- The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Aug. 12, 2020 | Bobby Carter -- You've never really experienced the Flatbush Zombies if you haven't been to one of their live shows. The hip-hop group's knack for tearing down festival stages is well documented and the energy transfer between members Zombie Juice, Meechy Darko and Erick Arc Elliott and their crowds is ferocious to put it lightly. So when I heard that they were recording a Tiny Desk concert from home, I was curious as to if and how that energy would manifest in a confined space.
Backed by a powerful ensemble from a house in Los Angeles, the Zombies present themselves like we've never seen or heard. Stripped down versions of "when i'm gone," fan favorite, "Palm Trees" and the brand new James Blake-produced "Afterlife" are almost completely different from the recorded versions. I'm hoping this is the start of something new for the group once the regular show resumes.

Their voices cover basically every part of the frequency spectrum. They are like bacon, egg & cheese. Low, mid and high. Perfect harmony.

Zombies have never disappointed in a live performance. If you can see them in person it’s an absolute must.
I’ve been to 7 of their shows along with maybe 5 others and they’re by far the best performers I’ve ever seen no one can compete
seen them 3 times now all in their home city and they go harder than anyone else
Without a doubt the best live performance I’ve seen was seeing them on the VIH tour. They bring so much energy to their shows

Rappers should develop this culture more of doing live band versions of their songs when performing live. Not only it helps instrumentalists industry, it makes live performances worth watching too.

Juice's delivery on Palm Tree's had me SHOOK. This is amazing.
Lost my best friend earlier this year and it has made 2020 even worse than it needed to be. She introduced me to Flatbush and I had her copy of Better Off Dead in my cars CD player for like 3 years. I haven’t been able to listen to Flatbush in a while without thinking about her. Thank you. That first track really just ❤️🔥

I love how much everyone appreciates and miss Mac Miller! Mac was real and so relatable. I found about Mac after his death but dude was keeping it real. On my bad days, I listen to Mac’s tiny desk and it’s therapeutic. Mac was so relatable to a lot of people and it feels like I knew Mac personally. It is really a small world until it ain’t.
No doubt...Mac was a true MC, Singer, Performer, Muscian, Entertainer, Artist, cool dude...I think hes missed by so many fans, because he could relate to anybody listening. Fav. artist of all time...His "Tiny Desk" is a gift...and Ive probably listened to it 100plus times.

Sarina: I moved to North America in early 20s. So picked up his music pretty late. Big fan of rhythm and poetry. Mac also inspired me to write. I was amazed how beautifully he was able to talk about his anxiety and depression in his songs.

Its amazing to see the zombies loving life, enhancing their art, and spreading good messages out here. This performance was so good that I'm honestly afraid to go hear the original versions of these cuts. Hard to live up to your "first date". Tiny desk always brings the feels, and I have definitely cried for many of them but this one had me basically tears streaming down my face from start to finish. The brotherhood and musicianship is magical. This was probably my fave tiny desk I've seen yet.
