Man, Just after watching the last dance, kinda hurts though. Will go down as one of the most respected coaches ever
@Josiah Yue who are you referring to?
Totally agreed!
@@HotMessMemories1 jerry Sloan was a former bulls player , he was a defensive beast back then.
Coached the all time leader in steals and assists John Stockton, and the 2nd all time leading scorer Karl Malone. Rest in peace Jerry Sloan.
Don't forget Mark Eaton and his 5th in league history for blocks
@@loganh7843 Sloan got the best out of players like Mark Eaton, Tyrone Corbin, David Benoit, Shannon Anderson, Chris Morris, Antoine Carr, and others to do their job. Those 90's Jazz teams always found a way to be a threat in the west. People try to say they were a weak team cause Stockton and Malone were only stars, but other players contributed to help. Sloan coaching was the reason.
@@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. That of course is foolishness, you don't go 2 straight Finals by being weak. Matter of fact, several Bulls says in the Last Dance said Jazz was even better and a tougher series the 2nd time.
@@KenpoKid77 Cause the Bulls came closer to losing the 2nd time, but Stockton was noticeably diminished (although still very good) to me for the 1st time in 98', after the MCL surgery. At 36, it was his 1st season averaging under double figures in assists since taking over for Rickey Green in 87', and he didn't come particularly close at 8.5 per game. The Jazz' defense also noticeably regressed in 98' from 97', but the Bulls became more offensively challenged that yr than in any of the other 5 title runs. Pippen's health was deteriorating, as Kukoc had to offensively bail them out in some key games, playing above his norm, as Jordan was almost a 1-man show on offense in some of the important games. As much as people want to romanticize about the Bulls winning a 7th if everybody came back for 99', I think the fresher Spurs would've gotten them in the Finals in that condensed lockout-shortened schedule, which absolutely drained the older Jazz at the end of the yr that yr. They had the best record, till limping to a 5-5 finish, very nearly got taken out by the up-&-coming Kings in the 1st Round, before succumbing to the younger more athletic Blazers the next round, despite having homecourt advantage, and winning the 1st game. That was where the clock struck mindnight on the Stockton/Malone era Jazz competing for a title, in the 99' Semifinals versus the Blazers.
@@arsonhakobyan they were close to getting eliminated by Houston in first round in 98 playoffs. In game 5 that was Drexler last game, he shot something like 2 - 16 or 2 - 20 and Utah won that game to decide series. The following season Sacramento had them. Stockton bailed them out in game 4, Vlade missed the layup in regulation that could've won series. Portland was just too much for them the next round.
Unfortunately the Jazz didn’t win a ring, but they came really close several times, reaching the Western Finals in 94 when Jordan was not around, and twice in the NBA Finals against the Bulls. Had they won a title and history would treat them differently, but still they were great and did so much to Basketball. Jerry Sloan’s system was very consistent throughout the years and he will be forever remembered in the hall of fame as one of the greatest coaches.
Fr but its the media that cast those judgements. Real hoopers and fans in general give respect to Jerry's Jazz at least here in Chi, the teams that competed the right way and just had bad luck being good in an era where Jordan and the Bulls were great.
Facts people diss the Jazz so much nowadays. Sloan became a HOF coach even without a NBA title to his name, let that sink in.
Losing those titles was more about Rodman locking up Malone. Some of those games Malone didn't score that many points. If he scored his average Utah would have won both series
I was a 14 year old teenager when they faced the bulls but unfortunately Michael Jordan and the bulls beat them twice but coach sloan was a great coach although
With the exception of a lockout or pandemic, a team gets a ring every year. Rings are inevitable, legends don't need rings.
Man David Stern, Kobe Bryant and now Jerry Sloan. Man the NBA has been going threw some hard time
All three are in exceptional company though!
Now add wes unsled
@@henryallegon1934. Mark Eaton as well. Plus Shawn Bradley getting Paralyzed from the Neck Down😢😢😢😢
The year that they didn't make the playoffs (2003-2004) was actually his greatest coaching season. Missing the playoff by one game and having a winning record with a starting 5 of Carlos Arroyo, Gordon Giricek, Matt Harpring, Andrie Kirilenko and Greg Ostertag.
OSTERTAG!
Facts not to mention they thought the jazz would only win less then 10 games.
I've watched the NBA for the majority of my life. I pride myself on knowing my stuff, but you sir, have put me on to something i did not know....just shows how truly great of a coach the man was.
Ostertag=eastern day in German 😁
Ak47 was a defensive monster that season. Should’ve been defensive player of the year over Ron artest that year
"He never asked for credit and in fact he avoids it"
- Stockton
The Last Dance just featured him too. That’s sad.
At least he lived just long enough to watch it. If that’s any consolation lol.
@@elitedogger7948
Poor guy had dementia. Doubt he understood it. Messed up disease
@@elitedogger7948
Yeah right...like he wanted to see re-live that.
That's right, saw it recently. Sad news.
Dementia sucks
Rest in peace Jerry Sloan, condolences to his family.
He was the Gregg popovich of the Utah jazz .. Rest in peace coaching legend 🙏🙏
Except pop has 5 rings..and coached his way to the playoffs in 20 straight years.
@@lastofus35 pop would have 0 rings if he coached/peaked the years sloan did. none of those spurs teams were as good as the bulls, and they weren't as good as the 90s jazz either. the nba btwn the 2 lockouts was a very weak era. spurs and lakers were the only good teams, with a few good years by SAC and POR. every team had a guy pretending to be MJ while shooting 40% from the floor. just truly horrid basketball.
also, pop had duncan those 20 years, he didn't have duncan manu parker retire halfway through. stockton and malone never missed the playoffs in 18-19 years...if jerry coached them from the beginning that wouldn't have changed.
People forget that Jerry Sloan played for the Chicago Bulls.
Long Live Jerry Sloan
First Bull to get that number retired, that says it all right there.
No everyone knows that
Wow ... He's an icon all throughout the 90's ... as in the West as in the finals appearances .. us fans from the 90's we'll remember him for all the great moments he gave to fans and opponents just incredible ... Jerry rest in peace
Top 10 coach all time
One of my top 10 coaches of all time rest well Jerry Sloan.
“That Jazz up the road, i wanna play for Jerry Sloan”
Dame DOLLLA😞R.I.P. Jerry
Yeah, Dame posted that track on Twitter earlier today. Classic
One of the best coaches to not win a championship. He will be missed
And? Does it matter if he did
I smell an a-hole nearby
Infamous_Stax13 yes, it’ll be what he is remembered by. If a famous international chess player got to near the mountain top several times but never reached the peak they’d mention the fact he never won. Like Danica Patrick’s NASCAR career will be remembered. It is what it is. He was seemingly a great man though.
Ima just say one of the best coaches
The best coach
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭
R.I.P 🙏🏻
Condolences to the family. God bless!
I used to love watching the Deron Williams/Boozer Jazz team. They were so much fun to watch. Rest in peace Jerry Sloan.
No one will remember but Jerry Sloans greatest season was after Karl and John left they were predicted to be the worst team of all time and they missed the playoffs by one game.
I refuse to believe that. 😑😑😑
Back-to-back trips to the NBA Finals was amazing and very difficult to achieve for any head coach.
Karl Malone and John Stockton were poetry in motion.
@@deandrepage1048 no, it's true. They were projected to win less than 15 games by many people, and threaten to have the worst team ever, and he flat out coached those players to nearly make the playoffs.
I remember! And I agree, that was supposed to be a rebuild year! Yet they almost made the playoffs.
@DarkSchneider The NBA Playoffs, especially the NBA FINALS is where legends are made.
You are on the BIG STAGE.
The Regular season is for hometown fans that love you regardless.
@@markbrinton6790 As a former basketball coach myself, I understand the moral victory aspect that HOMETOWN FANS LOVE TO TALK ABOUT.
The pressure is truly on when you are expected to win.
Players will do amazing things when there is no pressure on them because nothing is expected = here goes nothing.
That same player usually crumbles under the pressure of the bright lights because his expected to make the winning shot with the entire state watching because it's the only game in town. .
Rest in peace. Much respect to this guy. Jerry Sloan would have definitely won a chip if he coached in this era
Rest in power Coach Jerry Sloan 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 one of the best ever basketball minds. Really understood the P&R and half court defense
"the Original Bull" & first retired Bulls Jersey

NBA has again lost a legendary figure within half year, this time one of the greatest coaches ever in Coach Jerry Sloan. May you rest in peace, and thanks for all the great memories.
It's really unbelievable how great a coach he was with all the wins he had and no ring but it feels like he won
He was my favorite coach together with larry brown and pop.. in tears here man..
Rest In Peace to one of the greats one of my favorite coaches
One of Utah Jazz’ s greatest coach. Jerry Sloan. I feel condolences for his family and players who are as players alongside with him (John Stockton, Karl Malone, Jeff Hornacek, and so on.) God Rest his soul.
“THE” greatest Utah Jazz coach.
Hard-nosed, tough, honest coach. One of the all time greats. Everyone talks about Stockton/Malone, who benefitted greatly from having a terrific coach.
Can't help but feeling emotions. All the best to Jerry Sloan and his family.
WOW REST IN PEACE!!!!
Top 5 coach of all time.
Red Auerbach, Lenny Wilkins, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan... okay then.
@@MrNaturalSez pop?
Man that was my first autograph, he will never know what that meant to me, im 35 i was probably 10, jazz vs. Clippers...i passed him the paper And he signed it no hesitation, a young black kid from cali...rest in heaven Mr. Sloan
Jerry Sloan is the master of setting screen plays. Just amazing to watch his setting plays.
RESPECT TO ALL OF YOU JAZZ FANS AND WE ARE SORRY FOR YOUR TREMENDOUS LOSS ...FROM THE BLAZER FANS
Rest in Peace Mr. Sloan you were a tremendous Head Coach for a very long time. God Bless U and your family. Will be missed! 🙏
Man, I can't believe I shed a few tears about Jerry's passing. The Utah Jazz were my first favorite team in the NBA when I was growing up! Anytime the Jazz were on tv, I had a front row seat. Jalen was right about his teams being disciplined. They executed so well on the offensive end and played hard on the defensive end. The Jazz were always a consistent team for many years. According to Jeff Hornacek, Coach Sloan was tough will all the players, including John and Karl. I knew he played for the Bulls back in the day, but I didn't know until today that his jersey was the first to be retired by the Bulls. So he was a good player and an even better coach. I knew he was suffering with the awful diseases of dementia and Parkinson's, but he is at peace now and no longer suffering. Thanks for the memories, Jerry and rest in eternal peace.
Man, Jerry Sloan, another shocker....my own family suffered a loss on Mother´s of our Mother and so we are in mourning and hearing this is so difficult. I send my prayers to the Sloan´s and the Jazz family...I even attended Univ of Utah in 2000 and knew the feelings and even some of the players. The Jazz teams that went against the famed Bulls is the stuff of legends.
May he Rest In Peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾💜💙
As a Jazz fan, this hurts. He was there in my earliest childhood memories when I started to cheer for the Jazz. I really hope we get a title with Mitchell and Gobert soon but it's even worse that people hate on the Jazz and the State of Utah because they simply don't understand what the Jazz and our state means to us. The Jazz winning a Finals would be like the Cubs winning the World Series.
Respect always to Jerry Sloan.
I salute Jerry Sloan ... I’ve always been a die hard Utah Jazz fan ....
Bulls fan here.Lots of news lately. Coach Sloan was awesome. Of all the Hall of Famers that were denied rings cuz of the Bulls (Barkley,Malone,Stockton,Ewing,Hardawy,Mourning,Kemp,Payton, etc) , Sloan was the one that had me torn during the Bulls/Jazz finals. As a great,OG, former Bull, i rooted for him AND my Bulls. Sad day for sports. Man, 2020 has been real rough.
A real tough guy and great coach!
Good man. Real, tough and never bowed down to anybody.
It seems like we are losing at least one legend if not two every month this has been such a sad year so far rest in peace coach Sloan.
A phenomenal Coach and Player.
Rest In Peace jerry Sloan 💯 real dude .
Old school 8-bit NES sound.
Jerry Sloan is one the greatest coaches in NBA History - No doubt about it. Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, Popovich, Aucherbach, Red Holzman, Larry Brown, Rick Adelman, Alex Hannum , Rudy Tomjanovich. The list can go on but Jerry Sloan consistent level of excellence religiously kept his team making deep runs in the Playoffs. Very much like Larry Brown. His traditional approach, being very Keen on the Fundamentals, would get you wins regardless of a lack of talent. & When you had great talent, you're either going to the Finals or winning the whole thing.
Man he’s just on the Last Dance. I hope he finds peace in heaven.
Thanks first take from utah.
Jerry Sloan was a legend in coaching, folks sleep on the guy because he was a player back in the day. That pick and roll was devastating.
rest in peace mr sloan
2020 will be a unforgettable year. Nonetheless Rest In Peace jerry Sloan
Oh no man this is so sad man
Sloan was an iconic coach. He was also a legend in Chicago Bulls history. So he is tied to them in many ways.
Hall of fame in my book peace be with you sir
Reliving "The Last Dance" must have done it. Rest In Paradise
Watching Jordan push off on repeat.. I’m sure it had an impact
2010-2011 was the year Deron Williams and he clashed and he left. That's why the record was like that and then they missed the playoffs. It makes him look even better. Prayers up.
God bless his soul. Prayers and thoughts to his family and friends
Rest In Peace big man
He deserved to get one ring.. At least one ring God I wish he had that chance.
Meus sentimentos aos familiares! Jerry Sloan foi um dos melhores técnicos!
That's so sad. Jerry Sloan has his jersey retired with the Chicago Bulls next to Bob Love, Michael Jordan, and Scottie Pippen. Jerry Sloan entered the Hall of Fame in 2009 next to MJ, DRob, and Stock.
Don’t forget the deron Williams , Carlos boozer , krililenko era. They was tuffff
Jalen about to cry
Rest In Peace 😭
A model citizen and a great example to follow. Rest in God's home Mr. Sloan
The pain reerupted after the last dance
People forget that Jerry Sloan was a phenomenal player who averaged 14PPG's and was a defensive and rebounding monster at Guard.
It’s amazing how Jerry played for the bulls as a player and coached against the bulls in two finals
This so sad 😭
I liked coach Sloan because of what jalen said. Tough and disciplined
Old school kept it real and came close to the very height of the NBA. My Jazz may never have won it all but he always made them legit.
Man i miss the late 2000’s. Pop, Phil, Sloan were all coaching for their last years and we didnt even know it 😕
Greg, Phil, Jerry greatest coach ever

Just watched him and the Jazz last night.
Im a jazz fan because of coach Sloan

He was part of the reason that made Jerry Sloan retire

Jerry sloan greatest coach all time that did not win a title but got the best out of his players
The Miami Heat has that culture also. Of toughness and grit and the players get drafted into that system
Go jazz win it for Jerry!
Stephen A what a memory hes got.
This sucks. I was obviously a Chicago Bulls fan. But that jazz team the more I wash them on film so amazing he was an amazing coach. This is a sad day.
One by one they all fall and each time it happens it shows that your world coming down around you. That s what's been like for 2020
Is Jalen sporting "The Spinners" or "Mighty Temptations" photon int eh background? Classic!
Rudy Tomjanovich is still alive and we heard of his cancer like 15 years ago. Congrats to his HoF induction. Jerry Sloan is up there in heaven right next to Chuck Daly and Flip Saunders.
2020 been some type of year
This is very sad
🙏😔😇from a spurs fan
Too bad he never won the big one, but a great coach and mostly underappreciated. Those Jazz teams, led by Stockton and Malone, and led at the helm by Sloan, were quite remarkable, especially those two who had to contest with the Bulls in the finals.
His bless
Good stuff Jalen.
Legend
Sad day sad time. Something just isn't right this year. Something just not right this year 2020. Sloan was a great coach and even a greater man, I just don't know what happened to him and Deron Williams but he was forced out unfairly. May God rest his soul peacefully.
Me and by bro would call our dad Sloan because he would wear his jersey at home regularly, now hearing that this man is gone just sounds like I lost my pops
David stern, Kobe, and now jerry Sloan
