  • Pairs Well With Knitting: Tulip Sweater, Sophie Scarf and a Colour Bomb
    The neon pink Tulip Pullover is such a fun knit! I chat about my knitting process on this beautiful pattern and modifications I’ve made. I knit-up a sassy Sophie Scarf and share some tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. There’s a new love story cast-on chalked with colour and finally some fun knitty announcements.

    TY for sharing your notes re the Tulip Pullover; my yarn for this sweater arrives tomorrow! I've listed your modifications for reference. Gifted a Sophie Scarf to my DIL for Christmas, she also loved the poppy red one I made for myself, and there that one went! She's very knit-worthy. The color looks nice on you. Very happy for your Norway trip.

      I'm so excited for you to cast-on the Tulip! It was such a fun knit and a fun sweater to wear! I hope you love it as much as I do. Thank you very much for your colour compliment. I have gravitated into oranges, reds and pink lately. I can't wait for our trip!

    Great tulip sweater ! I love the idea of using lightbulb stitch markers to keep track of the count on Sophie's scarf. I am a bit envious of your trip to Norway 😉

      Thank you very much! The pink is definitely what I needed in my hands this spring. Also thank you for the book reco! I've been going down the rabbit hole of scandi film, but books may be my next indulgence.

    I love your channel. I’m a new knitter and I crazily started a UA-cam channel to follow my journey! Really it’s because I have a Booktube channel, so I had already enjoyed sharing my experiences. I’m excited about starting my first garments. I adore your sweater and never thought I’d be attracted to that pink and yet I’m very drawn to it!
    Also thanks for the bind off share. I’ve been trying various bind offs and that one may be the one I need! I’m considering going to Flock. Your mention of it has me at their website again!

      I'm very excited to see you knitting journey! I love that you're experimenting with various bind-off methods. I'm sure you'll find one that suits you and your projects. Perhaps we'll see you at Flock!

    Love your pink sweater. I stick to Canadian hand dyed yarn with a merino base or merino/silk. Before I discovered Merino , I thought that I was allergic to wool as traditional wools including the rustic one you described, leave me with a red rash on my sensitive skin
    . Unfortunately we don’t have the climate in Canada to raise Merino sheep..

    • @pairswellwithknitting
      @pairswellwithknitting  Місяць тому

      Thank you very much! Yes, Merino sounds much kinder to you than rustic yarn. Have you had lucky with suri as well?

    It might seem like a relatively minor thing but thank you for speaking about your bind offs with joy and the importance of the joy of the knitter in the making of the bind off. I am a huge overthinker and during the last jumper I knit I, embarrassingly, felt genuine anxiety on approach to the bind off. There's so many choices and I felt overwhelmed. Especially, I feel there is a bias in knitting podcasts towards the Italian bind off, or rather, against other types of bind off. Watching your podcasts and you simply explaining you did a purl over purl, or standard bind offs helped calm me down. In the end, I chose a modified stretchy bind off and most importantly, like you said in this podcast, it was a joyful process!

    • @pairswellwithknitting
      @pairswellwithknitting  Місяць тому

      I so happy that you're finding your binding-off process to be more pleasurable! I do not enjoy finicky knitter and want to enjoy all parts of my knitting, that include the cast-on and the bind-off. I was on a search for a less-fussy sewn bind-off and believe what I've used on the Tulip my new go-to for a sewn method.

    Love the color bomb! 😍 might have to try that one too. So excited for your Norway trip! We went last summer and loooved it. You said it will be wet, so assume you have Bergen on your itinerary LOL. Give me a buzz if you want to talk destinations, activities, yarn stores etc.

      Ohhh! I love that you've travelled to Norway! Yes, Bergen is one of our destinations. What should I not miss?

    • @LizEricBenKate
      @LizEricBenKate Місяць тому

      @@pairswellwithknitting I don't know if I have much insider info, we did the basic tourist destinations... plus some yarn stores! In Bergen, hike the Fløyen (or take the cable car one way), for the view and the weird troll forest at the top. You'll probably find the same ones but I stopped at yarn stores Modellstrikk and Strikkelykke. There's even a yarn store in the train station, which I didn't get to. Not too far outside Bergen, (if you are driving), you could tour either Oleana or Dale of Norway factory/museum/outlets for more interesting knitwear sightseeing. We did a bit of roadtripping, to hike on a glacier and to visit some of my husband's family history locations (no living relatives left there but still interesting). There are breathtaking waterfalls and good places to hike everywhere. An afternoon fjord cruise out of Flåm was just enough to see the scenery without booking a real cruise. In Oslo we did what I expect is traditional tourist stuff as well: museums (art, history, folkemuseum), walking up the side of the opera house, Vigeland park, etc. I regret not renting a floating sauna but my family wasn't into it ;) I bought yarn at both Fru Kvist and Pickles (of course there are others I missed!). Also, since you're a runner, too... I have a running group at home that meets at a brewpub, and found a similar and very welcoming group in Oslo! Skyggesiden Social Running meets at Skyggesiden Bar on Wednesdays at 6pm: facebook.com/skyggesidenrunningclub. Have a great trip!

      @@LizEricBenKate This is amazing!!!! Thank you very much for sharing all of your tid bits of Norway. Interesting you mentioned that you wish you had have done the sauna experience in Oslo. The love of my life isn't keen, but it is something that I'm signing-up for myself! I'm looking into this running group right now. Thank you!!!
