Still Daniel: "You could have aces."

The interesting thing about playing against an "Amateur" player is the factor of unpredictability, even if you're tuned in to normal betting patterns they can still really surprise you. Sometimes even the most experienced players can get sloppy on an educated guess and end up wrong on the read and pay for it. Just another thing I love about this game.

The top players know the other top players are playing theory. It makes it more predictable because they are playing odds and averages. Non pro's and amateurs still play off a hunch or superstition.
You can't rely on them playing "right" at that level.

Dont get the call at all.
      Playing it small first.
This flop couldt hit him, and you check.
Then paying 100 k off on the river .
Maybe a 35-50 bet on the flop would have defined your hand much earlier Daniel , and saved you a crying call.
      Just a thought.

    My theory
    Pro-
Over thinking , hopes to hit his flop, but don't. I'll check to see where he's at. Still over thinking.
    Amateur-
Likes his hand and hits on his flop mid pair. (I'll check to see where I'm at)
    Pro-
Sees a ten of hearts. Wishing he could hit his flush on the river now, but for some reason, can't belive the guy has the ten. But still chance to hit the flush.
    Amateur-
Yes, I hit my set!! Still nerves of the flush coming. I'll bet to see where I'm at.
    Pro-
Dam, I missed my flush. Still over thinking
    Amateur-
Yes, he missed the flush!! I Bet!!!
    Pro-
Over thinking, over thinking, over thinking, calls, loses. Dammit!!
    Amateur-
    I'm not bluffing no more!!!

I literally started to learn holdem after printing your writings at your blog, and then reading them for a few times in the early 2000’s - which I enjoyed pretty much.
Even if it was ages ago according to the evolution of poker, what remained is your own, unique style and personality.
Did your methods improve? Very much likely! Did you manage to still be on top? Without any question.
What remained in the meantime is you as a person who shares his ideas in an unselfish, irreplaceable way.
Because of it, you still, undoubtedly have my respect.

Tbh against 88, AJ has 44% equity and in that pot you need to realize at least 56%, so it was a good fold regardless.

    • @rybiryj
      @rybiryj Рік тому +1

That 56% number seems wrong. I think with this bet and pot sizes, you need 102 / (102 + 182) = 36% equity to break even, so calling would be profitable

I'm not very good at poker, but I love learning things in these videos! Can someone explain why it's considered a "punt" to jam with A4 suited like he talks about @14:10? To me those sound like good cards if I'm only facing one other player because you could pair your ace, draw a straight, or draw a flush... but is it because the paired Ace is just too weak or something that makes this a bad move?

    • @mochiman100
      @mochiman100 Рік тому +1

I’m not the beat either so take this with a grain of salt, but he said the dude “5-bet” with an A5, which is really not that good when you consider how many other raises there are in the hand already. Your opponents that are raising probably have much stronger hands than you and could even just have an ace with a better kicker. Or just have kings, queens, etc. So 5-betting A5 is really not advisable. I’m not sure what the odds are of winning but probably not very good against those ranges.

Playing people I don't know and just regular players it really makes all these strategies not as powerful though they can still be valuable to know. You just have to play strong hands and not be so predictable and passive. I could see folding pocket Aces being a good move depending on the bet size cause no pocket pair is guaranteed to win and it limits your outs to 2 cards usually. It's all about having balance and getting lucky

I once played against this guy who just "know" how to play poker. I got AK in position, I bet 10BB preflop, he called. Flop came pretty much nothing, I 3 barrelled untill showdown, he checked-called all of them out of position. I tried to bluff him out of it, I know it was kinda bad to overplay AK when I didn't hit anything. But then he showed pocket 3, out of position. It was really surprised cause he could hero call when the lowest card on the board is a 5.
So Daniel is right, probably don't try to do to whacky stuff with an "amateur" cause you don't know what is he playing with
Again: I know I wasn't playing good with this particular hand, but you know the point I'm trying to say

i really do not understand the need to raise in that spot with aj off. 5 handed ? why not just call and see a flop ?
