See and here's why Truck-Kun wasn't the major player: Because he's over here in shoujo/female-centric comics committing mass murder. I've read a disgusting amount of girl-centric isekai comics, and those haven't gotten made into much anime honestly. I can go through my records and come back with numbers on the ones I've read at least and you can see where Truck-Kun is causing carnage.
Whenever I think of truck-kun I don't even think of isekai, I think of Zombieland Saga😅 (I don't think that counts as an isekai? They're technically only brought back in the future, not in an other world but idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Yeah, I didn't know this until I mentioned the weird transition in "8th Son Are You Kidding Me", but it's a sort of trope in Japan that falling asleep and dying is a common result of overwork at a "black company" where they abuse their their employees and force them to work way too many hours. It's almost certainly the "cause of isekai" for "Death March to a Parallel World Rhapsody" as well, even though the main character doesn't assume that's what happened.
I could never pick out if Yuyu was an Isekai because so many early ones didn't have their characters die when they were transported.. They were usually missing or time was very different. I think more modern isekai use death and rebirth than most traditional.

My favourite anime of 2021 was missed "The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent" which was a double summoning. "I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level" also from this year, died from overworking.
Not when I’m in the room, they ain’t. I love those type of anime. It’s just a fun time all around when people from a different world react to our food. It’s like if Midnight Diner was an Isekai. -Adrian
Sometimes I feel like being a millennial or gen z person is just the experiencing of being intermittently isekai’d at a communal level: “That time we got 2020’d by the planet” (#worstanime2020)
I'd like to add War on Geminar, the spinoff of Tenchi Muyo, where his half brother Kenshi gets summoned to a fantasy world with mecha. Of course it's a Tenchi show, so it's a harem anime too.
I'm pretty sure "How Not to Summon a Demon Lord" was a summoning and not via video game. Also, you failed to mention one of my favorite reverse-Isekai anime, "Re: Creators" (which is think used tech?).
Yeah, the world is based on a game that MC plays, but he is summoned there by the two main girls… from inside the game…? Confusing now that i try to explain it, but definitely summoned 😅
In most old myths there's literally a door or a cave that leads into another world or the afterlife, so I guess that has been an Isekai formula for a long time.
"She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wiseman" hasn't come out yet. You mentioned Full Dive from last season but not The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent (magic) and I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level (death).
Okay, go really old-school isekai. In Mark Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court", the protagonist woke up in ancient Britain after being hit over the head.
19:56, The Rising of the Shield Hero, you should've put down tech or videogames toor since the other 3 heroes were summoned through like games and online MMORPGs and stuff.
I couldn't get into that show the first time. I think maybe I tried again when I got my hands on the dub, or something like that. Anyway, second time I really really enjoyed it.
Let me tell you about an OVA 1985 called "Fantastic Adventure of Yohko: Leda". It's about a girl who gets summoned to another world via a cassette player. But most importantly her sidekick is a talking dog who can fly.
One day, someone is going to be reincarnated as a restaurant, but I think that someone should be reincarnated as a monster truck, I would die to see that show
You know it’s going to be a good video when Curt starts talking about death I never thought that I would ever put that sentence together I need to rethink my life choices for the first time ever
Started listening to y'all's podcast recently and noticed you haven't uploaded in a bit. Is it coming back at any point? Y'all have been helping me get through my work days.
yeah, they die on Earth, get resurrected on Earth by a giant black ball, and they fight off aliens on Earth so no, Gantz is not an isekai also, Bleach isn't even an isekai cause 1) Ichigo didn't die and get reincarnated in any form whatsoever 2) he only visits other worlds through portals whenever the plot requires it, so he spends most of his time on Earth
There is a show I found called Show By Rock. It was technically an Isekai. It’s about a shy girl who gets transported to a music powered world where everyone has animal ears and tails. She got while playing a music the bad guy dragged her there. So it is either tech or video game. It was cute I liked it.
I don't normally care too much about video mistakes, but I gotta speak up about 'How Not to Summon a Demon Lord.' Guys and gals, it's right there in the name. Yeah, he got sucked into his videogame, but it was *By Characters In That Game World Summoning Him!* If anything, give both columns a point please. Love the videos, keep up the great work!
I don’t know if you’d count it as isekai, but there was an anime adaptation of a couple of the Oz books. I dunno what you’d classify a tornado as when Dorothy did survive it. Mystery I guess? Also while the isekai method in Dog Days was magical, it would better fit in the Summoning sub-category as the protagonist was singled out as the one the doggy princess wanted as her hero. Because while scrying to find one she saw him trying to fight back tears when he narrowly missed first place in a Ninja Warrior competition and thought something along the lines of “OMG so cute must hug”. Yes, I’ve watched Dog Days. DON’T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT!
I feel like Kyo Kara Maoh fits more into the magic/summoning category because it's basically if he falls into any amount of water he'll be transported to the other world. A toilet, a bathtub, a literal puddle...
When you think about it it kinda makes sense that not many are by truck-kun. That one clip people associate truck-Kun doesn’t even come from an isekai. It’s from zombie land saga
Something I didn't think about until just now... In the TV version of El Hazard, they get isekai'd by Makoto's malfunctioning science project but in the OVA, it's an ancient magical artifact that was dug up from beneath the school. So I say tick off one more for the magic section.
I’m actually watching kakuriyo rn because this introduced me to it :) if anyone likes it I have a very similar anime, Adorable Food Goddess it’s a Chinese anime but it’s very similar except the yokai aspect… it’s about a girl who died from food poisoning and another girl who killed herself, she inhabits the girl who kills herself and was being sold of to be married. She tries to escape but slowly starts to like it there and becomes a chef alongside the wife of the master she was sold off to.
1) Monster rancher. It was in the freaking theme song: "I was transported to a far-away land..." I only watched a few episodes. Dropped it quick. 2) Did Dragon Drive get an anime? I read a volume or 2, up to the part where they *spoiler* get transported into the game... or some magical world with their dragon . (Yeah, there's a trailer i found) 3) do some seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh count? I know in GX they went to the dark dimension. Then there was the capsule monsters season. Nah. That's probably just Yu-Gi-Oh being Yu-Gi-Oh.
Not in the spirit realm. Just on an island isolated behind a barrier. The 3 Kings Arc and Chapter Black Arc are in the Demon realm. There's also a video-game Isekai during the Sensui Arc with the kid. You could also argue the earlier Maze Castle takes place in the Demon Realm and Botan frequrently goes between the Human and Spirit Realm.
Missing from the list Gantz. Type Death/Summoning/Tech. In order to get there the people die, but to keep going back they're summoned by a black sphere. Kind falls into the transient Isekai like digimon where sometimes they're isekai'd and other's they're not.
