Ciao, Italian here to explain the whole "terroni" thing. (I know I'm a little late, but just in case your are interested) It comes from "terra" ("earth") and like the southeners call the people from the north "pollentoni" because they eat polenta, the people from the north call us southeners "terroni" because we "eat dirt". This has to do with what he explains about the dialects. It's a stereotype in Italy that southeners mumble their words and are hard to understand, like if someone has their mouth full, however, because the south is also said to be poor (which is kind of true, but whatever) we can only have our mouths full with dirt. So "terroni" basically means "dirt-eater" and refers to us speaking unclear (which, if I'm being honest, is also kind of true) and being poor. It's an insult that was used a lot more back in the day. Now it is mostly used as a joke, we laugh about it and only a few old people get actually offended over it (still don't use it though, there is a small chance that there might be some really proud southeners who punch you in the face or something)
"italy has volcanoes?" *boy oh boy we have those* anyway the "terroni" thing is basically cause the south is where agricolture is mostly present in italy, essentially this word is like calling someone an "ignorant countryman" or something along that line

@@jay_ooh Italian here. This is not correct. At the start of the Vesuvius eruption the cities of Pompei, Ercolano and Stabia were destroyed by the combination of pyroclastic clouds (burning poisonous gases and ash that is sliding VERY fast over the side of volcanoes), falling rocks from the explosion of the crater and lava streams. Hi guys from an Italian girl, if you go there could you try to react to videos like : 14 things you should NEVER DO in Italy | Easy Italian 30 ? I find that the guys from Easy Italia explain very well some aspects of Italy and our culture. Of course everyone has his own habits, but that doesn't mean that what the Easy Italian guys explain is much more truthful than what is said in many other similar videos. The guy from geography is very enthusiastic and I think he put a lot of effort into making his video of Italy, but he got several things wrong. For example, the river Po' doesn't end up in the Venice lagoon, but above all I think he got the gestures wrong. It is true that we Italians are used to gesturing while speaking, but those in the video were mostly stereotypes. Like the gesture with the closed hand that everyone imputes to Italians... I don't know where it comes from, but in my memory I have never seen it used by anyone, at least not as it is interpreted outside Italy, some variations, but few. To have an easy proof of it just look at some Italian youtuber like "Synergo", "Caleel", "Elisa true crime", "Matteo Fumagalli", etc... I don't even have that little hand as an emoji on my phone keyboard... no Italian has it because we don't use it!
Just for info - We actually say "Barbuto" not "Barbato" (same meaning). Then "Terroni" is used to be a bad word against south italians meaning poor people workind the land (Terra=Land).
Terronoi is kinda an insult the North part of italy uses commonly against the south part. Terroni comes from "terra" , (in this case, groun or dirt) cause for a long period of time the south italy was undevelopped compared to the north, that see them as "illiterate paesant". protip: dont use that word in italy
I'm surprised you guys didn't know that Italy has volcanoes. When I was in school, we learned about Vesuvius as well as the disaster in Pompeii back in Ancient Roman times.
I'm French and I consider the Italian and the French culture to be almost like sisters. We're just a little bit Nordic than them (think Milan and Turino but extended lol). No other countries have as many quality wines, charcuterie (salumi), cheeses, vegetables, Michelin-starred restaurants, etc
Okay I’m Italian and even I didn’t know some of the places he mentioned. I didn’t know, for example, about Ai Pioppi, I’m gonna go as soon as possible lmao. Anyways, I’m glad to be part of such a beautiful country, even though it has it’s own flaws. Hope you’ll come visit us soon, we can be great hosts! 🧡
Ai Pioppi is in the province of Treviso, and it´s actually an osteria whose owner started building the fun park on his own by hand in 1969. :) now is closed, it will be open again in spring 2022.
As an Italian I thank you guys for taking the time to watch a video about my Country. The guy made a good video with just a few things not completely correct like an example he said that his last name is barbato which means bearded man. In reality a bearded man is "barbuto" not "barbato". Barbato does not have any means it is just a name. But really small errors that are perfectly understandable coming from a foreign. Really good video. "Terroni" comes from the means of "terra" which means "planet" or"land" which basically means " land workers". We have one language for everybody which is Italian. Then, people speak really differently using the thousands of "slang" that we have. Not only do we speak different city by city, but we speak slightly differently between sections of the same City. Like every neighbor speaks slightly differently from each other. Thanks again.
yes, hello guys from Italy... yes in Italy there are two sadly famous volcanoes: Vesuvius, the volcano near Naples that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD (do you know the remains of Pompeii that were discovered 2000 years after the eruption? Look on the internet) and the Etna volcano, in Sicily. The highest volcano in Europe. This makes those areas among the most seismic in Europe and Italy. Like all the Apennines, the mountain range that you see in the video that goes from north to south. ps stròmboli with the accent on the first o
'Terroni' is derived from the word 'Terra' , 'Earth' ( land not the planet ) and is a deragotary term used by he Northerners to say that Southern people work the land and are farmers so , inferior. which is all crap of course . I'm from Malta so we're even further south. Been to Italy a few times and never felt so welcome like over there. I loved Sicily and had a great time with my family in Napoli. Best food ever in both of them. Never been further North than Venice. I do prefer the South.
9:15 if you come to Italy NEVER use the words "terrone, terroni" because it is very offensive. It comes from the word "terra" (earth) because in southern Italy it is mainly based on agriculture. You can use this word if you are very close to someone from southern Italy (for example my friend is from Naples and she lets me use certain words).

Aaaand you would like to know that the Vesuvio, Volcano near Naples, it's a Super Volcano in reality, not a normal Volcano, if it goes booom, it goes off really good hahaha Oh and in reality, it is not true that it snows only on the North, Actually the place where snows the most is in a place called CAPRACOTTA, Cooked Goat if you want the transliteration, that is located in the South/Central part of Italy, in Molise. It is one of the snowier places in Europe! :P Aaaalso not true that the best wine is in Toscana, it is really good, but it goes more by your taste! In the South there are reeeeeally good wine as in the North, For example the Veneto is the 4th maker of wine IN THE WORLD!!!! yeah a Region, not all my country, just a region! :) ooooh and aaaalso not totally true about Polentoni and Terroni, it is usen by northern people to call other compatriots from the south Terroni, but we usually call Polentoni only the people that cames from where the polenta is made, so the Northern part of Italy Cheers from Rome ;)

Terroni I is a bad word made by northern Italians which has the meaning of “field workers” or just jobs that poor people usually have because southern Italy is way poorer than northern Italy 😃
To be specific, that wouldn't be actually Vesuvius but the nearby underground Campi Flegrei supervolcano (which, in case of eruption, would likely trigger its neighbor Vesuvius to erupt too). We're talking about an eruption with worldwide consequences!!

Yes that video is too funny 😂
italy=best country in history (with greece and spain)
Just for info - We actually say "Barbuto" not "Barbato" (same meaning). Then "Terroni" is used to be a bad word against south italians meaning poor people workind the land (Terra=Land).
Terronoi is kinda an insult the North part of italy uses commonly against the south part. Terroni comes from "terra" , (in this case, groun or dirt) cause for a long period of time the south italy was undevelopped compared to the north, that see them as "illiterate paesant". protip: dont use that word in italy
I'm surprised you guys didn't know that Italy has volcanoes. When I was in school, we learned about Vesuvius as well as the disaster in Pompeii back in Ancient Roman times.
in reality we Italians hate the French, they often make fun of us and we do the same.
its more a relation of love-hate, we love each other, we hate each other, and we make fun of each other, but still, we admire each other.
I’ve rarely heard a french make fun of italians, they rather consider them brothers. They love to make funs of Brits that’s for sure
@@jmlepunk 🇨🇵❤🇮🇹👌👍
Dear,
the saint they showed you, covered with snakes is San Domenico, the patronal feast of Cocullo in Abruzzo. Held every 1st May.
the wine in Veneto
His Italian is so bad, it's actually hilarious :D
Btw I love your reactions, been watching them the whole day :D
@@BimbaElis so da dove viene.
5:10 lmao ofc italy has a volcano didn't you study vesuvius and pompeii? maybe it slipped your mind. but yes vesuvius is near naples and it's the second largest active volcano in the world! Naples even has an emergency evacuation program prepared in case it erupts. We also have other active volcano, one of which was erupting a lot earlier this year.
"Italy has volcanoes" Have you never heard of pompeii and mount vesuvius before? oh my god....
The term "terroni" originates from the fact that people from the south, mainly farmers, emigrated to the north to work in factories.
Farmers -> land workers
Land translates to terra
Terra -> terroni
emigrati al nord per lavorare nelle fattorie?? ma che cazzo dici?
@@MrItaliano1900 Factory = Fabbrica
Farm = Fattoria
Come to Italy you will be welcomed as brothers
Iraly also have the 2nd worlds bigger and danger Supervolcanp of the world, after the Yellowstone. The Campi Flegrei.
Nice video! Seeing that free wine impressed you so much :D the best choice would be visiting Rome around mid October and see the grapes fair in "San Marino". San Marino is a small place in "Roman Castle Area" and during this feast the fountains throw wine.
Terroni comes from land because in the southern part of Italy is more focused on agriculture
Is a stereotype and offensive
"I didn't know Italy had volcanoes"
What do you think happened to Pompei??
the strength of Italy is that it is a very united people: IT
Thanks a lot from Italy
If you ever decide to come to Milano I can make you some food from this region.. :) also a tour around the city.. :)
How have you not heard of the fact that itaky has volcanos? Literally Pompeii?
not just americans that call it soccer? gee i wonder what those other countries have in common...
hey guys come to italy is the best country in the world whit the most beatiful story, culture, food, sport and another.....
Btw Terroni comes from Terra wich Is earth and Is intended to point out that they are Just farming and ingnorant people Who can't evolve and acculturate. It's suppose to be an offence...
ciao by italia

What has remained most impressed on you about Italy? Free wine.
The casino of Campione d'Italia went bankrupt.
Aaaand you would like to know that the Vesuvio, Volcano near Naples, it's a Super Volcano in reality, not a normal Volcano, if it goes booom, it goes off really good hahaha
Oh and in reality, it is not true that it snows only on the North, Actually the place where snows the most is in a place called CAPRACOTTA, Cooked Goat if you want the transliteration, that is located in the South/Central part of Italy, in Molise. :) ooooh and aaaalso not totally true about Polentoni and Terroni, it is usen by northern people to call other compatriots from the south Terroni, but we usually call Polentoni only the people that cames from where the polenta is made, so the Northern part of Italy
Cheers from Rome ;)
I am Italian, and i will say to you this "L Italia è la miglior Nazione del Mondo sulla cultura e sulla cucina" Mean "The Italy is the best Country of the world on cultural and food"
Hello, I can't believe you two had no idea about volcanos in Italy? Italy has a Super volcano too. We here in America have a super volcano as well, Yellowstone. I hope you knew that? Did you never study ancient history in school? Or didn't you ever look at a globe and wonder about geography? The World is so much bigger than where you live. Maybe it would be great if you explored these areas more? Just then you may care more about our planet. I'm not saying you don't I'm just saying you may think twice about some (more like alot) of these products we use as consumers. Our ignorance is killing these places as we speak. I'm just saying (respectively)
Have you ever heard of the volcano Vesuvius which destroyed Pompeii?
React - As 27 Capitais dos estados Brasileiros | The Capitals of the 27 Brazilian states | HD 🇧🇷
Terroni I is a bad word made by northern Italians which has the meaning of “field workers” or just jobs that poor people usually have because southern Italy is way poorer than northern Italy 😃
"Italy has volcanoes?" Well, let's say that if Vesuvio ever decides to explode, we are all kind of fucked... but fucked fucked
To be specific, that wouldn't be actually Vesuvius but the nearby underground Campi Flegrei supervolcano (which, in case of eruption, would likely trigger its neighbor Vesuvius to erupt too). We're talking about an eruption with worldwide consequences!!
