I love how thorough and comprehensive Yedoye’s research is. Combining this with Curt’s degeneracy, this channel really covers everything.
As an Asian American I'll admit i was curious where you were going with this, the title deff. caught my attention. But i appreciate the level of detail, your focus to the timeline and how the evolution of marketing anime in the US as evolved. I was lucky enough to meet Raekwon the chef at NPR and i got to briefly tell him how much I appreciated how the included Asian pop culture into the hip hop community (as well as science, physics, and even comic books) and they simply replied that's what they were into. I think that's conclusive to what you're saying that people across the world could identify with these characters and the narrative that they journey. I'm eager to see stories in the future that simply include multiracial characters and especially biracial characters because in the future that'll become more prevalent. Either way great job on this video, the research was far more in depth than other channels about this subject. I don't normally comment on youtube but i'm curious to talk about this, bec. i am onc again an Asian American and an animator and a music producer/mixing engineer. So this is my whole world that you've very concisely put together. Also it was too long a video, the jokes helped.

Boondocks was foundational to my young understanding of racial justice. It holds up quite well.
They live down the street from each other the boondocks and samurai champloo at least in my mind
The Boondocks is genuinely one of the greatest American animated series of all time (and Samurai Champloo is definitely a high quality anime, as well).

Anime is for everyone, however it was made specifically for Japanese children and teens. There are a weird amount of people getting mad at Japan for the lack of representation of Non-Japanese people and I don't really understand why.

I discovered the channel a few days ago and had several videos on the watch later list for a while but decided to start at the beginning since the title was interesting as hell, and I'm glad I made that choice. The intersection between anime and black culture is FASCINATING, and I bet one could turn this into a full-on academic paper with enough research!

I've always known this was a thing, and even saw a documentary a few years ago about how some black people have moved to Japan, but this was cool seeing a more run through on the history of the connection. Also, I sometimes miss Toonami. As a kid, me and my friends used to look forward to getting home from school just watch it.

Sure is for everyone! I like how he showed why I love the music I listen, and what is the connection, but not that it’s specifically made for black people. Just shows that he needs to broaden his list of anime series to watch. I think the main title of the video (in regards to content) is the "Hip Hop x Anime" part, so you get both the more clickbait-y title and the informative title! best of both worlds)

I'm kinda glad he is bringing up anime being on weird channels and stuff. I used to watch anime in the 90s on local tv like channel 3.
While i wonder how much of this is just people taking what is popular and taking advantage of artists who openly admit their love of anime to reach a wider western audience I have thought a lot about how perfectly Asian and Black goes so well together. Music, movies, and yes anime just seem to meld so well so it was a great video to make me think more on it (especially as a Black person in Japan) Thanks a lot!
