      @@loganh7843 Sloan got the best out of players like Mark Eaton, Tyrone Corbin, David Benoit, Shannon Anderson, Chris Morris, Antoine Carr, and others to do their job. Those 90's Jazz teams always found a way to be a threat in the west. People try to say they were a weak team cause Stockton and Malone were only stars, but other players contributed to help. Sloan coaching was the reason.

      @@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. That of course is foolishness, you don't go 2 straight Finals by being weak. Matter of fact, several Bulls says in the Last Dance said Jazz was even better and a tougher series the 2nd time.

      @@KenpoKid77 Cause the Bulls came closer to losing the 2nd time, but Stockton was noticeably diminished (although still very good) to me for the 1st time in 98', after the MCL surgery. At 36, it was his 1st season averaging under double figures in assists since taking over for Rickey Green in 87', and he didn't come particularly close at 8.5 per game. The Jazz' defense also noticeably regressed in 98' from 97', but the Bulls became more offensively challenged that yr than in any of the other 5 title runs. Pippen's health was deteriorating, as Kukoc had to offensively bail them out in some key games, playing above his norm, as Jordan was almost a 1-man show on offense in some of the important games. As much as people want to romanticize about the Bulls winning a 7th if everybody came back for 99', I think the fresher Spurs would've gotten them in the Finals in that condensed lockout-shortened schedule, which absolutely drained the older Jazz at the end of the yr that yr. They had the best record, till limping to a 5-5 finish, very nearly got taken out by the up-&-coming Kings in the 1st Round, before succumbing to the younger more athletic Blazers the next round, despite having homecourt advantage, and winning the 1st game. That was where the clock struck mindnight on the Stockton/Malone era Jazz competing for a title, in the 99' Semifinals versus the Blazers.

    • @GABRIELA-ACEVEDO.
      @GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. 4 роки тому

      @@arsonhakobyan they were close to getting eliminated by Houston in first round in 98 playoffs. In game 5 that was Drexler last game, he shot something like 2 - 16 or 2 - 20 and Utah won that game to decide series. The following season Sacramento had them. Stockton bailed them out in game 4, Vlade missed the layup in regulation that could've won series. Portland was just too much for them the next round.

    Unfortunately the Jazz didn’t win a ring, but they came really close several times, reaching the Western Finals in 94 when Jordan was not around, and twice in the NBA Finals against the Bulls. Had they won a title and history would treat them differently, but still they were great and did so much to Basketball. Jerry Sloan’s system was very consistent throughout the years and he will be forever remembered in the hall of fame as one of the greatest coaches.

      Fr but its the media that cast those judgements. Real hoopers and fans in general give respect to Jerry's Jazz at least here in Chi, the teams that competed the right way and just had bad luck being good in an era where Jordan and the Bulls were great.

    Man, I can't believe I shed a few tears about Jerry's passing. The Utah Jazz were my first favorite team in the NBA when I was growing up! Anytime the Jazz were on tv, I had a front row seat. Jalen was right about his teams being disciplined. They executed so well on the offensive end and played hard on the defensive end. The Jazz were always a consistent team for many years. According to Jeff Hornacek, Coach Sloan was tough will all the players, including John and Karl. I knew he played for the Bulls back in the day, but I didn't know until today that his jersey was the first to be retired by the Bulls. So he was a good player and an even better coach. I knew he was suffering with the awful diseases of dementia and Parkinson's, but he is at peace now and no longer suffering. Thanks for the memories, Jerry and rest in eternal peace.

The list can go on but Jerry Sloan consistent level of excellence religiously kept his team making deep runs in the Playoffs. Very much like Larry Brown. His traditional approach, being very Keen on the Fundamentals, would get you wins regardless of a lack of talent. & When you had great talent, you're either going to the Finals or winning the whole thing.

    Too bad he never won the big one, but a great coach and mostly underappreciated. Those Jazz teams, led by Stockton and Malone, and led at the helm by Sloan, were quite remarkable, especially those two who had to contest with the Bulls in the finals.

    Sad day sad time. Something just isn't right this year. Something just not right this year 2020. Sloan was a great coach and even a greater man, I just don't know what happened to him and Deron Williams but he was forced out unfairly. May God rest his soul peacefully.
