      The number of times I've been knocked out by some old guy chasing a draw with terrible odds is unbelievable, and seriously frustrating.
      Recently i was in a tournament, in the early stages and i have AK of spades. I flop A K 10, one club, a heart and a diamond. I raised pre flop and he was the only caller. I bet decently after the flop, got called, the turn came with a 7 of clubs. I pushed having a good read, knowing he was on a flush draw trying to force him out, and i had him covered. He called again and flips over 5 3 of clubs. I'm thinking WTF is this guy doing in this hand and calling me twice with nothing... and of course, he catches a club on the river and cripples me in a hand he had no business being in.

    The so-called Range Advantage only has value if your opponents are smart enough to understand it...!!! Most buffoons who called a bet on the flop with AJ, will call a big bet on the turn. So, the only possible item that may get the attention of the buffoons is the ICM consideration.

  • @nateallen572
    @nateallen572 3 роки тому +1

    Hey Daniel, loved the video. I have a question: why is Katz calling from the big blind with Ajo if he intends to fold it to significant aggression when he hits an ace? I know Ajo is clearly a marginal made hand but given the stack to pot ratio for him on the turn why isn't he happy just to stack off? You somewhat answered this question in the video by saying ICM implications, but if this is such an overwhelmingly important factor why doesn't he just fold his big bind in the first place? If he's only willing to stack off when the flop comes AJ2 or J42 then shouldn't he just fold preflop?

    Some UI suggestions for your editor Daniel: Animated "range transitions" following action to action, street to street, would be amazing. ...I don't know that it's ever been done with poker training before? "Before his plausible range was this, *graphic* now it's been narrowed to this *graphic*" Also, would be helpful to display board and action history alongside action-by-action updated range charts.

    Why would he give up so many hands on the turn. You have him folding 438 combos of hands all the way down to slightly over 100. Anyone folding 75% of their range to a 3/4 turn bet is surely making a huge mistake

    I play a lot of free online poker tournaments with donkeys. I usually do much better than most players. But when i tend to bust out, its because some donkey shoved with a hand like 7,4s and sucked out on me. It's hard to play against someone who has no idea what they're doing. Which is where I think beginners luck comes from. They're not that lucky. They're just unpredictable

    It is quite usefull to think about Katz's spot. He thought Daniel's range was AA, AK, AQ or TT. I believe that made him to muck. So, Daniel has absolutely right. 😜 And it is importan to understand that Daniel wasn't bluffing all night long. So Katz was like " screw that hand, I believe you". Kind of basics but still tough strategy against heroes and gamblers. Thank U Daniel. Amazing videos

  • @FightingForceSoulless

    Essentially, big blind is forced into this hand because he's already got money in it, whereas Daniel chooses to play it, that means that he has a better range.
    However I don't quite understand the fold on the turn. Yes, your range might be better but if you got an ace with a high kicker, are you folding that on the turn with no straight/flush possibilities yet? I mean, yeah, the river is remaining, but considering the size of the stack and knowing that Daniel might be playing it loosely because he's the chip leader, I'm not folding. I'm putting you on K9 or KT, knowing that you know my range on the big blind with the short stack. You have to understand your range, opponent's range, but also the way he looks at your range.

    Weak play by Katz. If he is willing to call raise Preflop AND Flop.. then why think your AJ is not good on the turn ???
    He play like a player more focused on surviving than thriving.
    I would have called without hesitation. The bet size on the Flop by Negranu is not to "protect" hes Ace..its a tester bet. The bet is too small to indicate "I hit my Flop good". So that alone makes my Ace that much stronger.
    So in this hand Katz played it bad....

    Only top-level pros are laying that down. With only draws for a straight or flush out there, they’re going to ride that top pair into the River. There’s not a lot of forethought that if he’s betting like this on the turn he’s probably shoving on the River. And what happens if a straight or flush is now out there. You gonna take that on hoping your top pair holds up? Especially don’t play like this online on low-mid level tourneys cuz guys absolutely love top pair Aces they’re willing to get knocked out on it.

  • @robertlander5578
    @robertlander5578 4 роки тому

    If you fold the turn with AJ from the BB when the UTG open raise and the flop hits your top pair, you are playing waaaay too conservative. You have to atleast see a river in this spot, if the river is a club or it pairs the board, then maybe you can consider folding your top pair. I understand that the utg player has range advantage, but you do block an ace. Folding on the turn is just mind blowing to me, it shows how live high stakes tournaments are so much softer than online high stakes tournaments

    I like how you unintentionally took my advice about making these things shorter. Was I right or what? You keep referring to 2004 so I will too. This isn't 2004 when everybody was like, "I can use the internet to look up stuff!" Now it's like if people watch something a half of once, it's a big deal. All this media goes flying by at the speed of light. I mean, even though I watch all of these, if it wasn't for cheeseburger consumption, there would be no hope. It's just the nature of media nowadays. I must admit, even though the stuff you are saying is not over my head, I still had to watch it twice to get it all. So that's good because you're putting out a lot of pounds per square inch, which is what people want....and boobs. You've got to trust me with the boobs, you'll go from 50k views in first week to 150k in no time. Just end the episode with a water balloon fight or a trampoline segment. If you put a chick on a trampoline in the background, I assure you, no one would hear a word you say. You should do that and eat chocolate for like 30 seconds in the middle.
    Is it me or does the couch in the background look like a big angry bird staring at me?
    I also like your pyramid of poker Jesus in the background, it looks nice.
    Who's this Daniel Negreanu guy you keep talking about?
    Honestly, that is the bottom line charm of this show. The idea that the guy who's talking is the same cut throat, killer, high stakes, I just fornicated with your maternal figure, player on the table; is really this nice, easy going, friendly, I just drove your mother back from church, kind of guy. That's neat that you are the actual guy. It's cool that you are doing these.
    I think you should wear lightly tinted black "Roy Orbison" type glasses when playing.
    I'm skeptical about this hippie range shit, but you're the boss.
    Theme music to include a beat and original riffs that become notable and memorable.

    *Cary Katz should've considered the 'Johnny Chan play' to deny equity and possibly induce a semi-bluff from Daniel.*
    *Looks like he defaulted to check-calling all the way down any reasonable bet size unless he improved to Aces and Jacks.*

    Your analysis is mind blowing and don't get me wrong, I really liked the video, but I believe there are much more interesting hands for you to dive in. This one was straight chip bullying, you had more chips, you pressed, he folded. Given the fact that you are in a final table, maybe the most interesting part was the fact that you opened utg with a weak high tier combination like KQ unsuited.
    At this stage, your probably telling the table you have a much stronger hand, that combined with a higher stack and chip pressing ultimately led the opponent to fold. I believe if you had opened, let's say, on the button, Kerry would have second thoughts even with the same bet sizing.

    Hey Daniel. I watched your previous range video. Don't even know if you will look at this due to the upload date but can you just like explain the range chart maybe in another range video? Like the color and what it all means? I don't know if people just know what a range chart is but I'm fairly new and I just like watching you play, just interested.

    I was given a copy of Doyle Brunsons Super System. When I watch these videos you speak of different "eras" of Poker. I'm sure there is some great info in the book about playing fundamental poker. Just how relevant is the book as a whole when used in todays game though?

  • @EricA-xd9fn

    Great play from D-Negs, but Katz was playing scared. A-J has to be near the top of his range, and his passivity after the Flop burned him on the Turn. Especially in response to Daniel's timid Flop continuation bet, he needed to 3-bet it in order to take control. I guess "Pros" just fold, fold, fold until they are short-stacked into a desperate shove, or they get dealt The Nuts.

    relevant only to good players, which is why it's so hard to start out playing poker online, because all the principles and strategies you learn are futile against people that don't know what they're doing and in turn it gives you a presumption that you simply don't grasp the concepts and render yourself a bad poker player, just because the games you're playing are dictated by variance and not GTO. Nevertheless, this is a great video, well explained and easy to understand. Entertaining too, and being able to see the insight of the worlds best for free is a dream.

    Played a local tournament today. Loose player goes all in for 5x. I raise to 12x to isolate. Two players behind me call with JT offsuit and 96 hearts. They both ended up beating me when I folded to a sizable bet on the flop. The meta game doesn’t work with donkeys

    7:46 why does the range percentage is 10% for 14 hands while there are 169 hands possible in total (so 10% would be 16,9 ; around 17 possible hands) If any pro can enlight me that would be awesome.

      I block most trolls on Twitter. Makes for a better experience without all the constant negativity. It's just gotten old and repetitive, so I chose to block them so they don't show up in my feed. I didn't find any value in what they have to say, simple as that.

    Bet sizing should be based on board dynamics right? Shouldn’t a strong hand bet more than 1/4 pot in this spot? Doesn’t have to be much more but even a 1/3 to 40 percent pot size bet seems better for value..?

    Question. You mentioned you're not worried for check raise on Turn. (I realize check raised on flop is super easy to get away from.) But on the Turn, if he CR for another 450K, can you fold? (I guess knowing the Player, and he's never bluffing here, and you still have decent stack if you fold, you do.

    Love this play and the thought process but if you add the flop bet and the turn bet together I think you take away all of your big draw hands as I don't think you would play them the same way. So he can put your range too AK maybe AQ and other set type hands so can attack with blockers too that like an ace witch he had I think a more advanced player at the table would of played back in that spot.

    There is some audible distortion of your voice, a harshness on your louder words. You have a good microphone. Does it have adjustable "gain" or adjustable "sensitivity"? If so, try setting lower gain or lower sensitivity. Another possibility is the microphone input sensitivity/gain on your computer (or whatever hardware you're recording onto). If it's a computer then it also has a microphone input gain or sensitivity control so you could try adjusting that, if necessary. Reducing that harshness in the voice would further improve an already good video. Cheers!

    Here's what I don't understand. Let's say you have 77, opponent has AK, and flop comes 223. You're well ahead, but will the worse hand call you? Is it better to check and try and induce a bet, or bet yourself and protect your equity...but they fold, and you don't win additional money?

    • @EricA-xd9fn
      @EricA-xd9fn 6 років тому +3

      Blahblahblah It's actually because your 77 is likely ahead that you bet and take control. Basically, if the Turn comes with anything between A and 10, you are feeling sick. So that's 20 possible cards that will shrivel your sphincter. Force the action early, or get owned later.
