    650 mg of Omega three fish oil and turmic and ginger will take most of the pain away. I went through this same thing and I did research and I have been cured for several years. My son is a power lifter and was having the same trouble. He now lifts 650 pounds. I love your podcast. You are a wonderful knitter. Have a good day.

    😅 Yes. Knitting strain is a thing! I was VERY enthusiastic to knit tons of projects when I retired a year ago. There were sweaters, hats, socks, slippers, fingerless gloves, etc. etc. . Like you, I was surprised that my body rebelled. What?! It’s so hard to dial it back when it had become part of my daily routine. I feel your pain girl!

      Thanks for sharing! I guess we just want to knit everything, but our bodies tell us to slow it down. Pumping the breaks can be difficult, but necessary. I hope you're enjoying your knitting while retired in a pain-free way!

    I loved your podcast today. Gorgeous magnolia bloom sweater which I also plan to due. As well as the field sweater. The shrug Karl is so addictive. I really would love to get in on this and be able to see everyone’s projects. I am not sure I can get it together to participate but oh so lovely your shrug is going to be I can’t wait to see. So sorry to hear you have a knitting injury. I want to suggest arnica gel or arnica tablets to help you heal. If you haven’t heard of this amazing stuff. It was instrumental in helping me heal my broken toe and keep the pain away.great stuff.

    Good morning! Thank you for accompanying me while knitting the Soncy Pullover by Beth MacDonald Stone. I get headaches from knitting too much… So I am knitting with a timer! Sometimes, I will knit 30 minutes, do chores for 30 minutes and go back to knitting…. And there is a part in this way of doing that I like more than the other 😂 This is what works for me. Have a good day! Elise

    I have the same pain!!! I find it’s the position/posture I’m sitting with, and yes unfortunately how long I’m knitting; when I’m sort of laying on the couch that’s when it is the worst. So if I can I sit with something on my lap, or at a table, so I can support my elbows while I knit, that really helps. I also try to massage my wrist and I use my Thera gun on my forearm in that big muscle near the elbow to get knots out of my supinator, and I use Lakota plus take breaks more often when I feel it coming on and that will usually nip it in the bud.

    • @pairswellwithknitting
      @pairswellwithknitting  11 місяців тому +1

      Thank you very much for sharing! I don't have a Thera gun, but totally should place this on my wish list, instead I use a lacrosse ball to get roll and stretch the painful spots. It's not fun, but it works. Breaks is key. It's been challenging to stop myself in segments, but has helped tremendously!

    Cross stitching did it to me. I took some time off from it and started Meloxicam as needed. Also take fish oil and stretch more.

    Cue the wood burner…. I’m impressed and a little scared! (the log jumped when you pointed and mentioned it)
    I’ve knit for many, many years, and the only physical problems I’ve encountered are when knitting with heavier yarns. Worsted and larger. When listening to other knitters on UA-cam, it seems to be a common problem.

    Stretches, stretches so important for successful knitting but alas like you just want to do one more row, just one more row. My first offering to the Holiday Shawl Club almost done and hoping to get one more in before end of December… but your Pressed Flowers Sweater: 🤩

    Love your videos and your style! Sorry about your knitters elbow- I experienced a tennis elbow years ago when I was besotted with cross stitching historic samples on linen. Now I am happily knitting but what was an exercise in mindfulness has become an obsession 😂

    I have experienced tennis elbow also with knitting. I was informed a lot of it comes from ergonomics. Also since mine was not relieved in 4 weeks my doctor gave me a steroid injection to calm the area and I have been good ever since - basically it’s been about 7 months out from having the injection. You can also purchase a tennis elbow band to wear throughout the day to give rest to that area of muscle

    I have knit myself into Tennis Elbow twice in my makers career!! It feels like a part of your whole body has been cut off when you can not knit.

      Wow! I feel the same way! For the first time since I started knitting, I went for full days without any stitches. It was awful. I've started knitting again in shorter time slots, but long for the days where I can knit until my heart's content.

    Hi Jennifer. Funny you mentioned knitters elbow - I’ve been having some pain in my hands and trying to pretend it’s not from knitting…thanks for the reminder to listen to your body 😏 I’m going to join the KAL - question, I have some snefnug in stash from a sweater that I want to use. Which of the free patterns do you think it would work best with? I know you said you are using it for the Cinch, and maybe I will purchase that, but thought I might try one of the free patterns first. Snefnug is so light but puffy, I think it could be knit in a few gauges. I’m just now finishing the Friend to Friend by Leslie Friend using some deep stash and that’s another lovely shrug! I think shrugs are having a moment!

      It's difficult to listen to our bodies, because sometimes we don't want to hear it! (That's me at least!) I knit the Saturday Shrug with Snefnug and it turned out magic. The shrug that I'm wearing in the KAL photos in beige and coloured stripes is the Saturday. So happy you're joining the KAL!

    For me the size of the needles and the yarn weight makes the biggest difference to my knitting endurance. I get shoulder pain if I knit too long with larger needles/thicker yarn. I'd say the cutoff is a US4 needle. Anything US4 or smaller, I can knit and knit forever. But with thicker yarn, I need to take a lot of breaks. It's a great excuse to have multiple WIPS 😂

      I love your perspective! Have a heap of WIPs is music to my ears. This is great advise, and has been great to rotate through various projects and stitches. I trying to mix things up, and it's been helping.

    I have had my fair share of discomfort from excessive knitting but I like to blame it on my job (trades person in auto industry) which affects my hobbies 😅 . The worst one I had was after dropping a heavy piece of metal on my hand below my thumb would make my thumb numb only while knitting. They has since healed and I'm good to go!

    i’ve experienced pain from knitting this year too, what made it more upsetting was it was mostly spurred on by my work from home setup (which is not ergonomic in the slightest) and a period of really heavy workload. the working was hurting my hands and arms and then i couldn’t do my thing that i do to relax because that was exacerbating the pain. truly no fun at all.

      I'm so sorry to hear all of this. It's sad that our bodies can limited us in the thing that calms them down and refocuses them, along with our mind. I hope you're taking the necessary time to heal and get back at knitting in responsible bits!

    Can’t imagine why you would use good yarn, live where it’s cold snd not bother to do the thumb or go further up the fingers. With all the great choices out there these wouldn’t be my favorite fingerless mitts.

      @pairswellwithknitting  11 місяців тому +1

      Don't fret! This is why they transitional mitts. I have plenty of cosy, winter mittens that cover all the bits of my hands. As a knitter, I got all of the mitten game covered!

    I totally agree (for my 2cents worth)....with Linda Rogers 3608 (below) - Carson's book is a bible of great information regarding knitting (physical) pain. When you are much improved (with the pain) - consider Arne & Carlos' way of knitting. It is on my bucket list to learn (believe it is considered continental without the finger up)....they knit a lot and without pain (I'm told). No, I do not know them but as I understand it they allow the size of the needle to dictate their gauge. I do this too with my method. I had thumb surgery some months ago for a clicking that it made. It did become painful so I am sure you will listen to your body and your Dr about what you should do to heal. (I am back to knitting without pain thankfully) - I am glad for you that the diagnosis of no more knitting ever is not the diagnosis. I know you will listen to your body (arm). BTW, I LOVE your podcast - along with all the others I subscribe to....try to heal as much as possible, avoid surgery and stay safe. 🧶
