i've only watched the first 5 min, but 10/10 would recomend to any upcoming zss player im also a new zss player so its cool to see broken down approaches and combos explained yet simplified edit: after watching the rest, i feel like my time was well spent here!
Easily the best, if not the only great ZSS tutorial on youtube. I wish I had this when I picked up the character a year and a half ago, but even after all that time I still learned things from this. Props, and thank you!
Thank you for the video. I've been looking for an in-depth guide to improving my zss game, but most of the videos i've seen are either too abstract or don't have visual examples. Your video highlighted all the basic mistakes i've been making, so now i know exactly what i need to take to the training room.
im a zss main and this is a great video!! i think my approaches were bad so this really cleared things up. i also really appreciate the use of slow-mo to demonstrate techniques.
dude this style of tutorial is so perfect!!! I love this!, no need for all of the bull shit long talk crap. just strait to the point and great examples! thank you.
Don't get discouraged amigo, Zss is a wonderful character but takes quite a bit of practice to get the hang of. Trust me i've been there where i would easily 2stock fg scrubs with Link then get bodied with Zss. Don't give up if you like her, because she is do satisfying to play with. :)
Fair isn't a good approach option because it is unsafe on shield, has fairly low combo potential and connecting the hit 1 only doesn't do you any good. Don't get me wrong, catching short hops with F-airs is good, but it's not an approach, more like a read or a reaction
LoulouXz Smash Now I'm not saying use it as your primary approach. But what if you want more range on the front of their shield than n-air without turning and giving b-air away? I also want to say you can follow the single hit if landed in early neutral with n-air then grab, or if they powershield expecting n-air the 2nd hit will land which early on I believe is untechable usually. Also not a good combo tool? Nairo killed Komo (I believe, some Japanese tourney earlier this year) at like 55% on Smashville with it. Nairo carried him after a grab with 4 f-airs to the right blast zone like a Melee Puff b-air.
LoulouXz Smash Nair's still king, but I find fair to be able to add more unpredictability in both neutral and combos. 1 early falcon combo: dthrow, fair, up air, ff to uptilt or up smash depending on where they end up and dodge or not.
I'm an Ike main, but I recognize the need for a high tier character I really like, so I've been trying to develop my ZSS as a secondary/dual main. This will really help. Thanks!
This guide is exactly what I needed! I've decided to make ZSS my main along with Mewtwo (dropping Fox, for better or worse...) and I think this is just what I need to elevate my game
Awesome vid man! It really helped me to get more consistent and fast on many combos and kill setups, especially the outta shield options helped me a lot online. Thanks bud :)
Hey, that was actually the best ZSS guide I've watched although you didn't use your voice. Good word mate! I subbed to make sure that I won't miss any future videos :D
Moku thanks so much! I just freaking love putting good music man. And english is my 2nd language. And i have a crappy microphone (watch my edgeguarding fundamentals guide, not as good imo). Do u typically like voiced guides better?
@@LxZLink LXz - Smash Bros. Personally I am more the fan of voiced guides, but your guide was just too good to criticize something like that xD Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe guides like yours are better. It's easier to concentrate on what you are saying if you do it via text.
Beautiful guide for a beautiful character. I'm gonna practice all the stuff you went through in your guide and undoubtedly come out a better player because of it. Thank you.
I've been using this tutorial as reference for when I practice my timing and spacing in the lab. Thanks for making this. ZSS is one of my secondaries/pockets but I wish to make her a very strong surprise one. :')
Thank you so much for this guide. I'm having a lot of issues as of late and didn't know were to turn until I pass through this vid on my feed and revitalized my spirit!!
Mostly concepts like conversion, choosing the best options and reads. Combos can always be practiced but those three concepts give me the biggest issues.
Conversions can be grinded in training mode. Reads and choosing options is probably 5% natural talent/instinct, 95% practice or experience. Try out some new things, i dont know why people hate so much on for glorzy, it's a great place to learn/practice/discover new little tricks
i am a new ssb and i loved metroid series soooo i played both: samus and zss this video is excellente for new players who want to improve their gameplay , thanks
Thx for the flip kick technic. I always sourspot with before and that was so annoying to miss a kill because of it. That helps a lot dude! Ah and also. Thx for the ledge trump tech!
Thanks so much for this video! You should definitely do more on a variety of characters, because I was helpless with zero suit before watching this video. Maybe a falcon guide, or a more obscure character. It would really help the smash community for people like me who have started recently and still aren't at that better level of skill yet.
Thanks a lot for this wonderful guide! I suppose the explanation I feel was missing and which I'm sure many players will be confused over is how to properly execute a short hop fast fall neutral air. Most of all because the attack doesn't come in that order. This is how: Short hop, then neutral air then very shortly after press down to initiate a fast fall. Anything else will result in a down air.
The best way to learn that is just experiment in training mode! You;ll get the hang of it in no time! The inputs would be short hop > wait until peak of the jump > Nair > instant fastfall As i show in the vid, just carry bowser, dk or Zard across the stage until you get it right everytime. Good luck!! :)
I went from playing any characters for fun. To then trying to main Shulk and Corrin. To then switching to Zero Suit Samus because I love her style and combo. But sadly I wasn't that good but still trained. To now playing as Marth, Lucina, and Cloud. But im still trying with zss and have her as a last option. So ima keep watching this video and try my best, to hopefully actually main her.
Zss is one of my main ones. I usually Stun then Go in with a Plasma Whip then if an enemy is over the pit (as I call it) or has enough damage I hit em with a greatly timed Down Special (the air-kick thing (Idk names))
Hey I know this guide was from a while ago but I was looking for some help. What should I do against players who repeatedly nair against my shield and then jab or roll away. Shield grab always seems to whiff and aerial just seem to trade or get beaten out. Thanks if you take the time to read this
I’m gonna assume you’re the ZSS player? Drop shield>jab is MUCH quicker than shieldgrab and should be your go to quick and safe OoS punish. However, as i explained in the vid, some Nairs allow the offender ro remain in frame advantage. If you respond offensively you will most likely lose. So, all in all, punish with jab or Up B if the frame gap allows it. Otherwise, choose the appropriate defensive countermeasure such as roll away, jump airdodge, spotdodge, or simply hold shield. Hope this helps:)
LoulouXz Smash thanks for the quick reply. I think I just panic when the opponent plays aggressively and I just stay in shield and wait. Awesome guide btw
If you're only -4 you should be able to beat most grabs oos with Jab. If the opponents grab is 5 frames or slower jab should hit first. So left-right spacing shouldn't matter if your vertical spacing/momentum is correct. Well being outside grab range gives you more options but you should be safe against grab oos regardless.
Indeed, boost kick is mostly DI dependent. Both triforze and esam have great videos covering how to avoid it. Basically you need to guess if ZSS is going to DI in or away, and DI the opposite, accordingly.
I hust haven't seen any evidence that SDi does NOT influence boostkick, so i included it, just in case, because it applies to any multihit move. I aplogize if you found it misleading. :)
Wow dude, thank you so much for making this! This whole time I have just been practicing my combos and match ups. Your video helped me realize areas where I can improve; a solid neutral and especially the baits, mix-ups and cross-ups mental game on approach. Until now I have always hit shield with poor spacing and got punished on nairs and bairs. I always get too short hop happy and not enough mix-ups, definitely not enough cross-ups. Everything you went over was exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks for going over spacing on shield and out of shield data in detail with the diagrams. You did a magnificent job making this guide, showing exactly what needed to be seen and nothing less. Quick question, do you think tomahawks are safe when the opponent can drop shield with spot dodge? Like how safe is it? Again great job, you've already made me a better player.
Man do you offer coaching?? She's the character that I wish to see grow and evolve and I would love some you or take 5 or marss or Jairo coaching since your ZSS guide is so good!!
When setting controls, you have the option to toggle A+B smash, which means it will forward smash if you press A&B simultaneously. Try it for yourself, the timing is a lot easier when doing turnaround Fsmash with the A+B method in comparison with the traditional one. (At least in my opinion)
I don't even main ZSS (Yoshi main here) and I suddenly came here. Welp, gives me an easier time to deal with her. (though ZSS is more of an even matchup for Yoshi)
Hey i just started smash and i have problems to move like sometimes im running instead of just turning is this normal on my gc controller is fuckd up? :)
davis simpson I'm always available to help my subscribers. But i'm kinda busy right now, between my job, school, exams, other videos, and especially... BREATH OF THE WILD :D But i guess i can get to it, if your gameplay has potential for informative content
Great video, but you didn't mention that she can frame cancel her nair if she hits the opponent right before landing. You actually accidentally did this when demonstrating her nair to up tilt combo at 3:57.
Hey LoulouXz Smash. I'm wondering if you take any questions. If so, if you're using default controls for ZSS, would it be wise to use the c-stick for aerials (because it's set to smash)?
I'm gonna take a guess and say that you play with tap jump on? The best way to do a falling Uair is flicking your control stick downwards, and flicking your c stick upwards at the same time. For escalating uairs, simply jump and Uair at the top of the jump, then repeat :) using the cstick also helps for this one too!
No I don't! ive never really modified my controls at all, would tap jump help? Honestly I tried to stay away from using the c-stick, but that might help! Thanks for the help:)!
No, tap jump will make you input accidental jumps all the time, unless you're used to it. If you've never played brawl/melee it might take a while to get used to. I play without!
Love this and all of your videos. I've watched this one especially a number of times. I'm curious about a few things though. How do you safely approach with up air? Especially considering it has the least frame advantage on shield out of her other aerials. Is it exclusively useful for mix-ups? Also, I see that a lot of the moves that true combo out of n-air (at least at low percent) require you to be pretty close to your opponent. Should one be fairly confident that their opponent won't shield their approach if going for such a combo (i.e., n-air > d-tilt, f-tilt, u-tilt or n-air > jabs)? Thanks for everything!
Hello! Thanks for your comment! Approaching with uair isn't optimal because it's much harder to space it out against shield grab. It comes out really fast and is a decent combo starter too, so it's still an option to keep in mind. I wouldn't particularly TRY to approach with Uair. Rather, i'd keep the option in mind if you end up landing right in front/on top of someone's shield. if timed properly, you should be able to safely jab 1, or retreat, or read whatever comes next! When it comes to nair combos, the ones i showed indeed connect from quite close. Ftilt however has amazing range and should always follow-up at 0. Starting around 10-15, grab starts connecting and that should be your go to option. You could also Nair-Run+Usmash. Nairo loves to go for that as it deals decent damage and puts the opponent in an ideal position for juggling. hope this helps :)
Agreed, it can be a decent mixup, but I don't see Nairo or Marss ever use it in neutral. Zss's neutral tends to make people shield, due to her slow grab and aerial-heavy approaches. And dash attacking a shield will result in brutal punishing
She has a good dash attack and can be useful in a variety of situations, but dashing on an approach when your opponent is on the ground, which is what he was talking about in the video, is very predictable and punishable.
Ledge trumps got nerfed a bit (can't do it with side B anymore), down throw combos are no longer a thing, down smash combos got nerfed a bit, and forward air is now 1000% better. There's definitely concepts that carry over :)
@@LxZLink happy New year bro 😀 I heard that fair combos into fjk at like 80% I always hear people talk about how good she was in sm4sh, and how much she got nerfed in ultimate. I still think she’s viable though. I struggle hitting dtilt bair true , unless that percent window is really small, and I just don’t know that. Also, your video helped me learn how to hit ff nair👍 I always jumped, ff, then nair, and I could never hit what I needed to, until I figured out you jump, then nair, then ff. I was so surprised. My movement sucks though. I need to practice. Thanks for answering my message man!! God bless you bro ❤️

The best way to do a falling Uair is flicking your control stick downwards, and flicking your c stick upwards at the same time.
For escalating uairs, simply jump and Uair at the top of the jump, then repeat :) using the cstick also helps for this one too!

Gotcha. Somehow as often as I'm fishing for grabs, I never think to grab after nair :/ . Anyhow, thank you so much! Keep up the hard work!
Plz upload more this is amazing
Can you please make a video on how to perfect shield I do not know how 😭
Kind of an old video but how much of this video can be reliable to ZSS in smash ultimate?
Quite a few actually! The combos changed a bit, but i have an ultimate combo video to keep you up to date:))
@@LxZLink If you could make an ultimate version of this video I would love to watch it! Thanks again for this quality content!
I was trying to get gud but was too distracted by the Sonic themes!
can't blame you. :)
At first, I didn't know what you meant by Z-Air
Friend Heard I'm Picking Up Zss
Claims To Have Matchup Mastered
or so he thought....
Dude you should do ultimate videos, this was super helpful for improving my game
Very helpful!
I really need this.
Actually, Dash attack isnt bad but it shouldnt be over used. Its a good mixup in neutral.
7:38 wow
great video
thankss:)
hey, I was that one u played on for glory when I played Rob how are ya
Hey man:) thanks for swinging by! You have a good rob! Sadly there was quite a bit of lag :(
Thank you, also Im trying to pocket him hopefully and I really liked your Link and yeah i could feel that lag to
Btw, i'm releasing a fail vid today in which you destroyed me haha😁
LoulouXz Smash lol hopefully we can play again some time
ZSS is pretty complex :P definitely takes a certain style to learn her.
Damn my zero suit is ass I need to put some work in
I play ultimate zss and I know this is smash 4, but how much of this is actually outdated?
Ledge trumps got nerfed a bit (can't do it with side B anymore), down throw combos are no longer a thing, down smash combos got nerfed a bit, and forward air is now 1000% better. There's definitely concepts that carry over :)
@@LxZLink happy New year bro 😀 I heard that fair combos into fjk at like 80%
I always hear people talk about how good she was in sm4sh, and how much she got nerfed in ultimate.
Esta bien el video pero hay combos que igual son riesgosos. el nair + upsmash te falto xd. Ypienso que es el mejor en bajos porcentajes
I wish I found this video earlier !
Oh hi Ridley is that you? Looks like you put on quite a bit of weight...
next, tips sonic pls?
I am bad at short hopping.
dude, I just played against you in smash :B
I play Ganondorf. Make a complex Ganondorf's combo guide :)
Check out "Matthew Howell", BY FAR the best ganon channel on youtube, he is so underrated. :)
Oh... I was joking about how Ganondorf isn't very much about comboing (although he can combo indeed). Yet, thanks for the suggestion!
THANK YOU
