and then making someone else risk their life to save them for being a jerk and hiking a closure.
    And don’t listen to the couch hikers either because who cares what a couch hiker even has to say to a person with their feet on a trail?
    Stay safe!

    @johnalden5821 2 роки тому

    You guys have hiked hundreds of miles, across the desert, scaling the tallest mountain in the Lower 48, backpacking over high Sierra passes, through national parks and dodging deadly wildfires. Deciding to skip 10 miles of probably unremarkable trail is not a federal crime. I mean, you've got nothing to prove to anybody at this point.
